I am surprised that although the article mentions the fact that you can download demos of xbox live arcade games, it doesn't mention demos of the full retail games that are available. Also with messaging and "presence", there are many reasons to have xbox live, even if it is the silver level free service that gives you everything except the diamond discount card and multiplayer gaming (which can still be free during contests and promotional contests).

@50

No....you are paying 50 Bucks a year for:
1)5 Channels of Private Voice Chat with different players...all possibly playing different games...which you can switch at will
2) Full Voice support in ALL games....not push to talk...not in only specific games
3) Unified Gamertag across ALL games.......no exceptions.
4) Weekly updated content from video to game demos to individual game content
5) Video Marketplace......I didn't think I'd use it....but Adult Swim and South Park and Star Trek in HD changed that
6) The ability to see or just jump into friends games and to switch games at will....easily.

"Microsoft is probably already working on the next generation releases of XBL. By the time Sony catches up they'll be behind again. They'll need to do some serious research and innovation if they want to surprass XBL now or in the future."

Like Sony doesn't know how to steal (cough innovate cough) already... I mean wow look at their controller oops, look at their awesome motion sensor technology where did that come from oops..

Personally, I am not a Sony PS3 fan. I do own a Xbox 360, basically because I love Gears of War. I am very impressed with Xbox Live! and I continue to be pleased by its performance and integration in prettymuch... EVERY game. Microsoft has got the Online Gaming World of Xbox Live on the right track; for now and hopefully for the future.

"While not a lot, this is a first for a company that has yet to publish an online-enabled console game (only Sega did for GameCube). But those 16-digit console codes have us sweating the potential."

Not true what about Phantasy Star Online Episodes I and II. Online capable on the Gamecube

Okay first and foremost I'm not a ninty or M$ fanboy but their services are the best. XBL provides solid game support while Wii provides access to great but old games and allows me to surf the net. Wii/360 for the win.
