Mercenaries 2 on Xbox 360? IGN thought so, but changed mind
Pandemic won't come out and say it -- but the tape displayed it. And now IGN has inflated it. "It" being the rumor that Mercenaries 2 is also being developed for Xbox 360 (the game's already confirmed for PlayStation 3). Are we still calling this a rumor? At the end of its roundtable discussion with Pandemic, IGN posted the obligatory plug for the developer's forthcoming game, originally writing (as captured by Xbox 360 Fanboy), "Keep an eye out for their next release, Mercenaries 2, coming to Xbox 360 and PS3, as well as some cool announcements in the coming months." IGN has since revised that sentence to read: "Keep an eye out for their next release, Mercenaries 2, as well as some cool announcements in the coming months." So was the original posting a typo? Or had IGN accidentally blown the lid off one of those "cool announcements"?

(Yes the puns are bad, but admit it, you want it on 360 too.)

I recently received a brainwave from the future. It's a post made on Joystiq. It's titled "Surprise! Mercenaries 2 coming to 360!"
It's coming. We all know it.

When they finally announce the game for the 360, everyone will be referring to this as another one of those "Worst Kept Secrets".
Unless Sony feels like shelling out the money to keep this an "Exclusive", I cant imagine the publisher would want to keep this on the PS3.
I also really doubt that Sony feels that Mercenaries 2 is worth the investment needed to keep the game exclusive to the PS3. I thought the first game was fun, defiantly underrated. However I would not consider it a system seller.

I can't help but wonder if there's some back room strategy from the Sony camp to pay as many companies as possible to, if not develop, not ANNOUNCE a 360 version of their game for a while. The whole 'limited exclusivity' thing, taken to a new level.
Food for though.

It seems like this is going to be an increasing trend for games this generation, holding out on announcing multi-platform games in hopes of an exclusivity payout. Not exactly a trend that I'm looking forward to.

I would have been surprised if they didn't release it for Xbox 360, very surprised. First one was multiplatform, so what are the chances of this being any different? Plus the whole Xbox controller in the videos should have been a clue from the start

I'm curious if the presence of achievement points will make the difference in which version to buy for dual console owners since graphics will likely be virtually identical.
