Yeah...about that...how many times do we have to remind someone that Gears of War is NOT a first-person shooter. It is a THIRD-PERSON shooter. Yes, you're still shooting things, lots of other things are different. (Hopefully, that wasn't be nit picky either).

that's good...it's a great game so the more people that get to experience it the better. I only wish I had more time to play it myself.

I'm sure I won't be the only one to point this out;

GEARS OF WAR IS NOT A FIRsT PERSON SHOOTER , IT IS A THIRD PERSON SHOOTER

Good to hear, hope to see more hardcore gamers on GoW online now, instead of 7 year olds who think "bellend" is the height of their insult vocabulary and 21 year olds who can't stand it when a person (me) chain saws an entire team of 4 and kicks that said person out of the match. Lol ensues.

There's no motion sickness in Gears of War because unlike a 1st person shooter, the gamer HAS a point of reference (Marcus Fenix), and the eyes focus on him.

Well then, I guess that means they've got 200% more games to play than most of the Japanese people who bought a PS3 at launch...

Seriously, though, how awesome is this? The Land of the Rising Sun, who mostly didn't get through college on late-night marathon Doom sessions is now embracing a classic, testosterone-driven American Sci-fi style shooter?

Time to sing a little God Bless America...Where are my firecrackers?

Nice that the 'b)' point was fixed, but that still leaves the opening quote, which is a fallacy in itself. Remove it, as this article has NOTHING to do the motion sickness Japanese players get while playing 1ST PERSON SHOOTERS!

This is good for gamers of both ends of the world. I think it's cool as hell to be playing with people across the globe. My favorite online experience to date was a 200 mile endurance race in test drive unlimited between a kid from Germany and Spain. Luckily we all spoke English. Racing around and shooting the shit was awesome and it was the first time I ever got to interact with someone from those countries. Really enjoyed their humor and it was an awesome and close race.

Of course everyone realizes that this will sell more GoW games to existing 360 owners, as well as sell more 360s as it gains popularity.

Never underestimate word of mouth advertising. I am sure there are a lot of Japenese having a blast chain sawing people on line.

Do not be surprised if a year after the PS3 release, the number of PS3 and 360 owners in Japan are equal. Yes I realize that the 360 has been in Japan for over a year already, but as Trusty Bell, Lost Odyssey and other Japanese developed games get released while nothing comes out on the PS3, sales for the 360 will pick up.

I think the 360 only trails the PS3 by like 300K out there anyway.

That's nice. It makes me sad to think of the Japanese missing out on the glory that is the 360 (not a fan boy, the 360 is the only microsoft product I have ever bought other than a mouse).

Also, I can't stand FPS but loved Gears. Since it *is not* a FPS like many have stated above. Cripes.

They can't play FPS because in order to aim & shoot you have to have your eyes open.

Thats why they love turn-based RPGs, because their eyes are almost close, a slow game is the only kind of game they can truly enjoy.

@Phil - You are delusional.

On topic, I like to think of Gears as an action game that involves shooting. Much like RE4. Either way, I still need to get those two new maps off xbox live to enjoy. It is a great game with very few flaws ( glitches, short, and plot holes. ) In fact, Gears and Dead Rising are the reason I got an xbox 360. Well, Those 2 games and the christmas price drop ( Got mine for 200+tax XD ).

Cool. I for one hat FPS's. They make me very sick. I've wanted to play Halo and many other shooters but my body says no. At least I don't have seizures when I watch Anime.

P.S. Katamari Damacy made me throw up on my dog.

It's suprising that Japanese people do not get motion sickness from Gears of War?

Gears also follows many of the trends 1up recently profiled in respect to Japanese style gameplay vs American style. It has a lot of the stylistic features many Japanese games find desirable. Linear storyline gameplay, fixed camera, checkpoints, cut scenes, etc.

Is it possible that Gears is selling so well becaue..there is NOTHING else to be found on the 360? The amazing thing is, the 360 games library is hardly better than PS3 despite launching one year ahead
1. No innovative racing games like Motorstorm
2. No decent RPG (JUST ONE:Blue Dragon, which is no FF, the japanese have realised)
3. No good fighting game (DOA4...puke)
4. No game like DMC / God of war / Heavenly.
Saint's row is a poor copy of GTA, Dead rising is so buggy its unbelievable.
So what do you buy? What do you get on the 360 thats good? Well the answer is: - loads of shooters R6, GRAW, Lost Planet, etc etc. And the most hyped is Gears, so naturally you will buy that. Obvious isnt it?

"Third person" isn't really the same thing as "over-the-shoulder first-person". There's not a fixed camera on the second. Something like MGS is, for the most part, a third-person camera. Gears and Brute Force are only "third person" in the sense that you can see your character.

#26 Then according to that kind of logic, that would be the only reason resistance outsold GoW as #24 stated. Because there was nothing else that was worth playing -_-

Maybe Halo 3 should get a redesign in the East? I mean, if that's all it is, it seems like idiocy not to attempt to make one of the 360's most effective future assets for the 360 in the more attached markets similarly effective in Japan.

It strikes me as an ignorant miscalculation, like the original xbox controllers. I'm sure Epic made their decision for these reasons to some extent, and it seems they've cornered the japanese xbox market quite nicely.

You must be delusional Mt. Resistance: Fall of 360.

"1. No innovative racing games like Motorstorm"

Ah because Motorstorm continures the trend of stripped down PS3 games that continue to fail the onslaught of Sony hype. 1080p ring a bell? Online? Nope. So inovative they decided to leave out many standard features.

"2. No decent RPG (JUST ONE:Blue Dragon, which is no FF, the japanese have realised)"

Let's count the number the ps3 has. Enchant Arms. Oh wait. I played that last year practically. On my 360 no less!

"3. No good fighting game (DOA4...puke)"

So you actually haven't played it then.

"4. No game like DMC / God of war / Heavenly.
Saint's row is a poor copy of GTA, Dead rising is so buggy its unbelievable."

I'm sorry, but what beta copy did you get a hold of? I haven't seen any bugs in Dead Rising. GTA is so archaic compaired to even the new stuff that Rockstar's working on that that's not even worth a commment on.

"So what do you buy? What do you get on the 360 thats good? Well the answer is: - loads of shooters R6, GRAW, Lost Planet, etc etc. And the most hyped is Gears, so naturally you will buy that. Obvious isnt it?"

Still a larger library than the ps3 has right now. And gee... isn't Resistance a shooter? Looks like you're calling the kettle black there Fall 0f 360.

Why do fanboys like you need to find fault with everything? If it aint sony, then it's shit, and if it is sony and bad news, then it's blown out of proportion. Grow up you sack of shit fanboy. I can't stand this attempt at reasoning.

Nah, *modern* first person shooters suck. I miss the golden days of FPSes: Doom 1+2, ROTT, Quake 1, Duke 3D, Strife (anyone remember that? Truely ahead of its time), Descent, Thief, Shadow Warrior, Blake Stone... It's pretty much all gone downhill since then.
