Yes, Microsoft ruined Rare.. Let's ignore the fact that Miyamoto openly insulted Donkey Kong Country... And how about the marketing of the N64 version of Conker.... yeah... and on top of all that you say MS was being too controlling, eh? Unlike how Nintendo made Rare throw the Star Fox licence into Dinosaur Planet... Which was a quality rare game.. oh wait, it wasn't.. must have been made After MS aquired them.

MS's purchase of Rare wasn't a hostle take-over, it was after nintendo already sold their shares in the company. But i looked around, Giddeon, and there is nothing anywhere that the guys said they left Rare due to MS's control... So I must assume you talked to the Stamper Bros on the phone, and they told you personally?

As for the Capcom thing.. we all know it's not true. But how come it's so evil, and MS buying their way into the industry to buy out an established eveloper with established IP..... But it's cool for Sony to buy up more of Squeenix.

It was sounding fantastic until I read the replies here. The reality of @8, jtspanky really hit home. Measure makes a good balance point however and as fob2000 put, the acquisition of Rare wasn't the smoothest. We shall see I guess.

I'm no fan of the PS3 (as you can tell from my blog), but come on. Losing DMC4 is a death-blow to the PS3? Aside from the PS3 already being a bust, completely scrapping DMC4 (and tons of other PS3, Wii, DS, and PSP games) would be a death-blow to Capcom. Unless Microsoft is going to cover all that money, Capcom would never go for it. Not unless they wanted to collapse.

Devil May Cry is hardly better than God of War. In fact, it's a head scratcher as to why it's so damn popular. The first one was way too easy to blow through, and the other two just more of the same boring hash. Leave that crapper to Sony.

In my book Capcom is hands down the best 3rd party developers of all time. Their library is very deep. I am a XBox fan because I like what MSFT is doing in the online world. But geez, this is just too big. I'm really don't know what to think of this.

There was a blog on here a couple days ago about the top 20 selling franchises of all time. Capcom had 2 games on that list RE and Street Fighter. I don't think any other 3rd party developer can boost that. And they keep making new stuff like Dead Rising and Lost Planet.

Oh well, as long as they release a good controller for Street Fighter I'm happy.

@45

First off all, let me just say I really don't believe this is true, just as I didn't believe it when the rumor appeared several weeks ago. A lovely dream, but that's probably all it is.

However, Capcom's refutal GameSpot cited ("It's a 3-year-old rumor, most likely refueled by our recent spate of 360 titles") is peculiar as it does not flat-out deny anything. Probably meaningless, but weird nonetheless.

It's actually true. The source for which this story originated has ironclad sources and for him to mention means its going to happen.

I'll be be surprised if I hear too much more about Capcom ps3 titles. Capcom will go ahead and release things like Devil May Cry 4 on the PS3, but Resident Evil 5 will be discontinued and end up being Xbox 360 only.

If so, then good, very good. Capcom's arcade business will give Microsoft an in in Japanese arcades. Arcade games (like Street Fighter 4? Hm, Maybe) and exclusive console ports will drive Microsoft so success in Japan in the way that SEGA's arcade division made them sucessful.

Very Very Good for EVERYONE.

I think people are viewing Capcom as being a much larger entity than it is. They're an important player, but they're still only like the 14th largest publisher in Japan. They just happen to have a stable of strong properties.
