Valve has released some pricing details on their upcoming
Half-Life 2 sets, affectionately dubbed
Orange and
Black. The packages and prices are as follows:
- Black, for PC only, is $39.99 and includes only Episode Two, Team Fortress 2, and Portal.
- Orange, for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 is $59.99 and includes all of the above plus Half-Life 2 and Episode One.
With a set like
Half-Life 2: Orange being one of the few titles out there we feel merit a $60 price tag, we're eagerly anticipating the sets' release. Now if Valve would finally release them!

umm....hello??? @ Jan 17th 2007 11:49PM
crap....so the dilemma now is, do I get the PS3 version or the 360 version??????????????
BklynKid @ Jan 17th 2007 11:52PM
I own Half-Life 2 already for the PC, but what a value at $60. I'm buying it again just to play it on my 360 with all the expansions (which I haven't played yet).
Azerael @ Jan 17th 2007 11:56PM
#1, Gabe Newell (the founder of Valve) called the PS3 a "total disaster".
So I would suggest the 360 version :P
Jedijoe9 @ Jan 18th 2007 12:00AM
So when is this coming out? As the owner of a ultra portable laptop, I never got to experience the goodness that is Half Life 2. Basically, I am shitting my pants in anticipation.
umm....hello??? @ Jan 18th 2007 12:08AM
@3
yeah, plus I already have plenty of friends on XBL to play with, and the 360 has a proven online network.
itsbrandon @ Jan 18th 2007 12:29AM
So wait, is there NOT going to be a 20 dollar JUST episode 2 like there was with Episode 1? That's really f'ed up if it's true. I REALLY don't want to re-re-buy HL2 and I don't care about TF junk. I just want the single player. And I don't want to pay more than 20 bucks. What a rip.
Ritz @ Jan 18th 2007 12:36AM
itsbrandon, maybe expect to see it EP2 by itself on Steam?
Iced_Eagle @ Jan 18th 2007 12:36AM
Well I'm definitely getting the PC Black version.
I'm debating getting the Orange version for the Xbox360.
Now the question is, will it be 1,000 points per game (which means 1,000 for HL2, 1,000 for HL2:Ep1, 1,000 for HL2:Ep2, etc for a grand total of 5,000 points) or will it be 1,000 for the entire box set?
If it's 5,000 points for that set, I would probably get it :)
Man, gamer score is addicting. I can't believe I'm basing decisions off of it.
Rubang B @ Jan 18th 2007 1:03AM
Damn. I'd buy Black for my PC, but I don't want Episode 2. I'm sure it's awesome, but I don't want it collecting dust over here, as I've never played Episode One. I hope they sell Portals alone on Steam or something.
JSK @ Jan 18th 2007 1:27AM
Well I want episode 2, TF2, and portal. I wonder how much the three will cost together on steam, and if they will be cheaper then retail?
The temptation to play them right away via steam is tough, but if there was something more to sets then just hard cd copies maybe I would buy them retail.
Oki @ Jan 18th 2007 1:36AM
since sony claims that ps3 has more power im hoping valve will take use of it. since i own one and i never really finished ep1 on my pc before i sold it i hope i can with the ps3.. any luck of keyboard and mouse support?
TheDoomer @ Jan 18th 2007 6:49AM
I'm definately getting the orange set for PC. I never had a good enough computer for HL2, and it comes with HL2, Ep 1 and 2, Team Fortress 2 (one of my most favorite games ever), and Portals, which just looks awesome.
gozer @ Jan 18th 2007 7:28AM
i'll probably get both.
black for the macbook pro and orange for the 360.
i'm such a half-life whore.
chenry @ Jan 18th 2007 7:45AM
Hope they sell Portals and Ep2 on steam, 'cos I already have the rest of that stuff :P
Karttikeya @ Jan 18th 2007 8:16AM
You can get every Half-Life game and Half-Life mod known to man from Steam for $79.99, I mean EVERYTHING.

KilgoreTrout XL @ Jan 18th 2007 8:58AM
I've been looking forward to this one for a long, long time. My most anticipated title other than Halo 3.
Tom @ Jan 18th 2007 9:14AM
I was under the impression that Portal and TF2 came free with HL2: Episode 2. If they end up charging $40 for those 3 I bet a lot of fans will be pissed. Not that it matters because they'll buy it anyway... Damn you Valve!
mike @ Jan 18th 2007 9:30AM
font forget this also run smoothly on your mac (boot camp). so not pc only ;)
JJRR @ Jan 18th 2007 9:51AM
Damnit. I just bought episode 2 for PC...do you think steam will make the other 2 in that bundle available for download?
James @ Jan 18th 2007 10:19AM
So is Halflife 2: Deathmatch included or what? That's the only reason I would purchase this.
polly @ Jan 18th 2007 10:27AM
Forty bucks?! So much for cheap and frequent episodic content. What a load.
Jake @ Jan 18th 2007 10:31AM
I'm fairly pumped about this orange set. Never owned a gaming-capable PC and have heard nothing but good things about the Half-Life Series. Portal and TF:2 look fun as well.
As for the person wondering which version to get because Sony claims the PS3 has more power...You are kidding, right? None of the multiplatform games to date have looked better on PS3 and one of the leaders of Valve called the PS3 a disaster. (Probably pissed at how much development effort it took relative to the 360)
JJ @ Jan 18th 2007 10:56AM
Really i dont think it matters which console you get it on PS3 or 360, since in terms of pretty much everything it'll be a wash.
As for myself, I'll probably get orange, but for which system i'm not fully decided on. Although if i DO end up getting that 8 series geforce card... I'll get black
James @ Jan 18th 2007 11:13AM

OTAM @ Jan 18th 2007 11:15AM
TF2 is worth $60 alone for me. I've played TFC online since it's release from Dialup and then progressed to cable. It's soooooo close,I want TF2!!!
Cabcru @ Jan 18th 2007 1:07PM
"I was under the impression that Portal and TF2 came free with HL2: Episode 2."
I can't remember what I paid for Ep1 but yeah, I have to admit I was under the same impression. I guess when the Portal/TF2 buzz started kicking off, someone heard *ker-ching*
Neebs @ Jan 18th 2007 3:30PM
We thought we were getting 3 games for $20? Now $40? What a bloody good deal!
Killer Instinct @ Jan 19th 2007 6:11PM
I'd like to see TF2 by itself for $20 :p
ZaxCG2 @ Jan 19th 2007 11:04PM
WOW! Thank you Valve! Its like they're just handing us their top games on a silver platter without the hole in your wallet. This will definitely get tons of people out there hooked on Half-Life 2!
Another game to add to the "Reasons to Buy a 360" list!
Yeah- along with:
1. Gears
2. Halo3
3. Lost Planet
4. Dead Rising
First GREAT game to come out for PS3 also.
Michael @ Feb 8th 2007 11:54AM
"merit a $60 price tag" is right. This is great! I'm more than willing to play HL2 all over again (although with an exciting dread of Ravenholm).
Iced_Eagle: I know, I just want to make that gamer score higher and higher.
