"this is def running on the gow engine and anyway harold ramis is making a ghostbusters 3 with ben stiller in it."

1) Untrue. Zootfly has their own engine. And there's no such thing as the "God of War engine," it's the "Unreal Engine 3."

2) Rumor. Rumor. Rumor. Ramis is making nothing so far. Ramis has a script. He has no stars. He has no studio backing. Ramis MIGHT be making a Ghostbusters 3 with Ben Stiller. MIGHT.

Judging from the videos this is basically Elebits with great graphics. Sure Elebits isn't nearly as cool but at least it's a real game. Unless you hear about ZootFly buying the GhostBusters license don't expect this to ever be more than a video.

@jeff & everyone else who is adamant about GoW or HL2

I never said it was a GoW mod, I never said it wasn't a HL2 mod, I'm just saying that's what it looks like to me and breaking down the logics behind it.

The premise behind a mod is to modify the original game. Take the C&C Halogen mod. The basis was the same but the game was in a sense different. So yes, it is possible that this is a GoW mod running on a PC (because xbox 360 games are made on PC's, therefore easy to break down and modify). BUT, it is more likely that it is a HL2 mod simply because HL2 has been out longer.

To the person who asked why would epic give up their source code...easy, because they'll get royalties for a company wanting to use, say, their rodeo run, or their cover system. It's all about the money.

I'm more than a little late to the party, but ignoring the debate about whether this is a real game or a mod, I'd like to tender that, if real, this could lend itself better to a co-op or multiplayer game. Sort of like X-Men: Legends and FF: Crystal Chronicles combined where one player would handle the trap ("Don't look at the trap!" "I looked at the trap, Ray."), and the other three could cooperate on wrangling the ghoul.

The first player could clear space with the proton pack (destructible environments), the second could grab the ghost with the proton pack, and the third would trap. The fourth, if available, could help the second player, all the while making sure not to cross the streams ("Important safety tip, thanks, Egon").

I enjoy the idea of running around, destroying things with a proton pack as much as the next guy, but for the game to have great staying power, it seems to me you need a little more than "blow stuff up." A good story with the wit and humor of the original movie would go a long way to helping, but the gameplay would need to mirror the original dynamic lain out in the movies. And I think that would be better served by multiplayer or co-op.

Thoughts? Comments? Flames?

There's one thing everyone should be paying attention to, the ABC logo in the last video. The chances of an actual network appearing in a video game are pretty slim simply because there's no reason for it. They can just make one up.

Everyone should read hoop's comment. If they do make this game, and it doesn't have 4-player co-op, I will be somewhat disappointed.

I'd guess 360/PS3 would be the viable platform. Especially if they implement this co-op feature (and as far as I know, the 360 is the only one to do it successfully).

I'm going into wait-and-see with this game. Could definitely turn out to be a great game if they exercise some creative ideas.

Looks like a GTA mod. Hope it comes on Wii, wiimote as proton cannon and nunchuck to throw the trap. but judgeing by the graphics and physics it looks unlikely.

Awesome. Definitely the coolest set of videos I've seen today. A Ghostbusters game like this would be just teriffic. Now would what do the game the best justice, Wii, 360, or PS3? Personally, for above-RE4 graphics and the ability to use the Wii Remote to aim the gun and Nunchuck to toss the Ghost Trapper, I'd go for Wii.

Whoever said this isn't a Gears of War mod is absolutely correct. But the same person said it's likely a poorly-produced Half-Life 2 mod. I strongly, strongly disagree.

If it was a poorly produced mod, I don't think there would be any noises at all at this point, I don't think they would have modified the default Source engine vehicle physics, and I don't think they would have coded explosions into the building physics. That would take far too long.

Secondly, if you have ever actually seen anything from Zootfly, you would know this actually looks a lot like their work. I take it no one here remembers the FPS game entitled "Hollow" that they were developing? It was being made around the same time as Half-Life 2 and looked extremely framiliar. I think this is where that engine went.

Why exactly would the person be lying about working for Zootfly? I don't mean to sound rude, but he certainly could have picked a more elaborate studio to work at if it was going to be a hoax.

The world needs a Ghostbuster game. I need a great Ghostbuster game to make my life complete. Whether it's a GOW mod or a HL2 mod (duh, it's a Half Life 2 mod! PC gamers now this by reticule alone.) But yea, Lego Ghostbusters... I would be down.

Were there people shooting at the Ghostbusters, and they were using proton packs to kill them?

If that's the case, that lends credence to Akroyd's "Manhellton" script, since all they're shooting are dead souls in Hell, which in that script is a mirror image of Manhattan.

One of the first things I thought of when the Wii remote was revealed was a game based on Ghostbusters. I don't know how or whom needs to be involved, but this game NEEDS to be made. As others have already mentioned the proton pack with the wiimote and trap activated by nunchuck would be perfect and would be especially amazing in a multiplayer setup (dare I say online even). This is a game I would wait for and would want to be done justice so hopefully if it's not in development that this video might strike enough interested to get things rolling. As for all of you graphics whores and 360/PS3 fanbots... ALMOST CGI GRAPHICS DO NOT MAKE BETTER GAMES!!! I've played some of the most graphically stunning games and the fancy paint job did not make it more fun... slightly more immersive... maybe, but the Wii can handle a lot more than the XBOX could and Ghostbusters would look fantastic at Halo 2 or better graphics levels. The controls would make or break this game and motion controls would be a heck of a lot more immersive and more importantly FUN, than slightly prettier scenery.

The mostly won't recognize a Ghostbusters game. Walk up to anyone who was born after 86 and ask them who the Ghostbusters were and they'll look at you like you just fell out of a flying saucer. It isn't exactly wise policy to make a game out of a media lisence that hasn't had anything good come out of it since 1989. The last time anything Ghostbusters related showed up was The Extreme Ghostbusters, and that was utter garbage. More people are likely to remember the bad politically correct cartoon than the 1984 classic.

They'd be just as well off making a game about the 1975 Ghostbusters about a couple of guys who hunts ghosts with a gorilla.

Now, onto the game itself. What turned me off as a Ghostbusters fan was the fact that they were actually killing ghosts. Um, killing ghosts? Makes no sense to me. I'd see a proper Ghostbusters game as part shooter part puzzle. Much of what the Ghostbusters did was tricking ghosts into the containment unit or properly positioning a nasty one so they could catch it, not walk down the street, zap one, and go on their merry way.

They're obviously not worried too much about copyright law since they used a direct sound clip and Bill Murray's image, so why not just go the whole banana?

With the unecessary changes made and the fact that nothing Ghostbusters related has been good for nearly 20 years, this game will be both a travesty and a commercial flop.

So it's just made for fun? Okay, then there are two options:

1. ZootFly needs to get the rights to make this an official game. It'd probably be a PS3 exclusive since Ghostbusters is owned by Sony by way of Columbia Pictures but I'd hope it would be on all systems (including the Wii, no matter what the haters say.)

2. ZootFly ditches all the Ghostbusters references and makes this into an original game that isn't another Halo/Half-Life/ZOMG clone. I could play it if it weren't a Ghostbusters game. It looks like fun as it just as long as they keep the proton packs. Proton Packs are a game in themselves--a game that belongs on the WII.

Clearest evidence of fakeness: the news footage has the ABC channel 7 logo on it. You might license Ghostbusters for a game - not a bad idea, really. Ther - but there's no way you're licensing Bill Murray's voice, ABC news, and the New York City local ABC affiliate for a cut scene with a curse word from a 20 year old movie.

Whatever it is or it isnt is pretty darn cool for ghostbuster fanboys... but they are for sure NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT making a ghostbusters 3 Paramount pwned the idea even with Dan Aykroyd at the helm, bill murray said he wouldn't do it and then after that Aykroyd is on film saying that the film is a no go for him. Unless Ramis writes/produces/ and possibly directs this movie it aint gonna happen. Now with that said, im a huge busters fan and wished it would happen, but if murray is not in it and aykroyd aint either then... it might suck horrible wang, even if stiller was in it ZOOLANDER + Ghostbuster = unicorns and rainbows. I dunno i think they should make a sweet ghostbusters game the rest pretty much were crap.

All of the discussion about the camera being 1st or 3rd person has nothing to do with the engine. Keep in mind Splinter Cell used the Unreal Engine, and GOW is the Unreal 3 engine, not the "Gears of War engine" i keep seeing mentioned. Unreal is a FPS and neither of those are. Another good example being Stubbs on the Halo engine, with Halo being 1st person and Stubbs being 3rd. The engine doesn't determine the camera view, it determines how graphics and physics are handled, and may have some features handy for particular genres, but can usually be changed. I don't know a lot as far as identifying engines when it isnt painfully obvious, but I would have to go with Half Life 2 since it has been out long enough for a mod to be made (as opposed to GoW), and as someone said earlier, you see the same vortex used in HL2. And yeah as much as this should be a real game, I don't think it is. Being on another engine doesn't mean it isnt real, but the voice being sampled directly from the movie seems non-professional, and most of all, we don't see any ghosts. When I see well modeled transparent creatures running out of brick walls and being zapped i'll start to wonder. If it is indeed a mod, some company should spot it and make it into a real game. The Ghostbusters liscense may not be huge right now, but if the game is good it will still sell. The Warriors was made in the 70's, most video game players arent old enough to remember it, but its game was well made and played by many people.

cmon guys ever heard of a tech demo? this wouldn't necessarily be the final game, they may have thrown this together to get approval for the license, or to show investors what they can do in an attempt to raise more capital

being that this project was included in a recent zootfly pamphlet i'd say it's definitely officially in the works. sure it may never see the light of day, not every game or movie that is developed does, but it looks like there is definitely a team of professionals working on this

and tech demos at this stage commonly use placeholders for voice and even graphics.. this in no way implies what the final product will be like. it'd be like looking at an artist's sketch before they start a painting and trying to critique that, "no WAY that's a picasso!" or judging a band's new album by their demos

" We are very glad to see the overwhelming response to the Ghostbusters prototype movies. What you’ve seen is indeed in-game footage of early prototypes on the Xbox 360, running on ZootFly’s proprietary engine. Due to licensing issues, further development of the Ghostbusters game hit a bump on the road, but everybody here at ZootFly is working actively on resolving the challenges with the owners of the Ghostbusters IP.

Not to lose the momentum, a part of the ZootFly team is currently working on an original game called TimeO, which is closely related to Ghostbusters. The game follows the adventures of two die-hard New Yorkers. They get trapped deep in the shadow world of a parallel New York. The city itself is a war machine threatening to wipe out our world and they have three days to stop it.

As soon as the Ghostbusters IP issue is resolved, the whole team will go back to Ghostbusters. In the meantime, please enjoy these two movies."

Honestly, how dense are some of you people? Have any of you even bothered to read the Zootfly website? It clearly states what game engine the designers are using:

"ZootFly's core effort is the continuing development of its proprietary engine, called Xubl.
Xubl' internal architecture is based on an abstract engine designed as a Maya plug-in. With such open architecture, anyone can create and add a new component such as renderer, input system, sound system, effects, image file format, visibility, codecs or any other abstract engine component.
Seamless integration with Alias Maya makes Xubl a tool that slashes production time considerably. Designing levels is extremely easy: everything can be done in Maya; from modeling, mapping and animating, to positioning of sound sources, particles, events, triggers, scripting and NPCs. Events can later be visually scripted with the innovative Visual Script feature.
Soon, Xubl will be freely downloadable for non-commercial use. In conjunction with Maya Personal Learning Edition, Xubl will be the mod community's dream come true."

It's not Gears Of War. It's not Half-Life 2. It's not the Unreal Engine. For Christ's sake, learn to investigate before you all go running your goddamn mouths.
