I am in friggin' love with the news channel.

There is something inherently attractive about having all kinds of world news stories auto-downloaded and ready for reading. In the morning, I can have a bowl of oatmeal handy and flip through news pages without waiting for any loading between stories, all on the comfort of my couch. Text isn't hard to read, interface is easy as hell to use and, hot damn, did I mention that loading time is nonexistent?

This is what makes it leaps and bounds above the trolls' comments about the Internet channel already being handy. This is the first Wii Channel that I think actually has an edge over normal TV or computer options, and if you sit your mom/grandfather/etc in front of the Wii with this, I guarantee you they'll love it immediately. And guess what? That's the reason they created this channel--not for the fanboys, but for the fence-sitters. Good job, Nintendo.

"So is the Wii really a system focused on games?"

Yes. The fact that they don't charge people for any of these features and they charge for games would hint at such.

They are giving something to people they say they are marketing to. It isn't meant to be ultra-complex stuff. For any of those channels to work, they need to be connected to the Internet. And while they're at it, they might as well have a web-browser to utilize the connection. It's nothing big.

But I guess it does set-up for when Nintendo's Online games finally come out.

BTW, Mario Galaxy might be coming soon. And so is Metroid Prime 3. That game is sure to test the limits of the Wii as well as its interface. Then there will be a Zelda made directly for the Wii.

I know you said '1st-party aside', but even I know Nintendo still has something to prove before they gain anymore support.

3rd-Parties were wary of Wii's ability to market its games and haven't had time to make games from the ground-up, but it's time that they do so as well.

Madden seems to have done well.

It was rather ironic that when I downloaded and tried the news channel the first story on national news was the lawsuit in the "hold your wee for a wii" fiasco.

I really don't understand some of you. First, I had to drudge through your comments (in earlier threads) complaining about the Wii's lack of DVD-playing capability. Now you guys are whining about the gimmicky-ness of this news channel.

I hope you hypocrites can see the irony.

The way I see it either FredT likes to come on the comment threads and piss people off which makes him a douche or he's the kind of person that believes everyone who doesn't think (or not think in most cases)like him must be morons that need to be put in their places. Either way he's a douche and should just be mocked and laughed at. Seriously FredT get some friends.

Oh, and seeing people get on the comments threads accusing people of being "nerds", "dorks", or "shut ins" makes me laugh. You're on a website reading what those dorks and nerds have to say that's pretty sad.

How did I make not sense? Are you too stupid to understand that the world doesn't revolve around you and your beliefs (however idiotic they may be)? Just because you personally find something useless doesn't mean it is in fact useless. Now, can your tiny brain understand that?

And sorry but your pety insults won't do much for you in an intelligent debate, but I'm guessing if it involves you it can't be too intelligent....and this is someone who calls themself "genius". Wow

How about YOU do the website (or better yet the internet) a favor and not post anymore with your narrowminded and immature views.

And using how many times I posted due to my having a connection problem as some sort of basis for my intelligence?

Wow....lol

Genius indeed.....

LongshotX,

I asked the same questions of the 360 a few months after launch. I was pretty much anti 360 until a little after E3, and started wanting one when dead rising came out.

I agree that the 360 NOW is totally focused on the gaming experience, and everything related to it. Kudos to MS, I didn't think they had it in them.

Now in nintendo's defence, a compelling game for the 360 didn't surface until 8 months after launch, and its killer app didn't hit until 12 months after launch (Gears). Now we see lots of titles on the horizon for 360 that seem to be quality titles. The games are there for the 360 now. They weren't last february.

The same can be applied to Nintendo. Give it a year, there will be killer apps. Now, I'm not saying buy a Wii now and that its not fair to say it sucks because 360's been out a year. The software lineup, with a half dozen exceptions, isn't very good. Zelda and wii sports were great system sellers, but not killer apps. The games coming out now are feeding the non/casual gamer market (to make sure Nintendo doesn't lose all that new market they uncovered).

Check the waters again holiday '07. I think you'll find the Wii much more attractive by then.

Or much less attractive... who knows how Nintendo will play its hand this year.

Just don't write it off. Give it time.

Shut up Rob, several other people have already said your post is rediculous. Stop trying to make yourself seem like you actually had a point to make. It's clear you have no idea what you are talking about, and that you are a rather disabled member of the "I'm a Wii fanboy" trolly.

@ Crono

Your assertion that Wii Sports is not a killer app is interesting (Zelda too, any game that garners critical acclaim/media attention i would consider a killer app)

Hell, i think Wii Sports will be the one game that defines the Wii more than any other, even though games that are leagues better than it come out, in the end, people will remember it for Wii Sports (just as people remembered NES for Super Mario Bros, even though many technically "better" games came out in the lifespan)

yeah, that must be it...you know if someone proves me wrong I can at least admit it.

and you know I'm right. Or do ou really believe that just b/c you say something is useless, it is in fact useless to the entire world?
