Besides the general Sony-hate, has anyone actually considered that the PS3 isn't any fun to use/play?

I'm really not enjoying mine so far. The menu system is aggravating, seting things up takes way more effort than it should, the online is a graveyard, and Resistance just isn't that spectacular.

And if the controller stops responding one more time, I'm returning the damn thing.

The PS3 is like work, the 360 is like a hobby, and the Wii seems like it would be fun...don't know because I can't find one.

I am sorry if you misinterpreted, but I never said sony deserved another victory. I am well aware of their rootkit-fiasco, and I also have bad experiences with their tech support and their products (yes, I bought a walkman because I dislike apple even more then sony...dont shoot me for it).

Mind you that nintendo had an attidute before just like this. Companies can change, they are things that SHOULD change over time. Just give them a moment to do so. If they fail, I will know that it was their own fault. But I will also see the problems it brings with it.

You also don't wish for other peoples death.

And this is from someone who never owned a playstation ...but still bought a walkman =(

Here is the funny thing about this generation:

If Sony loses then they are in alot of trouble. They are in Billions of dollars in current and future debt and if the PS3 can't get them any profit then things will look very bad for them. The only hope they have if that happens is the current strong sales of the PS2, but that can only be carried on for so long. Imagine how pathetic it would be if the PS2 manages to outsell the PS3 in 2007.

If Microsoft loses then one of three things will happen. For Microsoft they don't need to focus on getting the biggest marketshare, they need to focus on getting the Xbox brand out of the 5 billion dollar hole it is in. If they can't do it this generation then the shareholders will get bitchy enough for Gates to drop the whole division, or he will manage to keep them at bay and/or fiance the thing by himself. Remember the only reason why the Xbox ever exsisted was that the PS2 could use Linux and they were worried that it was going to cut into home computing sales. It can easily be nulled in the next 5 years if it can't turn a profit, and is why I see the whole Xbox brand as one big joke on the industry.

Nintendo on the other hand is in a win-win situation. Unlike Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo knows very well on how to make a profit even if they loss the marketshare and come into third place. So even if they come in last this generation they will still manage a profit, unlike Microsoft and maybe Sony, whos ability to make profit this generation is still unknown. In the slim SLIM chance that they lose money on the Wii, it will be nulled somewhat or compeltly by the success of the DS, along with their current 6 billion dollars in back up cash.

As it stands the PS3 has the better chance of sinking and dying a horrible death. Nobody in their sane minds would pay for a 600 dollar console, espeically the casual market that was 80% of their userbase. Nobody will pay 600 dollars for a guitar hero, okami, and sports games.

Too much focus is on how bad the PS3 is when it's everybody's beloved Wii that needs saved.

The current Nintendo system will once again be "third-partyless" just like their previous two systems. Only two styles of games will come from outside companies. Those being mini-games and ports with bad controls for that system.

@ #86
Mass Effect and BioShock (the only reasons I got a 360, it's sitting next to me here with a fine layer of dust across the top) will be on PCs as well. As for Too Human, even XBox magazine said that the game had way too many problems. EGM hated it when they discussed it post-E3 for horrible camera controls and awkward combat (a shame, since I would love to see a sci-fi, Norse-inspired God of War). Trusty Bell? Nobody gives a shit. It looks like a PS2 game, and it's just another half-assed attempt to appeal to the increasingly apathetic Japanese gamer. Blue Dragon didn't exactly light the 360 market off over there. Lost Odyssey could be cool, if the combat changes and it gets more complicated than Final Fantasy 6.
I would love to see GoW2 and Halo 4! Hell, lets make five more of each! Since the XBox is a system that was MADE FOR Halo, we know that Microsoft will be cool with holding a gun to to the heads of Bungie and everybody's favorite prefab video game bad boy CliffyB, forcing sequels to those franchises until Christ comes home.
As for Nintendo, I like them less and less every time I see their upcoming games. I for one am not a fan of pure, unrestrained whimsy. Imagination is all fine and good, but give me a serious game every once in a while. Oh, and did anybody else notice that nearly half of the Wii titles on the shelves are licensed cartoon or movie ports? Of course, they had Zelda (port) in their launch library, so obviously, they get a pass.
Ahhh, I so look forward to the day when racism, sexism, and classism have ended, and we all hate one another based on our preference in video game systems.

The launch of this system is a little different to me compared to their competition.

This Cell chip Sony's P.R. Department keeps on talking about, along with the $600 price tag tells me that the launch should have been a lot more than it actually was.

PS3 games SHOULD look a lot better than the 360s. And for the amount that the console costs, the games should have more innovation than anything Nintendo puts out. But I'm not seeing it. For the amount that this thing costs, I should see a big difference NOW.

And for all of you that state that "a true gamer wouldn't want to see the PS3 fail", get real. If any company, including Microsoft and Nintendo, released an expensive system, lied to their customers, and showed bullshit footage at E3, I would WANT to see them fail. I'll buy a PS3 when I see that it is worth buying. Other than that, I don't feel like paying more money for (as of now) an inferior product.

The cell is a joke. Please don't believe. It will do little things better than 360 years from now (Yeah when the 720 comes) Cell is pentium 4 with no H.T. running 2.3 Ghz. The 360 will do things better to like graphics wise. Xenon Pentium 4 with H.T. running 2.3 Ghz times 3... All Jokes

Firegirl (66) – That story claiming that a major porn company was going exclusivily with HD-DVD is fasle – (http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=5686). As the article states, Vivid Entertainment (the porn company in question) supports both formats.

here is a list of exclusive Playstation 3 titles scheduled to come out *THIS YEAR*:

-Afrika
-Devil May Cry 4
-Final Fantasy XIII
-Formula One
-Gretzky NHL
-Heavenly Sword
-Hot Shots Golf 5
-Killzone 3
-Lair
-Mercenaries 2: World in Flames
-Metal Gear Solid 4

-Monster Hunter 3
-Monster Kingdom
-Motor Storm
-Ninja Gaiden Sigma
-Tekken 6
-The Eye of Judgment
-Virtua Fighter 5
-WarDevil Enigma

-White Knight Story

then there is a plethora of multi-platform titles also:

F.E.A.R.
Oblivion
Half Life 2
Assassin's Creed
Stranglehold
Haze
Medal of Honor
Brothers in Arms

and so many more.

honestly, what is the problem? 360 fans are acting as if Gears of War, Oblivion, Crackdown, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Halo 3, Too Human, Fable 2, Half Life 2, Lost Planet, Dead Rising, and Ninja Gaiden 2 were all available on November 2005. it took, at least, 6 months for the 360 to get Oblivion. it got better from then on out.

the Playstation 3 has only been out for roughly 2 and half months. for the love of Pete, at least give it until March or April. jesus christ, guys. is your unadultered hatred for everything Sony blinding you to the fact that it takes time to make a quality game?

and to J Korn: you are possibly the king of the retarded people. if Sony were to leave the gaming industry, it would be a bad thing. over the past 6 years, especially, Sony has proven that they are capable of delivering quality gaming experiences, or did you forget about Ico, the Jak and Daxter series, the Sly Cooper series, the Ratchet and Clank series, God of War, Shadow of the Colossus, etc?

of course you did, because you are a retarded fanboy.

Sony brought gaming into the mainstream. games like MGS, FF, DMC, Resident Evil, wouldn't even be close to being what they are if it wasnt' for Sony blowing the doors open, and making it socially acceptable to be over the age of 10 and playing video games. i'm 27 years old, and i remember what gaming was like before the Playstation.

Sony may not be the most innovative company out there, and they don't have to be, as long as the gaming experiences they deliver are quality. do you think the mainstream audience cares about constant innovation? no, they don't. they love it when it's there, but that didn't stop games like God of War, Resident Evil 4, Devil May Cry, even Zelda from being top sellers everytime.

all true gamers really care about is a quality gaming experience, regardless of the console it's being presented on. i owned a Gamecube, PS2, and X Box last gen. i enjoyed them thoroughly. we own a 360 and a PS3 so far, though, for the time being, there isn't anything compelling us to get a Wii yet. but, unlike most of you guys, i'm giving the Wii some time to get a few games that genuinely interest me (i'm not into Mario, my playtime with Twilight Princess bored me, and Smash Bros should be a Gamecube game).

and honestly, who bases their decision of a purchase based off of some PR speak? seriously? are you guys all 12??

you buy the product that personally appeals to you. i don't care about the Cell Processor, or the 7 SPEs, or the Xenon or Hollywood GPU. i. just. don't. care. all i care about is if my 360, PS3, and even Wii, will have the games i want to play.

so far, the answer is a fat, resounding, yes.

Crackdown kicks ass (i played it at E3, and it was great). Mass Effect has me drooling at the mouth, and i'm curious to see if Fable 2 will be better than it's predecessor (which wasn't a terrible game, just overhyped). those titles have my interest on the 360.

the PS3 has Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy XIII, the obligatory sequel to God of War, whatever project Team Ico is working on is going to amazing, if i base that off of Shadow of the Colossus and Ico. i have Motorstorm, Heavenly Sword, Resistance (and underrated game if there ever was one), the Naughty Dog project has me psyched. Ratchet and Clank. can't wait to see a next gen Sly Cooper, or whatever Sucker Punch hits us with (no pun intended). for fans of the Playstation brand for the past 10 years, there's a lot to look forward to, from first, second, and third party developers.

and remember: the console hasn't even *LAUNCHED* in Europe yet. i wouldn't be surprised if it sold a million on launch day.

as many times as Nintendo has been counted out and came through, i find it ridiculous that a brand with the most ginormous user base would suddenly, over the course of two months, lose that userbase.

it must also be noted that the average gamer doesn't peruse the internet every. single. day, looking for the latest dirt on gaming. they go into a store, see a $500/$600 system, then looks and sees if there are any games that would warrant that purchase. so far, there aren't any on the Playstation 3, but come the end of February, the floodgates start to open, and some good shit is coming out.

my advice: stop taking everything a rag like joystiq spouts off; get some opinions of your own, and stop basing your buying decisions off of something an idiot PR guy said, and get the console(s) that have the games you want to play, or are going to get the games you want to play.

there are tons of 360 buyers that bought one on day one because they were looking forward to Halo 3, even though the game was two years out. get over yourselves, and give the PS3 at *LEAST* until April to settle in. sheesh.

I hated sony last gen because they killed dreamcast. But I wasn't so blind not to notice all there great exclusives thatcame down to bargain platinum prices. I still did not buy a PS2, but as a gamer i was impressed. It's just that I was busy playing shooters on Xbox and colourful stuff on the Cube. Now that I have seen 360 in HD I will also buy PS3 when some good exclusives appear (unless that never happens, which I doubt). So even though I have resented Sony's dominance in the past I really just want more top HD content.

"103. and remember: the console hasn't even *LAUNCHED* in Europe yet. i wouldn't be surprised if it sold a million on launch day."

The PS3 took about six weeks to sell a million in North America and Japan combined. You're trying to tell me it'll sell that much in Europe in one day? I know they won't have the production issues, but considering the current lack of demand for the console, that prediction is ridiculous.

what most of you are forgetting is that the ps3 was not a total failure. In fact because of the ps3 there is a large number of blueray players in homes. the bluray-hddvd war changed dramatically after the ps3 launch. not as much as sony had hoped but enough to be competitive on the movie player war. this will pay more dividends then game sales ever will. with the owner of vivid video announcing he was going to release adult films on blueray the war just got bigger and badder. To make it worse on hddvd the majority of studios are owned or partnered with Sony.

i have a few problems with that statement.

1) sony didn't really bring games mainstream. the game developers did. the only thing sony "did" was add a cd rom standard to the original playstation. that gave developers room to work. they did the rest.

2) the reason sony had those developers with the ps1 was the cd rom. the reason they had them with the ps2 was pure install base -- an 18 month lead and brand recognition.

this time around, microsoft is catering to the developers and sony isn't.

you need to understand the reasons sony has been on top for the last two generations. it wasn't because "they" delivered games. it was the game developers.

developers said more space! they gave them more disc space with the ps1.

developers said more space! they gave them more disc space with the ps2.

developers said more ram! they gave them more disc space with the ps3.
