Wii to get original downloadable titles, 'Game Channel' possible

Looks like Nintendo found another way to nickle and dime us. I wouldnt have a problem with any of this if the damn games cost 50 cents or something reasonable. Charging $10 for a VC game that anybody with a brain and a PC with a control pad would just download a ROM for makes no sense to me. If you tried to buy those games with the cartridge it would still cost less. I own a Wii (and boy do I wish there were more non gimmicky games for it) I have no VC games, never will, thats what mame is for.

In general though, most people are blinded by the Wii madness, and just want to brag about what they have on thier Wii. Chances are 75% of the people who buy VC games play them once or twice then never play them again. I know when I look for a rom of an old game I play for a few hours until the nostalgia is over, then I usually dont give it a second look for ages. Either way though, Nintendo is charging rediculous amounts because the fanboys pay those rediculous amounts. So I expect no different with the original titles.

all right, i really wanted a wii, so my friend got one (he buys everything i want) so we go to play it, he is now a wii fanboy, after being a 360 fanboy. i tried red steel.....crap. goldeneye graphix, with a very imprecise control scheme. Played Monkey ball, kind of entertaining, but the control once again eluded me, tried wii sports. my friend made me play tennis (i hate tennis), but this game had the best control. then we played boxing, i had a lot of fun, but even when i threw the same punch with the control, my boxer never punched the same twice, all i did was jab, but my boxer threw haymakers, uppercuts, body blows............it never responded the way i wanted it too..........all this left me feeling sour, so i thanked my friend for making my mind up (f the wii) and watched him play zelda. now i'm a gamer and i hate to watch other people play, but i don't want to ever even try zelda (one of my favorite franchises). so then we take my wife over there, and she falls in love with the wii, and we're gonna buy one....damn.......

Truth, yeah you're so right, mature games will always prevail...speaking of which, what company has been tagged as "kiddie" since it's inception? Nintendo? Oh that's right....so what company is the only one that has been around for the past 5 generations and currently holds the handheld market hostage month after month after month despite competitors with much MUCH more powerful machines??? Yeah, honestly, when I was younger I used to love finding the most violent games possible. Felony 11-79 for the ps1 comes to mind, or Carmegeddon. But now that I'm a bit older I've found that I'm pretty sick of all the blood and guts and whatnot, it's not as appealing anymore. I've been playing WiiSports and Excite Truck non-stop, why? Because they're fun. I have a full time job and I drive an hour to and from work every day and when I get home I want something I can pick up and play for a bit and enjoy. I watch the news for an hour and I see enough blood and violence to last me for a year. Playing a realistic first-person shooter is a good time, and blood is obviously part of real-life but specifically seeking out the most violent games is something that I've outgrown a long time ago, I think alot of people have.

I'd personally rather that Nintendo add in online multiplayer for the VC games first. Then let's talk original content.
I know some people would rather the original games be preserved...and I respect that. But I work full time and don't get to see my friends that often since I moved about a year and a half ago, so I'd really love a chance to play some Mario Kart or Golden Eye (in my dreams) again.

That's not to say I don't want original content, of course. I VERY much so do. Hell, I'd LOVE to play that Adventures in Snowland game (or whatever is was called) using an actual controller, rather than a crappy keyboard layout.

I'd also love for Nintendo to release something similar to XNA so anyone can make simple VC/downloadable Wii games.

Nintendo REALLY has so much potential to just *FUCKING CRUSH* Xbox Live/Live Arcade in terms of quality content, and it's really a travesty to see them (so far) wasting it.

I'm a very happy person because Gamestop finally shipped my Wii bundle yesterday and UPS will deliver it to my apt any minute now. It's good to be in the 'Wii-circle' finally. I've been really jealous of all of you scored the system earlier. And it's Friday...don't get much better than that.

I'm pretty excited by the news and I had a suspicion Nintendo might do something like this. Actually, I have a hard time finding fault with the Big N this time around. Everything I can see from the willingness to work with 3rd parties, Wii channels, blue-ocean strategy, they've really learned from their mistakes and are putting the fun back in video games. It's like one of my childhood friends had been sick for a long time and is finally getting better.

I definitely agree that while the VC is a pretty cool way to get old games to new gamers, it really doesn't offer much to the old gamers that have already bought and played the games they have offered hundreds of times on older systems. What I really want(ed) Nintendo to provide was a VC service that allows multiplayer games to function via the online access. How cool would it be to shoot people up in Jackal with your buddy over in Austria? Or how about having the same bastard steal all your continues in Contra, when you're on your way to a perfect game but die because he inconsiderately jumps too far ahead, forcing you into a chasm of despair (provided Konami would step up to the plate)? Anyway, I think you get my point.
That being said, I absolutely expected Nintendo to get games out much faster than they are. I don't really think 1-3 games every Monday does the thing justice. They have a ridiculous amount of games to release, and are really taking their sweet time doing it.
I'm no Nintendo hater, I think the Wii is a really great system that is much deeper than Zelda and Mario (although I'm wondering why Nintendo, easily the best developer (which may be why TRUTH is so butt hurt all the time, or maybe because he just can't find a Wii), doesn't attempt developing new games for mature audiences.. maybe split off a group and call it Nintendo XTREEEEEME or something lame, and they could be the generally evil Nintendo that pulls pranks and causes havok for the good Nintendo), but Nintendo has really done a half-assed job with the VC. Not that they couldn't pull some firmware updates..

You all talk like online/extra features are impossible now for VC titles. Your Wii is connected to the internet my friends, those VC titles can easily be upgraded with a 5 minute download, who knows, maybe Nintendo is just waiting to get their online component sorted, and we'll be seeing Mario Kart 64 online. Graphic upgrades? Why the hell not?

Of course they can just as easily be lazy bastards, which is the more likely thing to happen, but don't lose all hope yet!

Am I the only person that doesn't see downloadable retro and indie type games as that great of a thing. I mean, it is optional so I can't bitch. But I've had Live for a year and Geometry Wars is the only game that kept my interest for more than a week. My gf loves lumines, astropop, and (embarrassingly) that fish eating game, but she doesn't play them very often. And that's it. I didn't buy a 360 to play Joust again, lol, even though it was the best Atari game evar. Honestly, the only retro games that I'd want are Mario, Mario3, Super Mario World, and duck hunt.

I could at least see with the Wii having something with a fun (to some) control scheme for some little quirky games. But how excited can you be for Ocarina of Time. Who has the time with all the new games coming out to go back and replay Ocarina. I would like to relive a few memorable moments, but not the whole damn game. There are too many new games to play.

And this arguing Wii vs 360/PS3 crap is totally worthless. They are so much different from one another. You can say things like "Wii is better for casuals" or "360 has better grafix". But you can't call one of them funner. I have a friend that loves WarioWare. I think it is the most retarded game ever invented. I'd rather read than play that game. But I can't say it sucks, just not my bag of tea.

You can argue PS3 vs 360 vs PC(sorta), but you can't bring the Wii in. It is its own experience and should be treated as such. Nintendo has said all along it would be "new generation" not "next generation", and they are right. My girlfriend much prefers the Wii over my 360, and I am not about to call her an idiot for that. We just have different gaming tastes.

What are the first, and second, party titles for the 360 and PS3? Halo. That is not new. Gran Turismo, that is not new. Any new genres? No. There is a dearth of shooting games and "mature" games. Mature games does not constitute "real" games. Your definition is too finite and close minded.

These are but a few of the great games that Nintendo releases. Metroid, Mario Kart, Pokemon, Pikmin, Battalion Wars, Pilot Wings, Wave Race, Advance Wars, there are a ton of them. I have some fun, but not more fun with my 360. Sure Gears of War was awesome for the first two weeks of playing it, but there was nothing other than online that made it have any replay value. Whereas, I still put in Excite Truck, Warioware, Rayman and especially Wii Sports for my quick gaming sessions and Zelda and Trauma Center for my longer weekends.

Just to recap, mature rated games doesn't correlate to "real" games. How old are you anyways? You can't be older than 20 or so, judging by your insecurities and incessant inane banter in every single Wii related blog entry.

People need to realize that each system will have their up and down months. Once a big hit game comes out for the system, the system will be praised for a bit until the next big game comes out. Super Smash Brothers Brawl for the Wii, is actually one of the most anticipated titles coming around for 2007. Just like MGS is PS3's big anticipated title, doesn't mean the game will make and break every other game that comes out.

I'm glad to see Nintendo slowly opening options for the consumer and developers. Just a sign that Nintendo is really trying to build their online market. Microsoft has had year to work with their online system and marketing. Nintendo and Sony should/have been taking notes ever since, and I think it will take more than 2 months to really press it all out.

The Wii already saves how long you played a certain game for, so to implement a Gamerscore into the Wii wouldn't be all to hard, but to do it creativly will take time. Im sure the VC titles will come out a lot more solid once the production choas dies down, and Nintendo can sit down and work with Online a lot more. To think Nintendo has already forgotton about this feature and doesn't have a lot of plans for it in the future, is just a silly assumption.

I agree that the VC Library has been kind of lacking of certain games and features, but I think it is a good core setup for Nintendo to work with, as Microsoft had Live to work with for this long. I personally enjoy trying to be Gradius or R-Type now of days, Old games seem to have a harder challenge to them, than new games now a days. The VC isn't for everyone, and not everyone feels it is a needed option when some have Roms on their computer, but it is definately a start and clean, easy fun.

Let's just remember the system is only 2 months old. You want to praise the PS3 also, but what AAA title does that have? I understand the fact that you are saying their are more games for the 360 right now, than on the Wii. That's wonderful, but match it up to the 360 Launch and you really only have one AAA title.

If you have even slightly payed attention to Nintendo this time around, You will see that it's not the same old shit. They have an entirely new marketing plan, and are pushing directions that they refused to go with on the Gamecube.

Unfortnatly for the Wii, a lot of the games out right now don't use the full potential of what the Wii can do. Zelda for example, is Gamecube graphics, yet looks really good for last generation graphics. If the game was made soley for Wii and had more time to work with it, Im sure we would have seen a more graphical Zelda game. The same goes for all these "Easy Access" ports that developers just lazily port over. This makes fanboys like you, make comments that is a Gamecube 1.5 and just shows you really haven't looked into anything. I enjoy both the X360 and the Wii, but I think you really need to get your head out of your ass.

When Nintendo releases Smash Brothers Brawl with online play, I think that will be the point where people will finally realize that Nintendo has taken a different direction and will have games that will compete with other AAA titles. Just like XBox though, it just takes a little time. 2 Months realistically isn't that long at all, especially in a game's develop time.

Don't get me wrong I love my 360 as I stated earlier, but I'm really waiting for some more games to play. Yes it has an awesome library and of course AAA titles. But for me it's about having fun and you said I need to get more games I'll agree but I already have 14 and even though that's not a lot, I only play the same 4. The others after they were beat just collect dust, and I'm sick of wasting my money on trading them in at Gamestop. Even though the Wii doesn't have nearly as many games I can play with my wife and kids and not have to worry about the M rated content. Trust me I love and live for M rated games but if you have a family and especially two little ones it's hard to play when they always have to be by you. Now if you don't have kids I can understand your arguement. But just because Nintendo likes to make games fun and as you would say (kiddie) there also still great games. I had to wake up also and realize that a game doesn't have to have a M in front to be good.

I wouldn't call them minor at all. The control schemes were never worked out as well as they should have been, and seemed slapped on most of the time. To take a game like Farcry, which Ubi half-assed tried to make money off the old series making it a launch title, and have it as your only defense.. Then man, I don't know what to tell you anymore.

You're right, Farcry looks like shit. To me, Farcry has the same "Minor Graphical Details" than most ports from the computer games that the XBox recieved. What's so half-assed about the Farcry port? Minor graphical details? Your arguement and defense is horrible. The thing is, You can't disagree with me that the computer game ports were horrible, You just dumb it down to make it seem like it wasnt that bad. You also didn't disagree that in the first half a year of XBox's life, was full of dumbed down ports with only one single AAA title to hold the system until better games and online play came out. Ports are just half ass in general. Half ass on the Wii, DS, PSP, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, X-Box, X-Box 360, and bla-bla-blablabla. They just make ports to get more money, not to give us a better experience. Something else that I have thought of is why do we need realistic graphics. Video games were made to escape reality not to be forced back into it. So fancy graphics aren't everything they are cracked up to be. That's why Nintendo is not joining in the arms-race. If Nintendo wanted they could make games with somewhere in between xbox and 360 graphics. The Wii uses a Power PC processor which is what the Mac's used to use and they could still handle graphics as well as Window's PC graphics. I know you wont reply to this, but oh well it's your fault if you want to continue to keep your ignorance. And no I am not a Nintendo fanboy.

COnsidering that kiddy Mario and Pokemon are the best selling Franchises EVER.

I want the Wii play "tanks" game to be one, with a bunch more levels and online multiplayer.

I think the whole point is that they'll have the Virtual Console to download classic games with no touch-ups whatsoever, same old graphics, no online play, and no Wii remote motion stuff. VC games stay exactly as they were.

Then Nintendo will have a new channel, or a new area within the Shop Channel, to buy new games, that have motion detection, online play, etc. This might also be where the updates to VC games you've already downloaded comes in. Let's say you already bought MK64 on the VC. Now they wouldn't make you pay for it again, but you'd just wait until their online service is active, and download the MK64 update for free, and it would move to the new channel for online play.

That way it's the best of both worlds. You should still be able to play the game, classic style, or airbrushed style with new features. That's what I'm predicting anyway.
