Bungie has drawn up a geeked-out dossier of
Halo's M274 Ultra-Light All-Terrain Vehicle, commonly referred to as the "Mongoose." Included in the report are various battle strategies, which suggest the Mongoose will play a key role in taking control of certain maps' neutral points as players use the lightweight vehicles to race to strategically placed turrets and sniper positions. The M274 will also be an important asset in Capture the Flag multiplayer matches. Anyone eager for a test drive during the upcoming
Halo 3 beta?

It amazes me how much people obsess over any little tidbit of Halo info. How long are those trailers people are downloading, like 10 minutes?
VampireHunter Z @ Jan 11th 2007 3:17PM
The ATV doesn't seem to have a weapon so I guess it's only good for running away or running people over.
vadermaggot @ Jan 11th 2007 3:26PM
Woot!! I love running people over, Buy yeah it's just a recon vehicle, no weapons just drivin' round and splatterin fools.
Kane Koite @ Jan 11th 2007 3:29PM
It's not so suprising that people want to know all about Halo 3 given that Halo 2 was the most played game over XBL for a straight 24 months. What else are you going to do while waiting for Duke Nukem and the Goldeneye maps to be finished? ;)

Sarge: May I introduce to you our new light reconnaissance vehicle! It has four-inch armour plating, mag bumper suspension, a mounted machine gunner position, and total seating for three. Gentlemen, this is the M12LRV! I like to call it the Warthog.
Simmons: Why Warthog, sir?
Sarge: Because "M12LRV' is too hard to say in conversation, son.
Grif: No, but... why Warthog? I mean, it doesn't really look like a pig.
Sarge: Say that again?
Grif: I think it looks more like a puma.
Sarge: What in sam hell is a puma?
Simmons: You mean like the shoe company?
Grif: No, like a puma. It's a big cat. Like a lion.
Sarge: You're makin' that up.
Grif: I'm telling you, it's a real animal!
Sarge: Simmons, I want you to poison Grif's next meal.
Simmons: Yes, sir!
Sarge: Look, see these two tailhooks? They look like tusks. And what kind of animal has tusks?
Grif: A walrus.
Sarge: Didn't I just tell you to stop makin' up animals?

Grumpy much? Lighten up man, we Halo fans are just excited.

I wasn't enthused about the Mongoose at all... until I saw that screen with the flag-carrier riding the back. And now I realize what a valuable asset it will be for CTF games :)
At least it'll be easier than trying to ride on top of a Ghost with the flag...
K11 @ Jan 12th 2007 12:15AM
I found it is hilarious that you could even run over people with this so called mongoose. A Spartan weighted at least half a ton. Hitting a chunk of metal 5 times heavier than your bike will likely send you flying.
L337 Lemming @ Jan 11th 2007 6:21PM
the mongooses cancellation from halo 2 made me upset, but now its back and i couldnt be happier about it. im looking forward to driving it way more than a man should be excited about riding something thats not real! im salavating real good here :)
Sammy @ Jan 11th 2007 6:33PM
It's the perfect fix for how clunky the warthog was for CTF, but I hope it's not so fast and nimble that it makes it way too easy to pick up a flag carrier and get away. It should be really easy to destroy (Think assault rifle versus a 4 wheeler or a dirt bike) and if it's not it might be a problem.
On another note, I am so freaking happy that I can buy my way into the Halo 3 beta. That is, if I don't get my invite before Crackdown comes out. But if I don't get it, 60 bucks is a low price for a game that is supposed to be pretty good AND a guaranteed Beta slot. I payed that much for Zone of the Enders on the PS2 just to get the Metal Gear Solid 2 demo, and this is no different.

Please, just STFU.
WTF do people feel the need to question Halo's (or any other games') fanbase? Where the fuck do you people attain these base and wholly ethnocentric illusions of grandiliquence?
So what if Halo is overrated to you. Clearly there is a VERY large group of individuals (such as myself) that find enough merit within the series to fascinate them.
Why can't people understand and accept this? As a matter of fact, why do you even need to understand it? Anything you can't understand deserves derision? That's fucking selfish and petty. There are plenty of game series (or things in general -- such is LIFE) I can't stand, but I don't go questioning or assaulting peoples' tastes.
I'm sick to my stomach of idiots like you posting this nonsense in EVERY Halo thread. If the game doesn't do shit for you, ROLL YOUR EYES AT THE NEWS AND STAY ON YOUR COURSE. I'm tired of having to wade through all the bullshit petty arguments about Halo's undeserved accolades and adorations; the hackneyed banter seriously degenerates my enjoyment of reading these comments.
THANK YOU.

I am a halo fan but the graphics are not looking very good to me halo games always pushed the xbox 1 to the max but i fear h3 is going to come as unpolished

If my math is correct the mongoose and a spartan driver would weigh close to a full ton. Should make for quite a hit if struck by one.
K11 @ Jan 12th 2007 2:37AM
Yes quite a hit for both parties that is. THe future is indeed sweet, I want the Mongoose's suspension on my cranky old Golf. LOL. I'm just trash-talking most of the time.

I hope the PS3 eventually becomes competitive with the Xbox 360, so that in 2009 Microsoft has a REASON to release the Xbox 720, a $400 box featuring quad-core 5Ghz processor, HD-DVD/Bluray movie playback, 75GB games, HDMI, 2GB memory, 300GB harddrive, and motion controls. There is no stopping the glorious behemeth that is Microsoft!!! And the world is better off for it! Huzzah!
