North-side Chicago Best Buy... was like 10th in line (in the snow) at 8am, they handed out vouchers on the way in at 10am opening. I got my Wii, plus 3 extra Wiimotes & nunchuks. Manager said they had just shy of 50 Wiis total.

Wii + Bears win = pretty good Sunday in Chitown

LongshotX: "dumb down everything to the best of your ability..."

It works for Apple. It worked for AOL.

You're right though, it isn't a bad thing that the Wii is, in your words, a Gamecube. In fact, it's as if I have two Gamecubes in my house now since I could play all my 'cube games on the Wii in the living room.

Nintendo hasn't deceived anyone though. They were honest enough to say that Wii games will look two to three times better than high-end Gamecube games and it's true. I don't know why people get all upset at the Wii though. I find it's a great alternative to the games on the other two systems that move exactly the same way but just look much better. I don't have an HD TV and don't plan on getting one any time soon either. I find I don't have the need to see Mario's individual nose hairs though.

Don't you feel there will come a time when they can't up the graphics on games anymore? Everything's HD and focused on realism but that's about it. No one can honestly name a PS3 or Xbox 360 game that couldn't have been done three, maybe even five years ago but just not look as good. When they've hit the ceiling with graphics where will gaming go exactly?

Nintendo is at least trying to offer an escape from the standard. It's a great step in the direction of inclusive virtual reality. You should applaud them for that as well, not just passing off another 'Gamecube'.

Change really is scary to many, but it's great to see that there are those willing to embrace is as clearly shown by how hard it is to still get a Wii.

oh no, Nintendo is surely doomed now that LongshotX will not buy a Wii! I am sure they will really feel that once they reach ten million sold. Damn you LongshotX, why must you cause the financial ruin of Nintendo?

"Two to three times better than high-end Gamecube games and it's true."

I have seen no game on the Wii that justifies this statement.

Let me preface this by saying I fell for the trap and orderd the bundle from ebgames online and decided I would just spend the money. Not a bad deal by the way but still $650 for a Wii is Wiidiculous. After I got the conformation It said it was on back order and would not ship until Jan 29th so I emailed them to go fuck themselves and cancelled the order yesterday mourning. I knew I would find one.

Ok so Im in Southern California and I got up with my new puppy at around 8, got some breakfast and got into the car. The sun was shining it was a beautiful day in L.A. I headed towards Best Buy but after exchanging my 7th 360 in 3 months days earlier I thought I would stop by my local ebgams on the way. No line. I go up to the store and sit down a few people showed up around 20 minutes later me and one dude chatted NERD game talk. I told him I bought a POS3 and that it was soooo not fun and all. We talked Xbox 360 and PSP but he was only a Nintendo Fanboy which is weird to me. I thought the gamecube was the faggiest console I had ever seen. Anyway he said he had his girlfriend wait a few times before and was like 4th in line when they only got three so he was up and out early on a mission like me to do a MAN'S job and get the fucking thing himself. So we waited 3 hours and when the store opened there were 25 people there which was cool cuz the store had 28 concoles. I got the first one and a few accesories no games Im not sure why and walked out. I was so happy. Got an email on my phone this mourning EB shipped my fucking bundle from Dallas, -$650 SHIT if Anyone wants one Ill have it by the end of the week.

Don't live in the US, but called a buddy that lives within walking distance to a Best Buy and Target. Told him about the flyer rumors, and he said he'd go check at 10am, when the stores opened.

No camping or lines, and no real Wii frenzy, but he walked in, asked the guy, and yep, they had some in stock. He picked one up for me, and it should be on its way.

Went to the local game shop (one of the thousands of parallel-import shops over here) and asked him for the English Wii (loads of Japanese Wiis here). It was 375.00usd, but still almost a 100usd price drop from last week - seems the Wii shortage issue is normalizing.

Or so I thought. The man at the store told me that the Wiis are all sold out - again. After one day.

Oh, and there's something wrong with the IQ test, because it always shoots off the scale when I take the test. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that every time I get a hard-on I feel woozy because all the blood rushes out of my head and I want to pass out.

Still Wii-less. I went to see if they had any in stock, but new that I would ending up Wii-less. I might have been able to get up to get to the store when they opened if I hadn't been out drinkin' all night. I wasn't about to go home with nothing though, so I finally picked up a copy of Final Fantasy III after not getting it for christmas like I had hoped.

It sounds like it will be March before I'll get my hands on a Wii. It's going to be a long couple of months.

Keep the Faith.

What Nintendo pull off yesterday was pretty lame. Just to keep the buzz going. Its a real life game being play out creating hype, hysteria and your chance of landing a Wii. February 18, stay tune for episode 4.

Stores in my state can't open until noon on Sundays. I showed up to Best Buy at 8:30. Nobody was in line. One other car was in the lot. Target has about 10-15 people waiting in line there.

My Best Buy had 30 to sell. Only 27 people were waiting in line. This isn't quite the rush I was expecting, and nothing like the PS2 craze when that was released.

@ LongShot X

wait for Sonic and the Secret Rings
and Metroid Prime 3
(SSBB will push some polygons too, given the screenshots)

Those games actually look like they could stand up to a 360 in SD, opposed to most of the flock out now

The last time there was one of these Sunday Circular days, I ended up being #26 in line at a Bay Area Best Buy that turned out to have 24 Wii's. So this time I was determined, but at the same time not crazed enough to camp out all night. So I got up at 4am and headed out to my local Target in Albany, CA.

I was about 9th in line after a couple groups. Folks kept arriving in trickles all morning long until the line snaked around the corner. At one point a car pulled up, saw the number of folks that were already there, and literally peeled out and left. Folks played cards, slept, talked, huddled in the cold. It was all very mellow and friendly. The cleaning crew went in, did their stuff, and came back out, smiling at the loons waiting outside in the dark for a game system. One Target employee on his way in or out told us he'd heard they had 40 Wiis, which cheered us up some.

At about 45 minutes before the 8am opening, a Target guy came out with vouchers, and gave one to every group, which seemed a refreshing fair way to do it. Nobody complained, and all went well, though I did notice a fair amount of people leaving empty handed after he ran out of vouchers, which meant there were a lot of people in that line. When the store finally opened, there was no mad rush, especially when the news went out that they had no controllers of any sort. So we all calmly got our Wiis and a game or two, and the whole ordeal was done.

While I could have done with more sleep and less cold, I thought the way Target handled it was fair and reasonable, the crowd was cool, and my new Wii rocks.

Now all I gotta do is find some more controllers...

I strolled into my local Blockbuster on Saturday around lunchtime to rent some PSP games and noticed a little girl and her mom walking out with a new Wii. I asked the guy at the counter if they had the Wii in stock and he said that they had one left but it was being held for someone. That someone was supposed to pick it up by noon the day before so the manager let me have it. SCORE! If you are still trying to snag a Wii, check your local Blockbuster. Peace out.
