I hate to be contrarian, but these actually sound like really good ideas. The problem with both Sims 1 and Sims 2 was that the core gameplay got stale after a while - adding the expansions staved this off a bit, but at the end of the day, you really didn't have anything to shoot for. Adding scripts to the games will give them a sense of completion, which will make them more fun.

Dammit. I feel like reinstalling Sim 2 now. Thanks a lot.

Press release today.

So yes, I think they are trying to say they were just announced by EA... because they just were.
Someone at Gamestop have been naughty.
Expecting Joystiq to check their facts with your local store before running their story is a bit daft.

They have to have the biggest record for the most expansion packs for any game ever, and 2nd and 3rd are probably madden football and street fighter :p

Actually, our EA rep came buy about two weeks ago and put up DVD cases in a nice little display for us for this and another Sims expansion (The Sims: Seasons). This Life Stories one is a stand-alone game, not an expansion, and he explained that it was kinda like Sims on training wheels, where you learned how everything worked and what everything did so it would help you play the standard Sims game. Weird idea considering just about everyone has played the Sims at some point or another...
