SimCity DS footage to drool over
EA of Japan's upcoming SimCity for the Nintendo DS has been looking good, via screenshots ... now we have video to go with it. The goodness of SimCity combined with the uber-portability of the DS? The system seems tailor made for this game, what with the dual screens, the touch function, and the ... Nintendo-ness of making your own little tiny cities. Wrap this all up in a bundle with all the the different shades of the DS and you'll make a fortune. You hear that retailers? Please, feel free to steal from Joystiq's bag of ideas.
What's hard to buy is that they haven't announced a US version yet. What gives, EA?
[Thanks, J]

This is the reason why I didn't buy the SNES SimCity on the VC.

Looks decent, not sure how much patience I'll have for sitting down and dedicating time to play it though, we'll see I suppose. Now, a next-gen version of SimCity for the Wii with the pointer would be ideal... =)

Is that Will Wright????
Oobgarm @ Jan 30th 2007 8:50AM
NEED.

I have been playing SimCity 2000 on my touchscreen Pocket PC PDA for years (there is a classic SimCity for PalmOS).
Still will buy the DS version though. This look slick.

This is what I've been dreaming of. I love SimCity and I'm all about portable games. The last DS game I will ever need, heck, maybe last game ever (except for the next version of SimCity or spore).

Wow! That really does look cool!
Loque @ Jan 30th 2007 9:40AM
Bah. too small of a screen for my sprawling city. PC for me.

What's more interesting is that most of the text (except for the advisor - and that IS Will Wright, AFAICT) is in English.
Then again, if you've played SimCity 3000 (the clear source of this game) more than a few times in the past eight years you'll probably have no problem figuring things out in any case.
Still. EA. Seriously. Bring this home. We might grudgingly respect you again.

Looks perfect for those mid-day breaks.
Come on EA! We have demand!

Hummm... this might be the game that saves me from selling off my DS. :)

Why must they torture us! Why must they make us suffer so!

don't need simcity since I have been done on simcity 300 on pc. I'm start in mood to get SimCity 4 for Mac.
Tim UF @ Jan 30th 2007 10:13AM
I'd pick up a copy of that for the business trips!
a ds is sure to have better battery life than my laptop running simcity 4... right?
and theres only so much mario ds i can take!

Love the little talking head of Will Wright. LOL
ThrustinJ @ Jan 30th 2007 11:05AM
This is why I bought a DS; I want games just like this. Bring on Roller Coaster Tycoon as well. Hell, even Zoo Tycoon for all I care.
I like touch games, but if you need precision and speed to do it, like the impossible Trauma Center, it will sit in my bag and never get played.
(Yes I own TC, yes I hate it)
Crono @ Jan 30th 2007 11:15AM
ThrustinJ, you must have Zero hand-eye co-ordination if you think TC is impossible, or requires alot of precision.
The only thing that sucks on that game is the magnifier. If you're stuck on a magnifier level, then all is forgiven.
Neccy @ Jan 30th 2007 12:07PM
Wasnt this already covered on joystiq previously? Or is this Deja Vu again?
David @ Jan 30th 2007 12:25PM
This game ran like shit on every computer. You could have a state of the art computer for the time and it was still slow and laggish. So on the DS it shouldn't have any issues.

Some levels can take a few tries to get down, but other than that- there's nothing impossible about the game. Sure, the game's certainly challenging... but that's what makes it addictive and worth replaying.
As far as the magnifying glass... It's not very consistent, but if you draw a square (rather than a circle) it seems to work about 95% of the time.

Uh,uhh.. no way! The DS can never capture the same submersive game experience without the patches and expansion packs that SimCity puts out to improve gameplay quality.
I've said this before and i'll say it again: SimCity gameplay is meant to be experienced on a PC! Period!
