During my Junior year of college, my girlfriend and I graffiti'd trogdor the burninator all over our campus.

It was gone the next day, as the university didn't want to look bad in front of all the democratic bigwigs that were stopping by to makes speeches the next day.

Nwice! I wish we had Nintendo art when i was in school, not that I'm any more disappointed that we didn't. It doesn't seem any different working bitmap images into a a hexagonal grid instead of the usual square grid.

Clearly, Gears of Wars wall art is much more realistic. I don't see how anyone can look at THAT and call it art.

"campus authorities say they plan on washing the chalk off the walls 'as soon as possible.'"

That's standard for all campuses it seems. Here at LSU, if the authorities find out about chalk anywhere, they've got someone out with a hose as soon as possible. At one time (I used to be involved with many quad "chalkings"), they had police patroling at night around the quad.

This totally inspires me! I've been looking at sprites now to see which ones I want to do.

Also in the article, they interview that guy who says he'd rather see the art in non-spontaneous places that the University has sanctioned. Sanctioned graffiti is an oxymoron.

Every fall at my school there's "chalk day" where buckets of sidewalk chalk are put out and the students are encouraged to go out and draw things on the buildings and sidewalks.

This year's highlights were an expansion of Pi that went all the way around campus and then into the lake, and a giant Mario on the side of the library.

I would have to agree with #18, UNCC does rock! You know the sad part about the Mario art is if the cops find them they will press charges for vandalism. That is some screwed up sh*t! Oh and mike, Charlotte basketball doesn't suck, we are just in the mist of a rebuilding year. We will definitely be better next year.

When it rains it will go away, talk about a lame college. They will have to hire someone to remove the CHALK that no one cares about? Talk about lame.

The artist is still at it. There's a Luigi now and much more to come. More pics here http://www.flickr.com/photos/erby/sets/72157594484262463/ .

I like it too, but to be fair, you can't just have folks running around chalking up the school as they like. It would invariably lead to controversial images and trouble in general.

First of all, "The Niner" is not the school newspaper, The University Times is, and what you are actually linking to is Niner Online, the online counterpart to The University Times.

Secondly, they did wash all of the drawings away and I find that to be completely ridiculous. I also think that the fact that the head of the art department said that he doesn't appreciate public art being a surprise was ridiculous. Must everything be planned out? Isn't that part of what makes art so amazing? The spontinaity?

Of course, this just backs up my theory that UNCC is pretty...well...awful, but since I'm already on my third year, I'm just not seeing a transfer in my future. What can ya do.

They should have left them. They really made a POSITIVE impact on this hellhole of a campus.
