Duke Nukem Forever screenshot: prepare to squint
It's very small, you see. Spotted in a Gamasutra job listing and then discussed in a Shacknews forum, a puny proof of life for 3D Realms' perpetually unreleased Duke Nukem Forever has now been placed under the internet's collective microscope. "That's an in game, real-time shot of Duke standing in a random hallway," says George Broussard, posting on the official 3D Realms forums. "I'm glad some of you enjoyed it, and we'll show more later as we start to wake from our slumber and decide how best to show the game off."For a start, bigger screenshots would be nice.

Bigger screenshots will be taken when they're taken!
dustinerix @ Jan 26th 2007 8:52PM
thats crazy.. this game was supposed to never come out.
HotShotX @ Jan 26th 2007 8:52PM
In-game screenshot my ass, that looks like an action figure with some clever lighting.
I call shenanigans.

LR @ Jan 26th 2007 8:54PM
Have to admit, it's looking pretty good.
Zediker @ Jan 26th 2007 8:58PM
Still looks like a plastic figurine to me. So until I see other screenshots, I'm still calling this one out as fake, no matter what the devs say, because I honestly cannot trust them anymore.
Smoke_Dawg_187 @ Jan 26th 2007 9:01PM
That is an action figure, with a TV in the background and a sofa armrest to the left.
Smoke_Dawg_187 @ Jan 26th 2007 9:03PM
Actually to the left of dukes head, you can see a black leather chair.
GameArtGuy @ Jan 26th 2007 9:06PM
Anyone notice Duke Nuken Forever's initials are DNF, in racing that stands for Did Not Finish.
And... this apperently is coming to the 360 according to the job description
Genius @ Jan 26th 2007 9:07PM
Upon further evaluation, I'm 100% certain thats a platic figurine with a TV in the background. What a pack of liars.
Arturo @ Jan 26th 2007 9:11PM
i cant really tell...but the bottom left looks like part of a thumb or something...
zenprism @ Jan 26th 2007 9:16PM
There's guns in it this time! Awesome!
JimyD @ Jan 26th 2007 9:20PM
Hail to the King, baby!
Steven Bruce @ Jan 26th 2007 9:42PM
Sounds like fun, work on a game that will never be released? Or maybe they're just interested in seeing how many people actually apply, and then laugh when they turn them all down.
All in all, I would have to say that is an action figure...kind of a pathetic attempt at recreating an "In-game" screeenshot, lol.
Cody @ Jan 26th 2007 9:55PM
LOL. I actually believed this was real when I saw it an hour ago.
Now... http://www.3drealms.com/actionfigures/images/acfig4.jpg
Like everyone else stated it is almost definitely an action figure.
alienclay @ Jan 26th 2007 10:02PM
but, what vaporware will we make fun of if they acctully make DNF! i mean, ten years is hard to beat!
Steven C @ Jan 26th 2007 10:03PM
December 2007 guys..........just remember I called it.....cause I know something that you all dont know hehehehe.
Azerael @ Jan 26th 2007 10:09PM
December 2007 is when they announce there is no Duke Nukem Forever mirite.
Biofreak @ Jan 26th 2007 10:08PM
looks like unreal 3 engine to me
Verxion @ Jan 26th 2007 10:27PM
It isn't anything any of you couldn't do but just so you can see it well enough to get a LITTLE of an idea of what it is, I enlarged it.

Hoffy @ Jan 26th 2007 10:41PM
Cody - you're right on the ball buddy. That is the EXACT action figure in the picture.
Joystiq - you need to officially call out 3drealms on this.
Paul W @ Jan 26th 2007 10:45PM
Wow.
I REALLY want to believe this is real. Duke Nukem 3D was one of my favorite games back in the day, and the first episode still is a good time waster.
Please 3D realms. Finish the game. Hell, put it on the marketplace if need be. Just release it.
Strike Man @ Jan 26th 2007 11:19PM
"Cody - you're right on the ball buddy. That is the EXACT action figure in the picture."
Is it? The position on the shells is a little lower on Duke's chest in the "screenshot", the figure doesn't come with those weapons (see acfig1.jpg), and the figure seems to have more ripples near his pecs than the shot above shows.
I'm not saying the uber low-res shot in question isn't a fake, but I'm not ready to believe that it's THAT figure, at least not yet. Either way, I want to hear more from 3DRealms on this one.
warpped655 @ Jan 26th 2007 11:32PM
I dunno, it is suspisous. (the fact that it so small)
but why would 3Drealms make a fake screenshot? It just isn't good for business. It might be real. It might not, either way I'm suprised.
David @ Jan 26th 2007 11:49PM
I say it's a ly too, just because this game will never be released.
Satertek @ Jan 27th 2007 12:11AM
No, it IS an in-game shot. Duke Nukem Forever is now a table-top RPG.
dvnt @ Jan 27th 2007 12:23AM
That looks like a maquette with a lamp shining on it. You can even see a chair back and a monitor in the background as others have pointed out. McFarlane Toys photographs their models with dramatic lighting to make them pop as well. As far as George B. confirming this, anyone can go log in as GeorgeB3DR on whatever site and claim DNF was coming out next week and people would believe them.
Total shenanigans until shots are delivered to the press. DNF is "Forever" vapor ware.
chenry @ Jan 27th 2007 1:04AM
@ 20 I thought it looked like a toy too, but it's not that one. The guns are different, the picture has no visible joints and the hands have gloves on. Action figure doesn't match up.
Could be everyone's favorite vaporware is actually turn into a real game.
DevilsArm @ Jan 27th 2007 1:12AM
it really does look like an action figure, maybe the actual ingame screen shot of him in the hallway is on the monitor in the back lol
calthaer @ Jan 27th 2007 1:58AM
I remember those action figures being in stores.
Reapz @ Jan 27th 2007 1:56AM
Even though this may be an action figure, if it is a screenshot it only took 10 years to get this far. I'd say by 2068 we'll have a demo of the game and by 2107 we'll be able to pre-order it for a 2123 release. Can't wait!
Mike @ Jan 27th 2007 1:59AM
Devil's arm might be on to something about the screen in the background. Clever
Azraelkans @ Jan 27th 2007 2:39AM
Hmm.. guys, 4 details here:
a. There is no action figure with that exact look of Duke Nukem, check the 3drealms online store.
b.If you remember the first GOW shots, they looked a lot like plastic.
c.It would be extremely stupid of 3drealms to show Off a fake screenshot at this point. It would be even more stupid to try to make people believe its real this long. (their jobs are in pretty thin ice over the whole DNF thing)
d. Prey and Too human were or have been in development at least 1-2 years more than DNF.
Im not saying DNf is coming, but maybe, just maybe DNF exists at some level, (actually some selected media members have even seen a small demo) and this is a screenshot of it.
Xian! @ Jan 27th 2007 5:37AM
Isn't it obvious? Duke Nukem Forever is rendered in... CLAYMATION!
Rico @ Jan 27th 2007 6:59AM
Looks like they're pretty much revealing DNF to be a hoax here. The image is almost certainly an action figure (look at the enlarged version) and it's suspiciously small to boot.
That or they're taking the piss here but still working on the game in secret. Which is unlikely.
geovany @ Jan 27th 2007 9:36AM
"DUKE NUKEM FORGET IT"
Eli Hodapp @ Jan 27th 2007 9:25AM
If you haven't read the list of things that has happened since Duke Nukem Forever was announced...
http://duke.a-13.net
It's not coming out anytime soon.
Steve @ Jan 27th 2007 12:13PM
"d. Prey and Too human were or have been in development at least 1-2 years more than DNF."
BZZZT. Wrong. Prey was announced 2 years AFTER DNF. We'll NEVER see this game. Hell my kid brother went from High School stoner to Doctor in the amount of time it's taken so far.
Alan @ Jan 27th 2007 1:51PM
I'm suspicious because of not only how it looks but also because of how they described it.
"That's an in game, real-time shot of Duke standing in a random hallway,"
Replace 'Duke' with 'Master Chief' and it's almost exactly what Bungie said when they showed off that first shot of Halo 3.
Taylor @ Feb 4th 2007 6:43PM
definately an action figure, if u notice on his left arm, his hand is only gripping the gun, his finger isnt in the trigger
ud think that if he was bout to shoot he would have both fingers in triggers
geovany @ Jan 29th 2007 12:13PM
If that guy of the picture it`s duke nukem forever then the looks is sucks, come`on we are not on the 80th` any more, if the developer will make this game please give that guy another look..
cgeorge @ Jan 27th 2007 4:35PM
The object in the foreground is a plastic figurine of Duke that is located in the dev office. In the background is a desk chair (to the left) and a computer monitor (to the right). On the monitor is an image that appears to be Duke facing right (look for the outline of his head and his right arm, possibly holding a chain gun, it's a bit overexposed, so it's hard to make out). This is the kind of teaser photo that Nintendo and Rare used to use during the beginning of the N64 era. They generate photos that people will commonly focus on the wrong viewpoint, when in fact, what is said to be in the picture is really there, just out of focus.
Hart704 @ Jan 27th 2007 5:38PM
DNF will never be released. I’ll gladly be wrong, but I don’t care about that game. I’m surprised that so many still do.
Alfarif @ Jan 28th 2007 5:01PM
@40
Remember the Donkey Kong video where the camera crew bumrushed in on an out of focus screening of Killer Instinct? Remember when you saw BLOOD coming out of the fighters and you went "WHAT THE HELL?! NINTENDO?!?" ... good times.
Joe @ Feb 26th 2007 6:44AM
DNF
DID NOT FINISH
DexX @ Mar 21st 2007 2:46AM
I own the Duke action figure, and that picture is not it. It may be a maquette or some other toy, sure, but this is absolutely 100% not the mass-produced Duke Nukem action figure (or the night-attack one, either, since he had camo paint on his face). This shot might be faked - I really don't know - but it is not the Duke action figure that everyone is claiming it is. The sunglasses are a different shape, the bandolier belts are a totally different design, the guns are completely different, the hair is a different shape, etc etc etc.
DexX @ Mar 21st 2007 2:48AM
Oh, and if it's faked, they've 'shopped it, since there are no visible seams where the articulated joints should be, most notably at the shoulder.
Frankenstein Black @ Mar 22nd 2007 12:26PM
"Shake it Baby!" (as he throws dollars at the dancing stripper). Duke Nukem Fornever ;^) Truly de Original Rude Bwaye!
