The game is not half bad. It's pretty decent only the demo times you after you level something twice, which i find annoying. Though I wish i could pick up cars and throw them aroung from the start, but whatever.

"Last night's Itchy & Scratchy was, without a doubt, the worst episode ever. Rest assured I was on the internet within minutes registering my disgust throughout the world." - comic book guy

Seriously. I have no doubts Saints Row is better than this. But, I have no desire to play Saints Row either. I played for less than 10 minutes, couldn't stand much more of it. Everything is either huge / small compared to the character. The character never seems to be actually in the environment (hard to understand how im describing this without playing, but every screen shot doesn't seem to show how the character in motion really is with the game, play yourself to see what I mean). Cars are clunky. Camera is very sensitive. I understand the game isn't going for realism here, but the generic gangster characters insult the use of generic gangster characters in other games that take themselves serious! They are just bad (not good bad). Bah. I had no expectations for this game beforehand, now I have pity for it.

Lost Planet rules all right now.

Downloaded it and got to play for about twenty minutes. Everything I expected, so far. It was a blast to go leaping from building to building, gunning down thugs in the alleys between.

Pleasantly surprised. Last week's 1up show had it pegged -- it's GTA, it's Saint's Row, you've played it before ... but it's still a good bit of fun. I found myself late for work playing it. But don't expect anything groundbreaking.

Honestly, not all that impressed. Saint's Row is much better, and hell, I even enjoyed The Godfather more. Might have been a little more enjoyable if the auto-targeting wasn't so found of corpses or those enemies 2 miles away when there are 15 standing right in front of you. And for playing as a cop, the cops are after you faster in this game than any GTA or SR. It reminded me of Just Cause, but nowhere near as good and with a much lower cool factor. Not a fan at all of the art style either. And I hope there is a create-an-agent in the full version, because all of the choices you are given completely suck. All in all, for most people, it will be a free pack-in game with the Halo 3 beta, and from what little I played, that's about the status it deserves. The car physics are wonky as hell too.

I thought it was ok. The controls are a bit too clunky though for the type of arcade action that the game seems to be aiming for. There are, for example, a number of times where I would have to jump onto a ledge but, because of the way the ledge/coping jutted out from the edge of the rooftop/wall, i would wind up hitting my head or missing the ledge. The lock on system is also a bit lacking. While it's cool to be able to target a gang banger's knees, it'd be nice to be able to cycle targets a la the lock on system in gta-san andreas, and about every other game with the z-lock system. There were a bunch of times when i'd go to lock onto a person and lock onto a nearby car or nothing at all. In short, I expected tighter controls.

I found the following thread more illuminating than these comments. You guys have to realize the game is about leveling up.

I really enjoyed that. Played some single player. I love games like Spiderman 2 and all that, being able to jump around a city is way too much fun for such a simple concept.

I will be definitely buying this :D

I felt a little overwhelmed. It was fun, and MAN the draw distance... I need time to get accostomed to the game.

I agree with Jonah Falcon... The draw distance is to die for. I mean 90% of all other games with great draw distances give you a slide show when you swing the camera around, but not Crackdown.

I really like the game, even though I only played it for 30 minutes this morning. My buddy and I are gonna head online with it tonight which I've heard nothing but great things about.

And yes, the game is somewhat repetetive, but if it's repetetively fun as hell to play, who cares?

First off for those who are dissing the game, that's fine, it's your opinion, but lets maintain some logic in the comments. I read posts and sometimes I wonder if they really played the game and enjoyed it/or not for what it is vs what game its not. Is this GTA no - and it doesn't want to be (Dave Jones already did that). Is it Saints Row - no that was a GTA ripoff. Is it Lost Planet - uh...? You get the point. So what is it? It is an open world game with a cool art style, sick draw distance, sick destruction, great use of physics, and some genius level design that introduces the vertical component with meaning into the sandbox genre. Can you jack cars, sure, but you may never need too since you can level up your powers. Folks this is what this game is about, the insatiable urge to level up your agent so that a simple grenade can cause catatrophic destruction, or to finally make the ledge that you just kept missing by a fraction. If you don't like blowing thinks up, or sniping an enemy as you jump 10 stories over a building then don't bother playing. The fact that this game can be coop with no limitations on either character in such a huge world is a technical marvel and worthy of the "next gen" moniker. 'Nuff said. Just play the demo and decide for yourself...back to "crack"...down.

It looks like the aiming and driving and everything else improve with leveling. I like that idea, I'm excited to try it out.

I always play games with that "GTA" freeroaming aspect and wish you could have multiplayer and still have the entire city and no limitations like in single player. Finally someone got it and made this game. As far as the demo itself, I love it. I don't even care about the Halo 3 beta I just want this game. My only complaints about the demo is the fact that its timed and how it took me forever to get a co-op going but obviously these wont be issues in the full game.

Hmm...
I really liked the leveling up, but I wish there were more variability in the combat. It feels like mindless run and gun (someone compared it to Just Cause, and I agree in this regard) and that tends to take me out of the game.

I had a lot of fun jumping around getting the agility upgrades, though! That aspect is definitely great and if they DO indeed level up your combat skills (and it gives more variability) I could easily look that aspect.

The missions were a little eh -- didn't really care about doing them, just more run and gun with one main guy you gotta run and gun down.

It looks like this will be good for a rental. Who knows, it might surprise and be worth more... it seems fun, but a bit of clunkiness coupled with what feels like an imprecise combat system probably won't warrant a buy. It could be much, much worse though! Haha...

Sounds like a great game.

However, I do have a suggestion based on the comments. I hope they give the gamer a taste of better super powers before making them earn them. That way, we have incentive to level up, instead of dropping us on level 1 and expecting up to naturally want to level up. This game should be like a crack dealer offering samples in the beginning.
