IGN picks PS3 as best new console of 2006

I for one would have voted for the DSLite as best new game console of 2006. It totally owned the market with great hardware & stellar games... it's like when a site or magazine choses best car of the year, why don't they always chose Ferrari, Aston Martin, Porsche, Bugatti, etc.

DSLite had an unmatched impact on gaming in 2006, whereas the PS3 impact, besides being marginal, was nothing short of negative:
_price-wise(alieneting even long-due gamers)
_software-wise, hardware-wise(instrumentalising gamers for Sony to win a format war with the gaming useless BD-rom trojan)
_availablity-wise + the scalpers induced riots
_BS propaganda-wise with all the lies Sony made to their potential buyers, from the power of the console to the faked gameplay, from the the shipment numbers promised to the 2006 Spring worldwide launch(lol)
_the lack of creativity of the 2 decades-old philosophy input-gameplay to the poor & laughable Wii motion-control rip-off
_the highly non-friendly ambiental nature of the super high power consumption to the grill-sized ugly design of the device(not to speak of the 10 year-old controller design...)...

I could go on & on for quite a long time as to why PS3 is far from being the best new 2006 console!!! Again, the DSLite proved even more than the Wii, the Wii too wasn't time enough on the market to be taken in condideration, only started to prove in 2006 what it is going to do in 2007.
There's no way a device available only for a little more than a month can prove that it's better than an almost year long available unmatched gaming device, be it in sales, gameplay, fun or the unprecedented broadening of gaming audience. It's almost as if IGN is composed of highly annoying/whinny unprofessional gaming jouranlists the type of 1up Luke Smith. The choice, when giving the award to the best 2006 new console should have teken in count the achievements accomplished in 2006, not what it might be or do in the future, divination & fantasy as factors of choice result in that, IGN covering themselves in ridicule once again!!!
Sad for Sony that IGN isn't reflective at all of the market preference... hehe...

This is the REAL data, most PS3 shit is shooter, racer, and sports, and even at that it's sub par to the 360. The only title in the green list that isn't in one of these genres is Marvel UA, great.

I completely agree, this whole thread of bitching and moaning is completely irrelevant. The PS3 may have a shot of being console of the year for 2007, but 2006 was the year of the 360 and DS.

Well, my BestBuy has 47 unsold PS3s siting in cages (I counted!), with nary a 360 box in sight. All the 360 piles in the store from last month are GONE!

Agreed. I own and enjoy my PS3. It has a ton of uses, including Blu-ray (I love it, others lament it's increase in price on the console.)

PS3 has a lot of good games coming out for it around March. I can't wait. It's really going to spring PS3 sales forward.

I'm also curious how many people will be playing FF12 and GoW2 on the PS3 despite them being PS2 titles. That can't *hurt* sales.

The only explanation I can think of is that IGN is such a poor excuse for a game authority, they went for shock tactics to drive people to their crummy website. No one takes this crap seriously. Especially when it comes to the failing PS3.

well, to be honest, i cant give a fair PS3 or WII opinion, because neither has been released in south africa yet. now, consider that both the PS2 and first xbox got released only a couple months after america, you have to wonder, what is going on?

nintendo and sony hiding from south africa has given them a dark name here. xbox 360 came out not long after america, so what is taking nintendo and sony so long? besides that, i agree with people dissing the potential of the PS3. how useful is potential? im not gonna pay thousands of rands for a console i cant use for a few years. might as well wait for the next ms console.

basically, xbox 360 gets my vote, simply because its here, now, and has the games to back it up. until nintendo and sony can do this, they are both useless. the idea of a console is that it works from day-one, without waiting for this or that.
