i can't wait for this personally. i have 2 wiimotes that run out of batteries alot. it will be handy especially for those who can't afford to re-buy all their wiimotes for wiimotes 2.0 (if the rumors are correct)

Why not just buy rechargable batteries? O.o They work for wii and xbox360 and ANYTHING else that you need AA batteries for. As opposed to buying battery pack which is a complete rip off as it only works for one thing. You can get 4 rechargable batteries and a charger for cheaper as well. Buying a battery pack for a specific thing, you may as well just send the game companies $30 in a envelope.

Yes, because having your controller rendered useless if the battery pack ever decides to fail is a brilliant idea!

Don't hold your breath for Nintendo to do anything soon... why should they, the stock holders are happy the system is selling there, in their minds there is no need for a re-chargeable battery... or an improved online experience. As long as those units keep moving! Thats the bottom line.

Wii-lly, the concept of a wireless Wii-mote without official Wii-chargeble batter-Wiis or a Wii-charging station is Wii-diculous.

I bet you'll wear out the PS3 controller before you need to replace the battery... if they ever decide to put out more games for the PS3... I like the Sixaxis, palindrome and all, although it should have rumble. Recharging through an included USB cable is the most user-friendly of all the new systems. I like the 360's quickcharge station too... C'mon Nintendo!

Sony's idea of a reachargable batter that can't be easily changed and comes with a relatively short USB charging cable is far from brilliant. The 360 Play and Charge kit on the other hand is great, because I can play and charge if I want to, or, if my batteries low and I don't want cables running from my console, I can still switch back to good old AA's until I get a chance to charge. I love the way the 360 runs in the power save mode when only charging, and turns itself off completely when it's done, but most of all, I love knowing I can put in a fresh battery to my 360 controller if I ever need to in a pinch, I don't have to keep spare controllers around just to keep a battery always charged.

The wii battery life isn't bad from how I've been using it. And since it doesn't have USB ports in front I wouldn't see much need for a USB charging solution anyway. I like the idea of the wiimote charing stand though, and would love to see that integrated in Wiimote 2.0.

Please, stop recommending "rechargeable batteries and a wall charger" whenever someone pines for a docking station.

If this idea was appealing to us in the first place, chances are fairly good we'd be happily using them already and not complaining.

If that arrangement works for you, that's fantastic. But being a guy that's been spoiled by being able to toss my Palm Zire and cordless phone onto a cradle when they run low on juice, the idea of constantly popping the batteries out and into a little box near an outlet just doesn't arouse me.

Nintendo are raping its customers and you guys love it....whenever they leave out a necessitty you guys start sounding like abused women making excuses. When making this much profit and chargeable solution should have been included...so shouldve dvd/cd playback. You guys pay HOW MUCH for a Wiimote/chuck. the fact that these two are separate units is FURTHER proof that nintendo is raping and making it look good I might add. I thought recharging was ass too untill i realize my 360 controller last about 2 weeks and even still i can recharge in anything wit a usb port..same goes for the sixaxis. I personnally hate sony/PS3 but using a regular Usb cord was a great idea for customers cause you can get those for like 5buck at like 16feet

I prefer my 2800mAh AA Batteries. I use them in my 360 and (when i get one) will use them in my Wii. Sure its not a cool-think-to-have battery pack. But when it outlasts the battery packs by far ill make that sacrifice.

Yeah, I wish all these 'Duh, just get regardable batteries' idiots would shut up and fuck off.

The whole point is that I want a charging dock so whenever the wiimote is not in use its charging. Therefore, I never have to a) run out of charge during play b) manually remove batteries and manually plug them into the wall c) have to look at the ugly thing sticking out of the wall (a wii charge dock would be much neater)

What you think weve never heard of rechargable batteries? You think we live in some special part of the world that doesnt educate peopel about this technological marvel?

Shove your batteries up your collective asses, you stupid whiney tarts.

To the guy who stated that Nintendo is raping us, what, exactly, is Nintendo gaining by not having a rechargeable solution for the Wii Remotes? Absolutely nothing. That doesn't constitute as rape, since that would require taking something away. Nintendo is taking anything away. Sure the consumer might be at a loss by buying tons of AA batteries, but Nintendo is at a loss as well since this is a pretty big potential turn off for future customers. Secondly, the reason why the Wii Remote and Nunchuck unit are seperate is due to the fact that many games, infact I think the majority of Wii games that are out right now, require the use of the Wii Remote alone and some gamers, depending on their tastes in games, may never even need to pick up a Nunchuck unit. Sure, I really do think that Nintendo should hurry up and release a first party rechargeable solution, but it really isn't a priority. Ever since the age of cordless phones people have slowly become spoiled. Now everything has rechargeable batteries. MP3 players, phones, palm devices, handheld game systems, the list can go out quite extinsively. People just don't remember the days when we had to continuously pop in new AA's into our portable CD players and gameboys. We've all just become spoiled. Just stop complaining and be patient and be thankful when a solution is finally released. Two third parties are currently working on great solutions (even they the battery pack on the Nyko station kit really is attrocious), and they should both be out relatively soon.

Lastly your comparisson to abused women is morbid and you should really think long and hard about if you were in that situation yourself before you open your mouth before you blurt out something as dispassionate as that. Reality is a far more complex thing than you realize for those kinds of situations. d.a.

Nice try I can’t think of one controller I've ever had go bad. I would rather replace a $5 battery over a $40 lamestation 3 controller. Not to mention all the trouble sony has had with batteries. One more reason to pass on any made sony product.

I didnt read all the comments, but even if it was said in each one, it bears repeating.

GO BUY RECHARGABLE BATTERIES!!!!

Duracell and Energizer make a charger that comes with 4 batteries and will charge them in FIFTEEN MINUTES!!! Im sure, like many things, the recarge time on this nyko base will be in the hours range. WHY WAIT!!

That is what I use, and I get about a week out of a full charge, playing roughly 4 hours a day. I think that is pretty good battery life, but I guess that is subjective.

"Shove your batteries up your collective asses, you stupid whiney tarts."

From the guy who want's something that looks nice next to his Wii or doesn't want to fumble around with chargers? What a nonce.

I've got myself some Annsman 2700mAh batteries that outlast any built in battery of my devices (iPod, 360, mobile phone, land phone). Rapid charger fills them in 20 or so minutes too. I'd love to see a 360 or PS3 attempt that with its USB cables.

Working at a videogame store, I have actually seen kids wear out the batteries in the GBA or DS by constantly charging them after every use.

I'm not trying to make excuses for Nintendo, but I know the first guy whose wiimote battery stopped holding a charge would be on his blog bashing the dock and built-in battery setup. Once the group of casuals who chuck remotes through televisions found out, it'd be the wrist strap debacle all over again, and Nintendo would probably have to mail everyone new batteries just to stop their whining.

The Wii remote is already overpriced at $40, I don't want to think about how much Nintendo would have charged for one with the charging functionality.

Any docking or other battery solution would cost more than the $20 I paid for a charger and set of 4 rechargeable AA batteries. Anyone who says it's too hard to manage a simple battery swap must also have loads of trouble tying their shoes in the morning. I'd still suggest rechargeable batteries... and velcro kicks.

How about this, wiimote battery pack with direct usb plug so you could charge directly from the ports on the back of the console:

@13 - The back of the pack looks ugly because it also functions as a rubber grip, to stop the remote slipping out of your hand.

You caould always just use Lithium Batteries. I placed Lithtiums in my Wii-mote when the inluded crappy Hevey Duty batteries died after about 2 weeks worth of Zelda and Rayman (2 weeks after launch) and I haven't had to change them since. The Wii still shows they have a full charge and that's after almost 2 months of playing.

Lithium batteries rock.

#27 is right. Batteries won't last long if you keep charging them and don't let them drain first. Recharging is pretty brutal on the battery and the less you charge it, the longer it will last. That's the problem with all these suckers busting the battery in their iPods. They keep recharging without any discharge. All rechargable batteries except lead acid batteries will suffer from this effect. In fact, for the best longevity, It's best if you charge your battery up to 80 percent and don't let it drop below a 20 percent charge.

BTW, to those people who mentioned the 15 minute chargers for AA batteries. Those chargers are REALLY brutal on batteries. For best results, you might want to find a charger that has a variable charge rate and charge your batteries at 500ma. It will take a lot longer than 15 minutes but your batteries will last you a long time if properly used.
