Final Fantasy XIII release date confusion (remains confusing)

PlayStation Universe is reporting that Final Fantasy XIII has been confirmed for release in 2008. The news is based on an interview with Tetsuya Nomura (Director of Final Fantasy Versus XIII), which appeared in the January 19 issue of Japan's Famitsu magazine (the cover of which we've photographed here to make Joystiq prettier). Closer inspection of the interview reveals that Nomura simply made the following statement with regard to Versus XIII:
"We're planning to have the final in-game graphics prepared at some point during 2007, so please wait for that -- and then we can speak about Versus XIII in more detail."
In light of that, a 2007 release for Versus XIII does seem unlikely, we admit, although not impossible. Release timings for Final Fantasy XIII and Agito XIII are not mentioned, though, and in the latest issue of Famitsu (February 9) all three games are still listed as having "unconfirmed" release dates.

The game will come out when the 3D cutscenes are done, jeez. Oh, and the in-game graphics they will release in 2007 will be the in-game graphics of the 3D cutscenes.

I don't know why they are kidding themselves, the game will not be ready in entirety until late 2008 at the earliest in Japan. We shouldn't expect the game in NA until 2009, and who knows when in Europe.

Okay, let's just forget about this game for a year. Don't waste its flavor with premature hype. Did they say when the 360 version will release?

I can't believe I bought a PS3...just for this game...can it really be worth it?
It scares me that the warranty will be expired before this game comes out. Sony products have not fared well for me in the last 7 years, but they always get games I want to play. Grr...

I've been playing Final Fantasy III DS since Christmas, almost every day (still only 3/4 done, grrr)
But yes, at the rate we can expect Final Fantasies to be released, IF sony bets on this game to save them (I doubt they are), then it'll come too late to save them

This game would save them, I think they released the PS3 waaaay too early, they needed this game to start it all, I mean im moving towards the wii now...but ima hardcore sony man, hope they dont go under before they release this bad boy :/

You know they should take another year or two off, like they did between 6 and 7 if they really want to make big bucks(and hopefully a worthwhile game unlike the pile of MMO-wannabe crap that was FFXII).

They only make final fantasy games for that sony console they won't make it for that stupid ass 360 they only made it for the online which was FFXI
So shut the fuck up about it...
And stop hating on final fantasy if you loved playing the old ones why make a fit about the upcoming one.. God you guys act like a couple of babies...
If you don't want to wait for this then stop looking up on the release dates of the game..
Just shut it and play your stupid ass 360's
And stop asking for it on 360 BECAUSE IT WON'T COME OUT FOR IT OK!!
