Capcom Rumor Round-Up: SFII on PS3, Dead Rising 2 on 360
As the prettiest girl at the gossip ball, Capcom has been making quite a few headlines recently for actions they may or may not be considering. In light of the particularly bogus rumors floating concerning Microsoft buying out Capcom, lets take a look at some of the more substantiated rumors involving your favorite Mega Man sweatshop. For your consideration, three rumors from the February issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly (#112). For those who still believe in the aforementioned rumor, you may as well tear down those tin foil barriers around your room as Capcom "looks to be making several interesting games for the PS3's (network) service." The two titles mentioned being a remake of Street Fighter II with brand new sprites and an "updated NES classic."
While thoughts of Capcom toiling away at a remake of what is an archaic -- if not completely broken -- fighter (Super Turbo or bust) are sure to have some folks boiling over, the second possibility holds much more potential. Any titles in particular that you feel are begging for a Cell powered makeover?
If you took our advice and tore down your tin foil fortress, well, you may very well be scrambling to rebuild your Reynolds Wrap empire as the final EGM rumor is a bombshell concerning the exclusivity of Dead Rising 2. While they previously speculated in their October issue that DR2 would jump ships over to the Playstation 3, their sources say that "Microsoft delivered a marvelous moneyhat to Capcom to keep Dead Rising 2 a 360 exclusive."
With the costs of game development sky rocketing this console cycle and most folks agreeing that the days of the exclusive are over, this flies directly in the face of these notions. And while Dead Rising was a huge success for Capcom, the circumstances as to how this success came to be can most certainly be debated.
Just how valid is this collection of Capcom related scuttlebutt? Our sources all seem to nod in agreement with most of what EGM has to say and they have been quite reliable as of late. How do you, the reader, feel about some of these moves? Is the possibility of a Dead Rising sequel on the Playstation 3 a deal breaker? Are you dying for 500 gigaflops worth of raw Gunsmoke power? Discuss!

I have a 360 and PS3, so Dead Rising on either is fine with me. Though I much prefer the 360 controller over the 'SUXASSES'.

Feces. Nothing but feces.

whatever happened to EGM's rumor mill being a "coin toss"?
Neither of the rumors seem that outlandish. Dead Rising did well on 360, it makes sense for its sequel to be a 360 exclusive, especially if a MS subsidy is involved.
Capcom has been whoring out SFII to everybody. Gametap has SFII, WiiVC has SFII, XBLA has SFII. I see no reason why PS3 wouldn't get SFII.
These don't seem like typical bombshell rumors that I'm accustomed to from EGM rumormill.

Rumble feedback is so much better than tilt-sensing for a game like Dead Rising.
Hopefully, Capcom takes more advantage of Live's superior online infrastructure and offers up both co-op and a versus mode of some kind. There's so many possibilities. Like for a versus mode, give one player RTS-like control of the zombies, and the other gets to be the zombie killer.

As implied in the article, I personally think Dead Rising did so well because it was the ONLY semi-decent next-gen game to come out in the summer months. Dead Rising 2 better step it up a notch now that there will be plenty of other titles to choose from.

I think part of its success was due to the semi-drought. However, a big reason that many games don't get released in the summer is that people aren't buying them as much then. Had it been released in a heavy purchasing month, it may have done equally as well. It is hard to say.
Bottom line is that the game is very fun, it did very well, and a sequel is inevitable. Personally, I think it will go multiplatform in the end. If it is a 360 exclusive then great, another thing to make me glad I made the console choice I did. If not, I can still play it and a lot of other people can enjoy it as well.

#1, #3, joystiq.com:
Where do you guys get 'Dead Rising'? All I read was an SF2 update/remake and another 'classic game'
Though personally my money's on Bionic Commando/Hitler's Ressurection.

#7, When you click on the link, the rest of the article appears, reading it is a good thing, I highly recommend it.
Dead Rising as an exclusive is not hard to believe as Microsoft looks to take a away the system sellers from Sony. Expect this to happen a few more times, with a few more titles

More Dead Rising on a console I own, please. That being the 360, of course.
Phranctoast @ Jan 16th 2007 2:10PM
Capcom would be stupid to produce exclusives on the 360 now. The 360 is doing horrible in Japan, and I really think Capcom would like to see to that audience.

Here we go again with the Japan bullcrap. First of all 360 has the largest install base. Plus the Xbox is notorious for having larger attach rates than Sony consoles. Capcom games are going to sell a lot on the 360. Every game they released so far has been pure gold. SFII was the most sold arcade game, Dead Rising obviously did well for a new franchise and Lost Planet is already doing better than Dead Rising.
Richard @ Jan 16th 2007 2:27PM
Dead Rising is a fairly westernized game, it likely wouldn't sell too well in Japan. And if Microsoft is sending money Capcom's way to keep the game exclusive to 360, then I'm sure that cash would make up for whatever profit they'd pull on Japanese PS3 version sales.

"While thoughts of Capcom toiling away at a remake of what is an archaic -- if not completely broken -- fighter (Super Turbo or bust)"
Are you serious? ST is a great game and is still played regularly in tournaments in Japan and the US :-)

...if SNES classic means Demon's Crest, then Sony just sold another PS3.
Paul Gale @ Jan 16th 2007 2:38PM
If Capcom fully remade Street Fighter II with post CPS3 graphics (CPS3 is the engine used for the SF III series), then I'd be the happiest gamer in the world. What I really want is Street Fighter IV, but a remake of SF 2 or even SF would still be cool. We'll see soon enough.

I'm buying a PS3 today, but I sure as hell don't want to use the sixaxis any more than I have to. Keep it 360.
Strider_J @ Jan 16th 2007 3:09PM
more blood, guts, guns, violence - on the 360?? don't we have enough shooters / action games on the 360 already? I think so.
Gears is great, but come on. I think MS needs to reach further and reach the essence of classic gaming. A SF 2 remake sounds kick ass, but why isn't it going to XBLA??? The SF 2 Hyper Fighting was so lame. Too laggy.
I think XBLA arcade needs more true classics, and original games. They need more, now. None of that Pop-Cap games elementary trash.
GoonieGooGoo @ Jan 16th 2007 3:29PM
This is a no-brainer right now....given that it's estimated that it's been stated that in order for a game to make a profit on PS3 it has to sell 500,000 copies....
So given that.....10.4 Million XBOX 360 base (and growing)....with a higher game attach rate (heck mine is 20+ titles in 1 year...not including XBLA vs 1 PS3 game in 2 months)....
Let's be honest....Japan is no longer the real markets that decide the console wars (just like the last generation...and arguably the one before)....North America and Europe are.
Sammy @ Jan 16th 2007 3:29PM
I'd like to see them put out a decent next-gen Gundam game before they start work on another Dead Rising. The Gundam game for the PS3 was the standard affair, or would have been if not for the framerate problems that basically killed the game. I know they just merged with Capcom, but it's time for them to put their A-team on the Gundam projects.
Having said that, I loved Dead Rising, though the ending kinda sucked, or rather, the last boss fight kinda sucked. If they could make another one with even more weapons (Including the Rocket Launcher the first game was so sorely missing) I would definatly buy it in a heartbeat.
Mr. Khan @ Jan 16th 2007 6:14PM
You are partially correct
The TurboGrafx 16, Sega Saturn, and Sega Dreamcast were all the cat's bananas in Japan, but they lost to Super NES and Genesis, PS1 and N64, and PS2 Xbox and GC respectively
However, my guess is that the only thing that held the Xbox back (good 3rd party support + better hardware) was the genre disparity due in part to a lack of major japanese support
Super NES, Genesis, PS1, N64, PS2, and GC all at least had strong support from Japanese developers
Just as shades of the GC may haunt the Wii, shades of the Xbox may haunt the 360

I think exclusives are good. Yay!
Kuuma @ Jan 17th 2007 3:34PM
Keep Dead Rising where it DAMN belongs.
