As long as they don't break up guilds then who cares if the split up a server as long as it reduces lag and queues?

Some guilds have relationships (for raiding purposes) with other guilds that they trust. Thats the only other reason I can think of.

It matters more than you think. Let's say you are an end game raiding guild, and much of your guild's raiding success depends on gathering supplies from the auction house, or buying supplies from allied guilds. Then, suddenly your entire guild is thrust upon this new server, with a population 60% smaller than the server you used to call home. Do you think you will have the same variety of supplies/prices in the auction house? Perhaps your allied guilds didn't get transferred with you, and you need to forge new relationships with guilds you've never spoken to or played with. Some of the things you've come to depend on may not be available at all, and will force your entire guild to come up with new strategies to continue your raiding success.

Reduced lag and queues is good and all, but you don't want to lessen the enjoyment of your playerbase in order to solve lag and queue problems.

Yes, I understand that overcoming obstacles and adapting to new situations is a large part of becoming a successful raiding guild. However, those new situations and obstacles ought to be in-game and story-related, not real-world problems having to do with the hardware the game is run on.

All I know is that it's about time. Mal'Ganis in particular had an incredible numbers issue; I also think it was the only PvP server where horde outnumbered alliance 3:1.

As for the ending-beginning of guild relationships, it always seemed to me that there was enough turnover where the guild might have the same name, but the members could be drastically different from when you first encountered them.

@ Steve

Trainspotting is a film about heroin addicts coming to crossroads in their life. Presuming you haven't seen the film

Steve, "that guy on the left" is renowned Scottish actor Ewan McGregor, and as Koppite says, he's from Trainspotting.

I'm on the European WOW servers and there's a lot of free transfers going on here, too. The realm I'm on isn't too busy, thankfully.

My number one reason for not transfering is my guild isn't all in one guild! We have alliances with about 5 other guilds that we draw on for raid day and for groups. All the people are friends with everyone else. In the end each group has an identity they wanted to keep and thus are their own guild but really it's one large group, and making sure that tomorrow all my players are still able to take advantage of that network is huge for me as a guild leader.

Have they fixed the transfer issues from last week? Weren't a ton of people stuck in limbo from the first wave of realm transfers?

It'd be nice if they could match up the original servers needing tranfers and the destination servers' time zones, but they haven't. Not a huge deal what with our global community that never sleeps, but it'd be nice.
