What would be interesting to know, and which no one has yet said, is whether a Blu-Ray disc that does incorporate multiple copies of frequently used data to avoid extraneous seeks will actually wind up having better performance on the PS3 than a DVD9 would on the 360's 12X DVD drive.

It seems entirely possible that the use of redundant data on the disc would actually lead to a net win, both in data storage and in average access speed.

Something we'll figure out over the course of this generation, I suppose.

Check this out!

The 1X data transfer rate for Blu-ray Disc is 36Mb/s for data and 54Mb/s for movies, Dvd's Max read spead at 16x is 21.13mb/s.

To boot, the PS3 has the 2X for Blu-Ray, and also the 16X for DVDS. If this is a problem, they can just release it on DVD9 and it will run fine. And I know that Sony Doesn't want the games to be on Blu-Ray, but if this problem is consistent than they will have to have some games on DVD9.

And remember what happened at the end of "The Tortoise and the Hare"?........

I trust your genuine.

@Luminite:

The figures you mention are the top theoretical speeds of Blu-Ray. At 2x speed the maximum theoretical speed is 72Mb/s. Sounds impressive, right? It's not. If it had been 72MB/s it would have, but 72Mb/s is only 9MB/s.

For comparison, a 12x DVD (average ~8x) reaches ~15MB/s.

I'm sorry, but I have spent too much time looking into the ps3 v xbox, including online forums,
as well as system profiles. I myself dont see that much defferance in the two game systems. Other than small unimportant shet, which seems to have no relavance to gameing. Blu tooth, wifi, like I'm going to cary my console with me to the coffee shop or use it to make a phone call. Regardless, half of the featurs made avalable on these systems are never going to be used. If you're one of these that has to put music, movies, screen savers, and crap like that on your game system you dont need faster load time, you just need less rediculous crap on your system. Sony changed the the graphics processer unit from a higher quality unit, to one that was more universal, to match the dang xbox at 500mh. They have the same basic size HD, and the games use the same amount of space, and its only going to hold about 6 games max with 20 gig, and thats after the dedicated drive space of 7-9 gig is used for uploads and updates. These things should have already been fixed before it hit the shelves. If the ps3 is so great and the xbox is so great then why did both companies have to keep fixing and updating systems that have been top of the line for 5-10 years. Why do they need to sell you more, and keep you online to make money off you even if you dont have a online game to play on your
console?

Erm... i have this game for the PS3... one of my friends has it for the 360... the loading time for the PS3 are clearly better, plus the PS3 version never glitches or freezes meaning that you need to restart the system... and even the graphics are a lot crisper and nicer on the PS3 version.
