The rumor windmill has been dying down, so we're going to use this little tidbit as a power source to get that thing running again (turns out our plumbing depends on the spreading of rumors). So what's the rumor? Well, it's a rumor about the rumor about the European release. See, no hard date has been set, but the big rumor points towards the third of March. Everyone has hopped onto that train, more or less taking the date as from Sony. However! News now states that the advertising campaign for the PS3 in Europe is beginning in the later part of March. This supports some "retail source" claiming the 23rd is a more viable release date. In the US, the advertisements were out before launch, but after launch they've all but disappeared (possibly due to low supply). Maybe Europe is the opposite? No advertisements until after the initial launch rush? That sounds plausible.
We're not sure why the 23rd is being pushed now as opposed to the 3rd. As far as I know, the PS3 on my shelf looks like it could launch on the 3rd. We have to think about what the extra 20 days could be used for. How about that giant, awesome update that hasn't been confirmed either (but it may as well be)? Perhaps there will be more games ready to launch at the end of the month instead of the beginning? Either way, it seems really unfair. Sony's coming out with the official word in the next week or two.
