Unreal Tournament 2007 renamed, confirmed for 360

Ludicrous gibs news now, with Midway announcing that Unreal Tournament 2007 will be arriving on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 (Gasp!) in the second half of 2007. The furious first-person fragger will also see its name changed to Unreal Tournament 3, no doubt in reference to Unreal Engine 3 powering the lusciously rendered proceedings. Of course, this requires you to erase one of the previous titles from your memory, lest Unreal Tournament 3 becomes the fourth game in the series.

Epic Games promises to tweak online modes to best suit each platform and will include a substantial single-player component to match the multiplayer mayhem. In addition, owners of the PC version will be able to design their own levels and game modes, thanks to the accompanying Unreal Engine Toolset. Best get upgrading then, creative types!

Like i said on 360 fanboy: There a 2 games I will NEVER play without a mouse and keyboard, Unreal Tournament is one, and Counter-Strike is the other. These are twitch shooters and would be no fun without my M&K. /Quote The trouble here is if my PC (no slacker mind you) will be beefy enough for my standards.

They're referring to Unreal Championship I and II, silly.

I'm very curious to see how the 360 graphics will compare to the PS3. Will it prove what Sony said is true? Or will the 360 look fantastic and Sony will yet again be known as liars.

UT2003 and UT2004 were pretty much the same game. 2004 was just a MAJOR upgrade to 2003. So I can live with UT2007 being UT3, though I really liked the year names to make it seem like a sports game, since the Tournament is a sport in the future...

But hell yeah at 360 announcement! I knew this would happen eventually! ...now...they just need to add keyboard and mouse support to the game and I'll be the happiest man ever.

It is likely counting the 2003-2005 games as one game. Like how there wre like 4 Calls of Duty between COD2 and 3.

no they are not referring to championship (it would be called unreal championship 3 then and not tournament!), they are just ignoring ut2003, because, well ut2004 is like the standalone addon that is much better than the original version and is sold at full price

Because it will be the same as UT2007. UC1 and UC2 were different than the concurrent UTs at the time.

I'll agree with people that say they are not interested in this without M&K.

Twitch FPSs are best for the PC. You just can't twitch with analog sticks.
Console FPS games tend to be best when they are slower paced.

If they can't get this to work like a PC with a keyboard and mouse.. and are able to get it to work pc-made mods, maps, etc. like the PS3 version is supposed to be able to do, then I won't need to buy a new computer anymore.

If you wanna play UT 3 w/a mouse and keyboard just buy or upgrade a PC, cause m+k support aint gonna happen on a console (other than dashboard functions) so I'm gonna say this as politely as I can, please get over it. That horse has been beat to the ground:in the ground. LOL.

ut2003 & 2004 were basically the same game. think ut2.3 & ut2.4. 2004 had 2003 included as well. so they count as 1 game.

Again?! Another delay? This game was due last November. I was all psyched about getting it. Now it has been delayed from March to 3nd half of 2007? For what? Console ports?

They should just release the game on PC already and let those of us who cherish "Headshot" and "Wicked Sick" to get on with playing the sweet sweet game!

Although on Live that could be lots of fun too!

Its not a sport--its a game, and probably most gamers hate sports and don't go outside anyway (I kid with the gamers...)

Seriously though, I hope it plays more like the original (and best) UT, instead of trying to make people look like gruff soldiers ala GoW and making the maps the size of Texas.

Funny. Truth be known. The PS3 has very little exclusives left.

And I love how you're laughing at him for wanting PS3 exclusives even as one of them is announced for the 360. You don't have to be sorry, because Moonfire and others won't be disappointed if this trend continues (and it will).

A lot of you guys are worried about upgrading your systems, but if you kept up with the previous games, you'd realize that the Unreal Engine's always been tailored to work on a wide variety of system specs. It may not look as bad-ass as it does in the screenshots, but I imagine if you lower the right settings, you can still get a fairly smooth experience on a modern day computer with a decently priced graphics card.

And I'm sure they're referring to Unreal Tournament as one game, UT2K3 and 2K4 as one game, and this as the third game.

Whatever the outcome, if this is anything like the previous games, its going to suck up all my free time. Love these games. :)

UT2K7(UT3) was never a Playstation 3 exclusive. The reason Epic never said anything about UT for the 360 was because of Gears of War.

Seeing as how this franchise started on the

Didn't Unreal Tournament for the PS2 support Mouse and Keyboard? I wouldn't put it past Epic to do the same for all versions of UT3.

Is there a UT2 its not listed on gamefaqs.

As for minimum specs I'm expecting 2Ghz and 512 ram plus a semicompetent 3d card. While UT has always been able to be made to look gorgeous it has also always be very forgiving on the lower settings.

The UnrealEngine 3 requires ShaderModel 3 (see Rainbox 6: Vegas). Thus requiring a Ati X1600XT and up, and a Nvidia Geforce 6600 GT and up to get anything playable.

There has never been a game called "Unreal Tournament II". In the series it went from the original UT to 2003 and then 2004, both of these games being quite similar so they're lumped together making this the real third UT title, hence Unreal Tournament 3.

You can add Lost Planet as well. Funny how all the fatbox exclusives are shooters or shooter-RPG hybrids. I must say, fatbox fans will gain if all the exclusives become multi-platform - notice how pathetic the 360 lineup is after 1.5 years.
And unfortunately, while fatbox fanboys are pleading and begging for PS exclusives (while they abuse Sony) so that they have a few good games to play, Sony are already moving ahead with the next generation of games. Sony has good shooters as well..plus games like Motorstorm, Warhawk, Lair, heavenly Sword...remind me the equivalent games on the 360?

@33 > No UT2 ever, from UT to UT2k3. Either way I don't care if they "missed" one.

UT3 is a much better name than the yearly suffix and keeps it inline with the engine version so a great move by Epic. :)

I will be getting the PC version but it's still good to see it for the 360 because TRUE spec comparisions will now be all the easier, you will see why PS3 is so bottlenecked and hacky.

UT3 on the 360 will be broken before it even ships. You simply cannot play an unreal tournament game on a console. If you are, then it isn't an unreal tournament game.

The biggest mystery of all is why microsoft won't allow mouse & keyboard gameplay on the console. It would open up so many doors for the 360.

LoL at the comments about sony having their exclusives. At the rate their losing them they ALL prolly will be ported ova to the XBOX 360! and BIG deal if it is a lil wait for it to be done, US 360 owners (10 mil. strong and growing!) have plenty of options to play 'TIL they're ported. The REAL incredible FACT is that as of NOW there is 377 games named for the XBOX 360 that have been made or are in development COMPARED to the 220 games named for ps3...

I knew Resistance: Fall of 360 would chime in. It just amazes me that a PS3 fanboy that names himself after a shooter chids the 360 for having shootes. I hate to tell you this, but their are more Japanese RPGs scheduled for 360 release this year than PS3. Kind of puts a whole in your shooter argument.

LoL, typical xbot hyperbole. They are in fact a little about 4.5 million xbox 360 users. 10 million is the WORLDWIDE NUMBER.

And all the 360 "exclusives" are basically just games stolen from the PC where they would be better played with mouse and keyboard, because most are shooters. Microsoft is using its deep pockets to try and buy exclusives so it can gain marketshare and then milk you xbot fanboys in the future with microtransactions, and you guys are falling for it. Losers.

So let me get this straight... 360 is all shooters... but the ONLY semi-good game on the PS3 is a shooter and you just happen to name yourself after it???

Well, how are these for just a handful of EXCLUSIVES not to mention any CROSS-PLATFORM or NON SHOOTER titles.... Forza Motorsport 2, Two Worlds, Guitar Hero II, Alan Wake, Fable 2, Mass Effect (which by the way isn't a shooter and you would know this if you have ever played a BIOWARE game DUMBASS!!), Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars..... the list goes on. Yeah, sounds like XBOX 360 is ALL about shooters. Again I remind you I didn't even mention cross- plateform games such as GTA 4 or ASSASSINS CREED. FACE IT pal, you lose. Xbox and Playstation have reversed roles in this generation. PS3 is about the hardware this time, and Xbox 360 is about the games. It's only a matter of time before we aquire games like MGS4 also. And if Rouge Squadron is any indication of the level of depth in one of Factor 5's games.... then Lair is NOTHING to brag about. Xbox 360 is a SOLID system and it is kicking PS3's ass!! THAT'S A FACT JACKASS. So why don't you go back to you GAYSTATION 3, play your ONE game, and wait some more for ANY titles to come out!!

Calm down people. This is great news for 360 owners. As primarily a PC Gamer, I can't wait for the freakin demo to be released, supposed to be coming in the next few months. Between the hundreds of maps/mods coming to this baby(if it's anything like UT2004), this is a must buy. I gotta further the notion that a keyboard and mouse is the only way I play "twitch" shooters like UT. I'll use my controller for sports. I just wish Epic would get their "stuff" together and give us our game!
