Is this an FFIII for ds style retooling, or just hi-rez sprites?

Very nice addition to the PSP library. This should increase software sales in Japan, easily. Final Fantasy III DS topped the charts its first week of release. Me thinks these should, too.

Hell, if Sony were smart, they'd offer this as a download in the Sony store so that even PS3 users could purchase this. Anything to help the drought of games on that console, for the moment. And, when they release numbers for last week, it won't be pretty determining the total sold PS3s VS how much Sony said they shipped.

Won't be pretty at all ... :(

It would be just Hi-Res sprites (like the GBA ones).
Square-Enix = Japan's EA.

From what I've seen from screen shots its pretty much just Final Fantasy Origins (PSOne) combined with Final Fantasy 1 & 2 Dawn of Souls (GBA). Besides the art gallery there is nothing new. Its really just a port of the GBA version with the cutscenes from the PSOne version added in. The graphics are the same as the GBA version.

I don't see this doing much for PSP sales even in Japan. This is pretty much something you would have expected to see in the PSOne Store.

I bought Dawn of Souls on GBA and you know what? These games are terrible. They were ahead of their time back when they were first released, but not this far ahead. I don't care how much makeup you cake on, the core gameplay has aged very poorly. It would be a great downloadable on the consoles, but a full retail release is pushing it, especially if they're separate releases.

Why do I feel all the negative comments on this topic will come from people that hate sony or think the PSP is dead?

I wonder if both will come on one UMD? or will the milk us for 2 full priced?

The games will be separate.
Final Fantasy Anniversary Edition
and
Final Fantasy II Anniversary Edition

They should be bundled together like Origins and Dawn of Souls. I guess they figure PSP owners will buy anything. We can only hope they just don't charge us $40 each.

Isn't Final Fantasy IV, V, and VI all seperate cartridges on GBA? Well?!

Yeah. I love how this is a Sony Evil thing, Square fucks Nintendophiles just as badly. At least with PSP, we get a graphical update. Still a rip off, but slightly less of one. Now if you'll excuse me, I'll go back to playing the $1 8-Bit Nintendo cartridges instead of the $5 bugloaded, crash happy downloads from VC.

Blasphemous for any FF from FF I - VI to be put on anything other than Nintendo

Oh dear. Separate games too.

What a terribly lacklustre thing to do. I mean FF3 was brilliant in 3D and all, really brought life to the old series. But I rarely played Dawn of Souls purely because they felt "too" old. unlike old Nintendo and Sega games that matured with age.

wait... another port for the PSP.

Sheppy:

"$5 bugloaded, crash happy downloads from VC."

what? I havent had a single crash or bug in any of my vc games, and combined ive played those almost as much as I've played twilight princess (55 hours).

Huh. While they're at it, could they maybe fix FF2's item system? With a bit of tweaking, the game might almost be playable.

"Isn't Final Fantasy IV, V, and VI all seperate cartridges on GBA? Well?!"

WELL??!?!?! Those games came out years later, are much larger and more advanced, and still hold up reasonably. That's what. And not to mention FF1-2 you can already buy on one cartridge right now.

"Yeah. I love how this is a Sony Evil thing, Square fucks Nintendophiles just as badly. At least with PSP, we get a graphical update."

Wrong because apparently it's just a port of the GBA/PSX versions.

"It would be just Hi-Res sprites (like the GBA ones)."

?...the sprites have always remained at the same resolution. Maybe you're thinking of more colors.

So many misconceptions in this comment thread.

The "enhanced port" is just the PSone version with the extra dungeons and whatnot from the GBA version. There's not "graphical update" other than the update that was performed on the games when it was released as Final Fantasy Origins for the PSone.

This is NOT going to be like the FFIII remake for the DS. And if you haven't noticed, the "enhanced ports" for the GBA, haven't done nearly as well as FFIII. Just wanted to set the record straight.

It's blasphemous to use the word 'blashpemous' in such a context. You Nintendobots are hilarious in your zealotry.

"This is NOT going to be like the FFIII remake for the DS."

Thank GOD for that.

This is great news. I've never been able to track down Dawn of Souls on GBA and being able to play the first game in the most amazing of series on the PSp gigantic screen will surely be a treat.

Square Enix are NOT the EA of Japan. What an absurd statement to make. MOST SE games are great, MOST EA games are not.

I don't care too much for RPGs. but i know that these games will definately raise hype over the psp. I only hope that more great games like this will be making their way to the psp. Go Sony!

"Blasphemous for any FF from FF I - VI to be put on anything other than Nintendo"

Even if I do believe Sony killed the series, every game game of the main series, other than III, has already been on a Sony console.

And god SE loves money. Why can't they just remake the games, instead of rehash it?

I don't see what else they can do with these two games. Graphically, what else can be done without making it 3D?

And it sounds like, content wise, there isn't very much new. Just the gallery/extras that aren't a part of the game itself.

I might buy it, I'm not sure yet.

But at this point I see nothing else that can be done to these two particular games that can justify buying them yet again.

Poor, poor pixelator. When are you going to get your exceptionally large foot out of your even bigger mouth? You say it's blasphemous to say it's blasphemous that FF games are on anything other than a Nintendo console and then go on to thank God for something completely frivolous. No blasphemy there!

If you want some nonsensical Nintendo bashing pixelator will never let you down. Apparently he's added blasphemy to his list.

If they were putting the whole lot FF 1-6 on a single UMD with some nice movies, it might be worthwhile for those who hadn't already had enough of these. For the most part, though, this is a waste of the PSP's capabilities. Why not enhanced ports of the PS1 FF titles? Since there would be no need for the data duplication across multiple CDs, these would easily fit on a UMD with high quality MPEG-4 movies and audio tracks.

FFIII on the DS is excellent. I'd really like to see them apply the engine to an entirely new and more complex FF entry that bridges between the styles of the SNES and PS1 games.

The PSP is missing some good RPGs. I just wish that Square would come up with something new instead of just releasing FFI for the fourth time. I like that game, but I already have it for NES and PS1.

I will just wait for Square to release the new FF Tactics.
