It's been rumored, but now it's officially here! The amazing, changing PS3 shows no signs of slowing as Sony has unleashed yet another force-fed update for the PS3. The new 1.5 firmare does add some functionality that PS3 fanboys might actually care about. Here's the official list direct from Sony.
- Users
- You can now select an image to use as the User Icon from [Photo].
- Settings
- [Key Tone] has been added as an option under [Sound Settings].
- [Delete Backup]has been added as an option under [System Settings] > [Backup Utility].
- WEP 128, WPA-PSK (TKIP) and WPA-PSK (AES) have been added as security methods that can be used with [AOSS™] under [Automatic].
- Friends
- The method for saving your password/automatic login under PLAYSTATION®Network has been changed. There are now two separate options.
- Other
- You can now enter text in Korean using the on-screen keyboard.
While you'll see those who complain that the PS3 is succumbing to a "just patch it" mentality, I applaud Sony for aggresively improving the PS3 and adding interesting new features. Who hasn't been waiting for that Korean keyboard functionality?
The upgrade is available now.
