According to Nintendo, the DS has sold over 10 million units in Europe in just under two years making it the fastest selling system to do so on the continent. As always, Nintendo reminds us that the gazelle-like selling DS numbers represent actual units sold to customers not shipped to stores. The company also said Nintendogs has now sold more than 5 million copies in Europe since its launch in October of 2005; this is more than the game has sold in either North America or Japan. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go see if my neglected Nintendog has finally died...

My girlfriend is so enamoured with my DS that I bought a pink one for her, I'll give it to her on Valentine's Day with some flowers and chocolates.

Nah. Nintendo has it. But I'm not sure if this is good or not. Apple have a low market share so try measures to be the best especially with their software that only runs in OSX etc (FCP, Logic, iLife). I like the underdog for their fighting techniques. But now they're on top? I hope they still keep pushing. We don't want another N64 or PS3 after all.

Where does nintendo specifically state that its "sell through to customer and not retail"?
and second,
How does Nintendow know when a unit is sold off hte shelf?

1. FTA, paragraph 2: "According to Nintendo the ten million figure represents sell through to customers, not shipped units to retailers, with 1.7 million consoles being sold in December alone in Europe."

When a system is bought the serial number is usually scanned and then sent back to nintendo by the retailer.

1) You're further away, supply, shipping, and logistics issues
2) Games need to be translated in 5-6 diff languages.... UK English, french, spanish, german, italian, forgot the 6th (Polish?)
Besides, Europe has some nice things not in US. Case in point, all the good beer is over there. Even the crap that you export to NA is still better than the finest of our beers, which AFAIK, is just horse piss with a brand name like 'Budweiser'.

If only our beloved Continental brethren would care to pay attention in English class and stop dubbing EVERYTHING we may not have to go through silly things like that. It's the age of globalism, stop trying to isolate yourselves like that, you only bring pain and suffering to your gamer friends in Northern Europe!
