S.T.A.L.K.E.R finally gets a date. Of sorts.
When a needlessly cryptic countdown appears on a website built to promote a specific title, we naturally assume that it's counting down to a release date. But without an official confirmation, we're a bit hesitant to call the clock currently running on the S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl website a release countdown. We've been scorned before, baby. We know your dirty little tricks.
Originally announced in 2001, GSC Game World's S.T.A.L.K.E.R has been the recipient of many a vaporware award throughout its illustrious career of back burning. Having consulted the Joystiq abacus, we have determined that the countdown ends on March 22nd, 2007. What will happen exactly is up in the air. It could be a release date, or possibly even a demo of the game. It could even be an announcement of an announcement! S.T.A.L.K.E.R to be retooled into a Daikatana expansion pack confirmed!

DAIKATANA EXPANSION FTW!!
Might fix that one thing where... Who am I kidding, ANYTHING would make that game better.

Well... They were saying the same thing about Half-Life 2. And 6 years later, it finally came out.
But I'm sure by now, this games engine is sorely outdated. I'll buy it if it's around $20.

Did the flash decompile thing (am I violating the DMCA?). D-day for whatever is Marh 23, 2007.

I'm no so sure about the statement about March (even though the trailer may say it). By looking at the two middle numbers "4" and "27", one could determine that that could be April 27th which would be one day after the Chernobyl disaster occurred back in 1986. Also the "066" could represent .066 which would translate to 6,600 when multiplied by the "55" would equal 363,000 which is close to the number of people that were evacuated from the Chernobyl disaster area.
That's just my take, however.

You nailed it, but like 500 times over with 500 nails.
I think the countdown is bullship. The game should be released on April 26 - the anniversary or at least before, which would make March 22 as good a day as any. And it is World Water Day.
Also on March 22, 1984 - Teachers at the McMartin preschool in Manhattan Beach, California are charged with Satanic ritual abuse of the children in the school. The charges are later dropped as completely unfounded.
Hmmmm
I love Wiki

You can tell someone didn't to go the site to see that it is actually counting down... *coughgmack..
It's a pretty prominent clock with the new catch phrase url... My money is on countdown to release.

Weird, my old comments disappeared? Anyhoo, the latest trailer at Gamespot ends with "March 2007". So there you go.
