Mega Man meets Pedobear in an ASCII duel to the death
The original Mega Man series is well regarded as one of the most challenging sets of 2-D action titles around. What kept them outside the realm of hair pulling madness is the logic found within the design. Spikes are bad and should be avoided. Falling in a pit is worse and running endlessly to the right is the path to victory. Jinsei Owatta No Daibouken ("My Life Is Over's" Big Adventure) is what happens when you throw all known Mega Man conventions out the window and design a game built for sheer masochistic pleasure. With ASCII graphics and 2Channel flavor, it was one of our favorite gaming fixes this weekend.
We'd like to extend this delightful challenge to you, the Joystiq readers, as it provides just the type of brain training your gaming mind needs on this Monday morning. Only instead of doing multiplication tables, you'll be trying to figure out just how to get over that first jump and how to keep Zangief from crushing your tiny ASCII frame. Keep in mind that the game has yet to be completed, so once you finally make your way to those iconic "boss" gates, the game is over.
After you're done beating yourself up, be sure to check out our video play through after the break.

I laughed when the floor came up.
Cried when the ceiling fell.
I hate this game.

God, that game is brilliant. I love how your own shot, bounced from a wall, will kill you too.

Zangief? I'm pretty sure that's Guile, my good friends :P
Yes, that was a very... very random diversion, and I thank you for pointing it out. However, I notice your playthrough video there missed a few nifty screens... hint: it's very possible to actually get to the left on the first screen.

WHAT THE SHIT? JOYSTIQ READS 4CHAN?
Jared @ Jan 29th 2007 6:45AM
#3 - Look again. Right after you pass up Guile, that would be Zangief falling from the sky in the classic 2FP position.
And the song was ending, so I had to pick and choose for the video ;D

Awwww yeah big ups to the Minibosses. I've seen those homies live about 5 times. They truly rock the hell out of Mega Man 2, Contra, and the sewer level from Blaster Master, and many others. Czech out their .mp3s everybody.
Judd @ Jan 29th 2007 8:53AM
A few things:
You don't need to go right to fight the giant animal at the beginning, that only seems like a diversion. I've been VERY close to making it to the left side before the blades fell on the first screen. Author X could you tell me how to do it? Actually the only hard part if you know where the traps are, is that first screen. After you fall down past the monster it's pretty easy.
At the start, you could jump on the ledge, fall back to the right, and then fall down. If you keep on holding the left arrow, you can avoid the monster's attack.
And for those who couldn't find out the buttons. Z=Jump X=Attack. Left and right arrows are directions. And Up arrow is to climb. Also the O and F keys seem to do things, but they don't seem to have a use yet.

I got to the left of the first screen, but there is this cat that punches back your bullets o_O, what you have to do is jump on the ledge, jump back, jump on it again, and when it's at it's farthest point if you time it well and jump you can make it
k0sm0s @ Jan 29th 2007 11:59AM
yes.. i completed.. ya its possible to get to the left of the screen.. hint is the center spikes: wad do they do after they rush up.. I HATE THE HOVERING PLATFORM PART!!

Finally did it,and I found an easier way. Basically all you have to do is land on the very edge of the left edge, before the contraption falls down. Then walk just enough to the left to set off the trigger. As soon as this happens jump to the right, but land to the left on top of the fallen trap. It's not hard as it sounds.
And for an extra easter egg, try climbing on top of the fallen trap.

Umm, no, spikes and pits were equally bad. Bad Joystiq, go play more Megaman 2&3!
