Peek inside the World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade - Collector's Edition box

Unless you were lucky enough to have snagged an early copy off of the shelves at a Wal-Mart, then you probably haven't seen the insides of a World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade - Collector's Edition yet. If you don't want to wait until midnight tonight, then here's your chance for a sneak peek.
Unfortunately, this Collector's Edition appears to be sold out everywhere, including the Blizzard store. We're hoping to find a copy somewhere tonight, although it sounds like we'd have a better chance surviving as an icecube in the Molten Core. You can still snag a copy on Amazon ... to the tune of $200 and up. Hardly surprising, since folks are selling the original WoW collector's edition for over $500. Is an exclusive pet worth that much, we ask you?
The highly anticipated expansion for WoW will be selling in stores at the stroke of midnight tonight. In fact, they're having midnight launches for it, and Joystiq will be braving the cold and freezing our butts off to bring you some coverage.

Can't wait for mine. Ordered on Amazon in October of 06! I'm really prepared for the expansion though. Spent about $200 on various stuff such as energy drinks, snacks, vienna sausages, and alot of small food

This game seems pretty popular.

I work at Compusa in Baton Rouge and i've seen in the back that we have at least 5-10 collector editon boxes. So what i'm saying is that Compusa would be a good place to look.

can you run a chainsaw through other players?
can you stomp someones head into the fucking pavement?
can you see someones brains explode after a headshot?

^Damn straight. Switch to FFXI.
Ron @ Jan 15th 2007 4:58PM
What is this... World of Warcraft? I've never heard of such a game... is it... popular?? [/sarcasm]
Polymath @ Jan 15th 2007 5:00PM
It also includes a picture of a woman's vagina, but since most people who would by this don't know what to do with it, they just throw it away.
Dave @ Jan 15th 2007 5:08PM
I have the game installed and rdy to go!

World of Warcraft, is the greatest single example of successful consumer "exploitation" ever concieved... A continuing revenue stream from millions of players monthly that can be used to upgrade and reduce maintenance costs, on an item of software with moderate system requirements and a robust community that largely self monitors. It also spawns a legion of fans who will buy merchandise and infuse money through any and all forms of swhag available.

That's funny, I remember meeting dozens of people during the first month or so of WoW retail who made the switch from FFXI, and probably a hundred or two since then. But "FFXI is better". =P
icelandman @ Jan 15th 2007 5:23PM
Wow, My comment was cut off... I was going to say "Blizzard I love you and your business practices"
With no inherent sarcasm. :)

World of Warcraft players are insane. It occupies way too much time. And it's not fun. Anyone who says it's fun has lost sight of what fun is.
1.) Raid and Grind to get better stats/gear.
2.) Go on official forums and bitch to blizzard about how unfair the game is to your class, and how slow they are about releasing new content.
3.) Blizzard releases patch.
3.) Raid and Grind to get better stats/gear.
I'm glad I realized what an endless grind it is before I got obsessed.

Looks depressing.

Now why couldn't Everquest get a Box set like that ? (when it was popular and stole my life)
Tom Strong @ Jan 15th 2007 6:18PM
People are spending $200 and $500 for collector's editions on ebay? Jeez, you geeks, get a life!
(goes off to dream about upcoming $600 iPhone....)
Killer Instinct @ Jan 15th 2007 6:40PM
yeh this crap will end up on ebay, scalpers, cant blame them though :p
Dave @ Jan 15th 2007 8:18PM
Actually, Rob, Everquest 2 had a fantastic "Collector's Edition." Metal box, soundtrack, art book (I think?) Cloth map, free house-dragon pet in game, some other in game house decorations. Unfortunately, it sold like a rock in comparison... I gave it a whirl nearly 5 months after it hit stores and was able to find said collector's edition in an EB marked down to $30... and I think the original price-tag was $80 or something.

Out of curiosity, is the gut reaction from the gaming community about any Wow story inherently "Wow sucks"?
Here's a shocker: some of us are into both regular gaming AND Wow. Strange but true! I actually have a Wii sitting off to my side (bowling ftw), a PS3 collecting dust and nightly GoW sessions. I also play Wow. Deal with it.
Fact of the matter is, it's a pretty damn good, polished game. Most Blizzard games are. If you're going to let a few Wowheads dictate your opinion of the entire community, you're an idiot.
Jonah Falcon @ Jan 15th 2007 11:20PM
I got a press copy this morning.
Rich @ Jan 16th 2007 2:15AM
Not sure how the expansion is going to make the game any less boring. Only so much raiding, pvp and level grinding you can do before its a boring tedious chore. I am not planning on getting the expansion because after about 3-4 months, there would be nothing left to do without being bored to tears by.
Jesse @ Jan 16th 2007 12:08PM
I was at the Best Buy in Manhattan on 23rd street this morning when it opened. I saw around 10 copies of the collectors edition at the register. I was the 2nd in line so I managed to score a copy. The guy in front of me however picked up 3 copies of the collectors edition so I can only imagine how fast they went. I was surprised they even had any since they had a midnight launch event last night.
Anthony @ Jan 16th 2007 3:02PM
Just to take us away from the blizzard sucks/blizzard is great thread, here is a new question. How long do you think it will be before Blizzard announces their newest project after the release of the expansion. I mean wouldn't it be unusual if they had officialy no new games coming out?
Or maybe I'm just a dreamer.

Wow. I had no idea that the original collector's edition was selling for so much. I've had mine just sitting here on my shelf collecting dust(since I stopped playing a couple years ago). Maybe I should actually sell it... Hmm.
Joe @ Jan 22nd 2007 2:14AM
The bestbuy near where I live is said to have some coming in for the launch, so hopefully I can grab a collector's edition, if not though I'll be happy to grab the retail version too.
