Joyswag Photochop: Lost Planet, found entries - Day Five

Hats off to everyone who contributed to the Lost Planet photochop contest, in a huge way. We had over 450 total entries for this contest, and there were so many good ones that it was hard to pick just two winners each day. You guys went well above and beyond the call of duty here, and we couldn't be happier with the results. Once we get everything sorted out behind the magic curtain, we'll show you the highlights from the entires that didn't make it to the final ten.
On that note, today's first winning entry is from Michael, who drew his inspiration from the comments on the contest. It's easy for us to feel like his winning entry, with Joystiq's little truck being surrounded by angry commenters, rocked from side to side, only ten copies of something to give away, unhelpful phone calls from Otis ... *shudder* it's almost therapy time again.
Check out the second winner from today after the jump, and check back soon for the other entries. Everyone that submitted an entry in this contest deserves a prize, that's how good they all were. That is to say, those of you that didn't win actually prizes will win our gratitude, which is worth so much more than a video game, right? Seriously, we received so many entries that were top-notch. A few were a bit NSFW, but your heart was in the right place. A big thank you from Joystiq to all of you.

Today's second and final winning entry in this contest comes courtesy of Chris, and will hopefully serve as inspiration to Capcom for the unannounced sequel to Lost Planet. This cover practically writes the game itself.
He's even got a shark with a frickin' laser beam on his head, people. If that's not enough, it's also sponsored by Mountain Dew to show you how x-treme it is. X-treme to the max. Nice work.
Thanks again everyone, and stay tuned for our next contest where we'll have to really put you to work.

So he has to fend off missiles and sharks with laser beams on their head with just a slingshot? Sounds awesome to the max. Will you have a Dew-eng gauge to survive such harsh times?
jeffx @ Jan 12th 2007 12:02AM
hahahah the second one is hilarious. it just needs a dude showing off his tribal tattooz and we're all set.
Spencer @ Jan 11th 2007 11:23PM
I want to see the rest of them :(
Matt @ Jan 11th 2007 11:27PM
The first one is hilarious and very clever, great choice on that, but the second choice is ridiculous, what exactly did you guys see in this one? I really think a better choice could have been made there... anyways, congrats to all the winners, I loved seeing every bodies creative ideas, my favorite being the lost world in the maze one, that one was great.
Fernando Rocker @ Jan 11th 2007 11:26PM
This was my entries... a lot better than some of the winners...

And I would also like to see some more, maybe like some honorable mentions or something.
Cinthya @ Jan 11th 2007 11:31PM
excellent the zelda designs Fernando Rocker
they are a lot better than the guitar hero design and some other winners
Turo @ Jan 11th 2007 11:33PM
i wish i had won but o well. it wouldve been awesome if my buddy had one too with his anti-bush entry. it had a smiling bush standing there with the title "lost our minds: extreme desperation" and the flag in the background, lol.
also, itd be neat if there is a next time to allow a voting system for the winners where joystiqers get to see all the entries and the winners are chosen by the visitors each night. thatd be cool :D
Fernando Rocker @ Jan 11th 2007 11:35PM
What do you readers think about my designs????

Fernando Rocker I really like your designs, in my opinion way better than that Lost Planet 2 Xtremer Condition one.

X-TRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEME!
....TO THE MAX!!!
...CUZ' IT'S X-TREME!
Happy @ Jan 12th 2007 12:04AM
How is "look, I turned him into link and stuck "Lost Planet" in the title" better than the surfing lost planet dude with missiles and a shark with a freaking laser beam attatched to its head?
Fernando Rocker @ Jan 12th 2007 12:04AM
@Nutman: Thanks, I really wanted to make the designs with quality, not bad designs like the shark one, or the guitar one... Im glad that at least one person apreciated my work.
Fernando Rocker @ Jan 12th 2007 12:09AM
@Happy I thought this was a Photoshop design contest, not a comedy contest.
supperimpressed @ Jan 12th 2007 12:15AM
I put in a design, it was called "lost freedom" it was about the cencorship on the joystiq message boards, apparently bill gates buddy , mr. grant, got offended when I mentioned his mom. censorship even if what I said was correct.
lets recap...
rock planet...nothing to do with the idea of lost
a maze with a planet....didn't even use any of the orginal artwork, so how is that photochopping?
and one about a poem. a freakin poem, what are we listening to "the decemberists" and you call us whiners.
btw. anyone make a professional image of mr grant sucking on his mommas dick i will personally buy you a copy of lost planet myself.
toodles
Mitsuo @ Jan 12th 2007 12:29AM
ok listen to all you whiny bitches that cry "oh why did my submission not get chosen and that second one did!" I'll answer it in 6 simple words. "Sharks with lasers on their heads." Nuff said. Nicely done guys, keep up the good work.
Happy @ Jan 12th 2007 12:20AM
@Fernando
Your designs lack creativity. The Xtreme condition is just awesome.
Throwing a fit and insulting other entries when you didn't win just makes you look whiny.
vaio @ Jan 12th 2007 12:22AM
fernando rocker, you rocks! nice work
Turo @ Jan 12th 2007 12:32AM
@18 and all others that tell people not to whine:
all this was really just a result of bad instructions on what was allowed for the contest and how to go about them.
this contest seemed more like a test of funny/witty ideas that could be quite unrelated to a "lost something", rather than a test of skill with "photochopping" within a set of specific rules.
Havok @ Jan 12th 2007 12:54AM
They saw the Mountain Dew logo on the bottom right for the second one, how could they NOT give it the win? Plus, it had flying underwater torpedoes. Or it could just be the pass the entrant made at the creative sequel titles the industry seems to be making nowadays.
And Fernando, although impressive, it just lacks the true creativity necessary to win. Like "Lost Planet Princess"? That's just mashing together two names of two different titles, that's not creativity.
HappyWarmGums, your "Lost in Space" entry probably had a good chance of winning, however, entering the same ones over and over won't get you a place in the winners two.
LeE MaHi @ Jan 12th 2007 12:56AM
the zelda ones are weak. not funny, not controversial, not related to anything at all but 2 completely different games.
to me, the only winner here is the Lost Planet in the Maze. you rock
and freakin laser beams are funny. and as to instructions, since when does anyone read instructions? just make something entertaining guys. good job everybody. every night i would look forward to seeing the winners. now its over:(
RDX @ Jan 12th 2007 1:09AM
Fernado Rocker-
Why don't you use your amazing Photoshop skills to chop a picture of you with some friends? Because if you're half the douchebag you are in life as you've been here...
alexander @ Jan 12th 2007 1:11AM
the zelda ones are very well designed, but they arent very funny... the only funny thing in the zelda image is the wii60 logo.
good job, very good “phochoped” image, but not very funny
Hoover @ Jan 12th 2007 1:16AM
I would have to agree with #25. Irony is the order of the day in Photochopping contests. If you want appreciation for artistic merit, I guess you could just create something original.
Not that drawing infrared goggles on Link isn't original.
Benoit Tremblay @ Jan 12th 2007 1:35AM
Oh my god, the Lost Planet 2 Xtremer Condition had me laughing out loud by myself for at least a minute. A Shark with a laser beam? A Slingshot? Sponsored by Mountain Dew? damnit that's just brilliant.
I say, Joystiq, try to get more copies and continue the contest. This is just too damn good for it to stop.
decadeofevil @ Jan 12th 2007 1:44AM
im not to good at photoshop but heres mine please give me feedback http://img385.imageshack.us/img385/8940/houseplanetws9.jpg
amethystperspective@yahoo.com @ Jan 12th 2007 1:53AM
Those two entries read my mind. When I first read the "extreme" part of the actual title I thought X-treme. And after reading the crap comments of Day Three, I thought the same thing.
Both are of win!
When Joystiq has a DS or PS2 item up (not likely) I might enter.
Richard @ Jan 12th 2007 2:43AM
I submitted this on the third day. I thought it was a worthy enough concept, but I'm sure my lacking Photoshop skills prevented me from having any shot of getting chosen.

The Lost Puppy one had me cooing with its cuteness! Eeeee!
Also, XTREEEEEME!
Chocolate Starfish @ Jan 12th 2007 11:08AM
Rob's lost puppy one is awesome.
I think each days' winner were definately the best of the bunch. Second place occaisionally questionable (not today, it was x-treme!)
Most of the people posting cause there's was better really sucked. If you don't make me laugh, it'd better be 'shopped well enough to end up on a retail shelf. If you thought this was about quality photoshopping, you should head on over to Deviant Art and cry there. A video game blog is gonna be about showing off your nerd-cred.
Neccy @ Jan 12th 2007 2:30PM
Congrats to all winners, i liked all the photoshops and wanna see more.
Heres mine.

I'm so sick of people whining and crying about "mines better, mines better" should stop and think about what they are doing and stop blamming other people. It's not "unfair" if after the first day you still think it's about photoshopping your cleary wishing you didn't have to show creativity. Adapt people!
silent bob @ Jan 12th 2007 12:35PM
Here are all mine... i thought for sure one would be a winner :_( ah well, guess i'm out $60, btw those zelda ones aren't great, i don't understand how you are so shocked you didn't win.

Cian @ Jan 12th 2007 4:49PM
JoyStiq needs to extend the date of this thing. They also need to get their eyes checked. I'm sorry but those two aren't anything special and I really think some of the ones people have posted up were of a higher quality.
Pixelantes Anonymous @ Jan 15th 2007 4:56PM
#2, it's sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads.
Come'on, get it right!
Zegim @ Jan 12th 2007 3:42PM
The first winner of today mocks (in a very fun way) the whinners, and they still whine. Man, that's some heavy commitment to being a whinner.
And by the way, sharks with laser beams are hilarious.
