Moscow's Lineage II meet up murder
The Moscow Times reports that according to Moscow police, a man attempting to break up a fight between two Lineage II players in the real world was killed when one of the men stomped him to death. Alexander Blyoskin, 22, died trying to stop members of two rival Lineage II clans from hurting each other during a meet up in a Moscow café Jan 12. The two men were allegedly posting negative statements about each other on Lineage forums and when meeting each other in person decided to take their differences outside.Statements differ about what happened outside. Some witnesses say Blyoskin hit his head on the ground after being punched and others say Alexander Ponamorenko stomped on his head after he fell on the ground. Ponamorenko has been formally charged with the beating death of Blyoskin and faces 15 years in prison.

My God, that's sad.
Zen @ Jan 31st 2007 9:21AM
Did he drop any good loot?
Alex @ Jan 31st 2007 9:28AM
That line has moved so far past irony I can't even begin to comprehend it. Possibly people will one days write theses about it.
Myke @ Jan 31st 2007 9:35AM
Jack Thompson just got another 4 years of work out of that.
D dogg @ Jan 31st 2007 9:36AM
It's not about being right or wrong Zen, it's just bad taste... period.
It's easy to say, "Why can't 2 countries get along instead of killing each other" but it's obviously more difficult than that when people kill each other over opinions / comments regarding a video game.
I agree Alex, VERY SAD.
grable @ Jan 31st 2007 9:39AM
Wow, some people realy take their pleasure a bit to seriously.
dmbrandon @ Jan 31st 2007 9:58AM
@Zen and people hazing him.
It's old, welcome to games. That was the first forum post to the tragic funeral raid in WoW.
And it's funny because the russians get in the news for this. No one blinked an eye when that Korean kid shot up an entire family for some kid ganking his chest piece in L1
Alex @ Jan 31st 2007 9:48AM
Myke: I would be surprised if Russia was on Jack Thompson's radar. That might be unfair, but so is he.
Alex @ Jan 31st 2007 10:03AM
I'm not hazing. I honestly don't know if that's in bad taste, or whether it's some kind of gaming salute to the dead. Maybe it's just nothing.

Alex: Bringing sophistication to Joystiq like pissing in the wind. ;)
I hear what you're saying, though.
RODNEY @ Jan 31st 2007 10:19AM
2 nerds kill each other
we're suppose to care
Cry me a god damn river
Seriously, this isn't like a 10 year old dying
this is two fuck wits who couldn't get along
and fought about a game
DrkMatter @ Jan 31st 2007 10:26AM
@12: Learn to read, please.
The person who died wasn't the one wishing to fight over Lineage 2. I was the one who tried to stop the other two from fighting. He certainly wasn't the "twit" of the bunch.

And yet no-one blames the Vodka.
Grunge @ Jan 31st 2007 10:29AM
@Rodney
If you had read the article (or are capable of reading at all) the person who died wasn't a gamer - he was just some random person trying to break up their fight.
Vidikron @ Jan 31st 2007 10:31AM
@ Rodney
Read the damn article. It's not the "2 nerds" that died. The person killed was someone that tried to break up their fight.
Judd @ Jan 31st 2007 11:22AM
A guy stomped someone else's head to death and the most he can get is 15 years? Wow, Russia has some pretty lax laws.
Stubbs @ Jan 31st 2007 11:41AM
This is really, really sad, but the worst is, probably, that this isn't the first time that this have happened... I remember reading an article a few years back about a gamer that stabbed another gamer to death with a sword(NO JOKE!!), because the victim stole a virtual sword from the killer in a MMORPG(STILL NOT JOKING!!)...
I wonder how many killings will happen with WoW....? Raids possibly??
Come on people.....they're just games!!
you know @ Jan 31st 2007 1:55PM
its because of the wii.
snatch @ Jan 31st 2007 4:02PM
PK!!
JoseMiguel @ Jan 31st 2007 2:33PM
So he's just thrown away 15 years of his life if convicted.
God I hate people like that, fighting over internet crap. That's just sad.
On another note I chuckled when I read this on the inquirer.
"Let it be known moscow is not PvP zone"
Quando @ Feb 1st 2007 5:01PM
You notice how everyone in this story is named Alex?
Also, Russians will fight about a lot of stuff, including games. I dont really understand why he was trying to stop the fight. Unless he took a particularly unlucky fall, he was obviously outpowered by the fighters. If he got stomped on, thats just vicious and the Ponomarenko guy should rot.
It is sad, but I am not surprised.

It really did happen!
Stubbs @ Feb 1st 2007 5:42AM
How is this the Wii's fault...? If you should blame anything you should blame NCsoft! There was no mentioning of any Nintendo products in the article, or in any of the comments!
