Dreamfall now available on Steam
The latest game to enter Steam's internet tubes is quite a gem -- at least if you find yourself yearning for a beautifully crafted story. Though Dreamfall, the follow-up to adventure darling, The Longest Journey, is somewhat devoid of traditional adventure mechanics, it succeeds admirably as an interactive piece of fiction. Much like David Cage's Indigo Prophecy, it's not particularly concerned with how you get from point A to point B, but rather intent on making you play until the early hours of the morning so you can discover what happens at points C, D and F (point E is killed in an unexpected plot development, you see.)If you haven't given it a bash yet, the $29.95 Steam version presents a solid second chance for both you and the game.

This game is worth every penny. The fighting system is kind of splotchy, but you don't really have to use it that much, leaving you to enjoy the incredible story. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

I picked up this game (the CD version) at Target for $7.98 yesterday. It was on one of the Clearance end cap displays, just in case any one is interested in looking for it.

$29.99 seems a bit much. I would spend 10-15 bucks, but not 30.

I got this as a gift about 2 weeks ago. $30 seems much. The game IS good, but is about 400 times easier that TLJ. The graphics are okay but the slowdown is worse than HL2 on max settings, when the game doesn't look THAT impressive. Overall though, if you played TLJ you MUST get this game.

Just so people know, this game has serious problems with older cards and budget cards.
I dont know if they have fixed it in this release though.

BTW, the retail version does have Starforce protection. I assume this version would not have it. This is good news, as I wanted to play this one, but not with the Starforce.

This is a cut-and-paste reply. Every time the game is mentioned, someone brings this up. Not that that's a bad thing, it's good to be aware of starforce, but it's not such an issue here.

I'm guessing that you are saying that 'cause it's on this list:

I almost didn't buy it for that reason, but then I found out that the people who maintain that list put any game on there if it has Starforce in any region worldwide. Apparently, Dreamfall's German distributer packed it with Starforce, so if you're in Germany than it might be a problem, but if you live anywhere else it's not an issue. I'm getting that information second-hand, so you might want to look into it, but I installed off of the Canadian retail CD's and then checked for Starforce and it's not there.

Ah the good old "lets put it on steam for 30 Dollars and try to rip off people that don't check out the bargain bins". Seems to happen more often on there. Only some weeks ago I saved my friend money by telling him to buy a game elsewhere for some bucks instead of on steam for a multiple of it. That's why I don't bother with digital distribution of games yet, except for something like Sam & Max, where you actually get a good deal and the chance to get the whole thing on a physical medium too once it's all done.
Regarding the game itself, Dreamfall isn't even much a game. Apart from some interactive moments, including clunky and horrible combat and stealth, I find it's horribly overhyped by some people for a story and characters which aren't great at all.
TLJ might have had tons of long and boring dialogue and an "outdated" point and click interface, but it is a much better game even to this day.

Indeed, the United States' version doesn't have Starforce.
