While we did indeed have some fairly sobering news previously about Sony's poor sales in America largely contributing to their shortened sales expectations for this fiscal year by analyst company Nomura Securities, we decided to follow it up with some... not-sobering news. Drunken news? Sure, why not. Crack open a cold one, or mix a hot one, or sip some wine (ladies) to this news. In Japan, Sony has shipped one million units to retailers. Since to ship to retailers, the retailers have to buy the units, it can be said the units have been sold -- not to consumers, but retailers. To Sony, those are sales (business sense doesn't always make common sense). Couple that with the recent announcement that the US has over one million units shipped, we're looking at 2 million, plus.
So, could this be added to the reasons why the PS3 can be found everywhere? Sony doubled its shipment expectations so far this year, so naturally the machine will be seen. Also of note is the fact that the 60GB model is selling a lot better than the 20GB. Resistance is their highest selling game so far, also. The Playstation Network has over 500,000 registered users, 300,000 of which already downloaded the Gran Turismo HD demo. Numbers, numbers, numbers. So, hooray! Now, how about we get a new game released to help move those systems from buyer #1 (retailers) and into the hands of buyer #2 (us!)? Games are fun.
