512 MB Memory Unit listed on Gamestop

Back in early December we reported a 256 MB Memory Unit being listed on Gamestop. Apparently, the same page now lists the card as being 512 MB, double the capacity of the previously unconfirmed accessory. This definitely can support the rumors of the new 250 MB cap for arcade titles and even the 450 MB limit that needs Microsoft's approval. The $49.99 price tag isn't that bad, for those that utterly oppose buying a hard drive for their 360. With the 20 GB alternative out of the equation, ten bucks for eight times the storage is an obvious steal. So would you pick one up if your 360 is a Core, or your profile is on the go between Xboxes?

As a college gamer, I go to a lot of LAN Parties within the dorms, so having a litle more memory for the road would be much welcomed.

I still think the price is too high, at least as it stands right now. I can pick up 512 megs on a thumbdrive from staples for less than 20 bucks. 512 for 39.99 would be much more palatable.

Yeah, it's nice to have more space, but seriously, 512Mb? That's it? I have a 1Gb SD card for my Wii and MS can't utilize the same flash technology to create a larger memory unit for their super console? Bullshot.

Sorry for the noob question - but I just got my 360 for christmas.

Why would anyone buy this? Why wouldn't they just use a $20 USB thumb drive if they needed portable storage?

512 is a joke.
Compared to what is becoming standard 2-4 gig flash drives now the memory card is way to big. and to upgrade to just 512mb is basically insulting to the buyers.
half the price of a just 20 gig hdd. I mean, how does this make since? 100 bucks for the 20 gig hdd is still way too much, but damn, to insult buyers buy saying hey buy this 512mb card for half the price of our overpriced hard drive.

Because a standard memory card won't be recognized as valid storage for things like saves and profiles.

I have a card (I bought the core edition when it was the only one I could find). It's actually handy to be able to keep your profile on it, and any game saves you generate playing at a friends or something. I just take issue with the stingy space and stupid price.

Why didn't I get hired to write here?

You know the memory card is kind of useless and "last gen". I'd have much rather had 4 USB ports on the front of the 360 and use flash drives/then 2 USB, 2 Memory Card Slots. Everyone I know that has bought one kind of regrets buying it because we just play each other on Live more than going to each others house.

David Dreger, please fix this. It's driving me insane.
