Even better X. By the time the PS3 version is released the 360 version can probably be had for half the price. It's like that for EA boxing game.

Isn't that nice. Pay more for the console and then be treated to overpriced old ports.

This game blew San Andreas out of the water. As expected the graphics and physics were far better, but the gameplay was the biggest change.

Better missions, better minigames, better customization, and far better control. The combat system was lightyears beyond anything Grand Theft Auto had done, and continues to be miles beyond any similar games on the 360.

The humor wasn't nearly as good, it fell flat more often than not, but the plot was better.

The first game to give GTA a run for its money, also managed to be the first to destroy it. Yes, it's a clone, but they perfected many of the massive flaws of GTA. So it's less a clone like Multiplicity and more a clone like FEAR, where they cloned and genetically engineered to make far superior.

You know, I didn't have to read the comments to know what people were going to say. Now, if this were a ps3 game being ported, we all know what tune you'd all be singing.
Third party exclusives are so last-gen.

Even if Recistence gat ported no onw would of care because it been out for a couple of months, when a game's hype wear off its difficult to generate it again.

And yet if MGS4 comes out on the 360 within 8 months of the PS3 release the MS fanboys will praise the heavens. Double-standard much?

@MosquitoControl

Scarface came before Saints I believe, and beats GTA at virtually everything.

Plus, it's the first game I've ever played that was seriously, honestly 'R' rated. GTA was a cartoon in comparison.

Saint's Row was fun....it had great missions, some funny moments, and solid controls. It was actually the first "GTA clone" that I enjoyed....

But I think Crackdown is going to top them all....even the last couple GTA's (although GTA 3 is still king). The demo for Crackdown is amazing...played it about 6 times already....still having fun.

It's good that PS3 will be getting one of the more solid games on 360....but by that time there will be better games in the genre (ie Crackdown) already out for 360.

You might have to wait a little longer for PS3 system/games, but you get to play more and don't have to decide between as many games so it's better.

my question is: where's all the negative spin? usually, when a PS3 game is brought to the 360 also, joystiq has a field day with how this means certain doom for Sony and the Playstation?

i guess it doesn't matter for the X Box 360, right?

and have any of you bothered to notice that, now that the Playstation 3 is actually out, most multi-platform games have a simulatenous release date?

Assassin's Creed, GTA4, Haze, EA games, Activision games, Blacksite: Area 51, etc.

the reason why the PS3 is getting early 360 games late is because the hardware wasn't out there. i guarantee that if the 360 launched a year after the PS3, it'd be getting ports of early PS3 games also, with newer games sharing a simultaneous release.

i also love how a game that you guys were creaming your pants for when it was on the 360 suddenly sucks, now that it's coming to a competitor. a good game is a good game, regardless. i'm not saying Saint's Row is good (i think it's okay), but it's a decent early adopter game until the real deal (GTA4) comes out. besides, it's just one more game on the lacking software PS3, something that joystiq and you guys never fail to comment on either.

this site, and most of it's commenters, are pathetic. you guys just can't stand to have positive Sony news. it's like being back in grade school in this place.

You know, as much as I'm critical of Sony, I think a bit of a double-standard has developed. If 360 gets a game late that first appears on the PS3 it's somehow a sign that developers are jumping ship, but if the PS3 gets the game after the 360 does then it's just "The PS3 getting the 360's scraps". I own a 360 and no PS3 so I'm the farthest thing from a fanboy, but I think we need to sit back and realize that having faith in the PS3 selling well enough to release a game that IS over a year old and still make a profit isn't exactly a BAD sign for the PS3...

Seeing the logic from the 360 crowd on this one, I guess VF5 going to the 360 means nothing at all.

You know, if they really had a hard on to move another 20,000 units, they could have just made the thing a platinum hit for the 360.

It doesn't seem like a good use of resources putting it out for the PS3 at this point.

It sure seems that way, doesn't it.

Seems like typical Xbox 360 fanboy reactions ...

The Game comes out and 360 fans say it is way better than GTA and are praising it like it is the best thing since sliced bread.

Today it is officially announced to be coming to the PS3 and now the 360 fanboys reactions have turned from saying this game was better than GTA into saying how badly it sucks. Pretty childish IMO.

And to the people who are laughing at the fact that it is coming to the PS3 a year later...

Well, what did you expect? The PS3 just came out.

"I guess VF5 going to the 360 means nothing at all."

It really doesn't. However, perception is everything. Sony is "the king," and any time a blow is struck against them, it means more. The 360 is the underdog, so whenever a minor victory is gained there...you get the idea.

VF5 by itself isn't a huge deal, but VF5, Guitar Hero 2, Resident Evil 5, etc...those definitely add up over time.

Saint's Row? Fantastic game that did a ton of things right that GTA never addressed. It's a shame that most review sites were too afraid to give the game the scores it deserved, as they seemed to be gun shy about giving a "copycat" a high score - even if the score was deserved.

Regardless, this may be too little, too late. six months ago, it was awesome...but with Crackdown now offering an alternative (whether it's better or not is up to you) on the 360, and GTA4 really not that far off by the time Saints comes out on the PS3, it's nothing to get all excited over. Still, if you haven't played it and want a GTA game now, it's pretty hard to go wrong. Multiplayer is fun as hell if you can get on a problem-free server. No idea how well it will translate to the PS3.

The PS3 was talked up so long as the future of gaming. It is Resistance, a way overhyped arcade style off-road game, some arbitrary promise that good games will someday come, and a bunch of OLD games. They had an extra year on the PS3. The hardware was finalized. I don't see an excuse for its performance.

Well, since I live in the town where this game is being made and I know a lot of the guys at Volition, I can tell you that right now there are no plans for additional content(that I know of.) As a matter of fact, according to them the PS3 is a bitch to program for and they've been having enough trouble just porting it.

Oh, and also for a good laugh, I thought I'd tell you that for about 3 weeks they tossed the idea around the office of porting it to Wii too. Good times.

I'd just like to say that I own:
Oblivion, Saint's Row, Fight Night R3, Fifa, Kameo, Enchanted Arms, and Call of Duty 3.

and Saint's Row is BY FAR my favorite and most played game of all of them.

Also ANYONE who says GTA is better than Saint's Row is lying. The story in GTA is NOT better, GTAs controls make it BARELY PLAYABLE. I'm saying that as an OWNER of three of them.

MosquitoControl said it just as well as I could have. This game is far from a GTA clone. A game is a clone only if it approximates, but doesn't improve upon, the game it is trying to mimic. Saints Row doesn't fall short of GTA, it blows it away. "clone" is not a good word for it. We need a better word to describe something like this. GTA-Killer is more appropriate. For the people who claim to hate it, try playing it for an hour someday and then go back to San Andreas. You'll never dream how badly GTA is broken until you compare these two games together.

Anyway, more to the point of the article, I would normally laugh when this kind of thing happens, a game going from one console to another, but in this case, I'm happy about it. I don't think Saints Row enjoyed anywhere near the sales that Volition expected, which ironically is due to the fact that it looks so much like a GTA clone. The game's biggest strength, the fact that it one-ups one of the best selling game series of all time, is also its biggest detriment; it looks just like one of the best selling game series of all time. Too many people have written it off because of that. Having this game appear on more than one console can only mean more profit for Volition, which means it's more likely we'll get a sequel. I'm ALL FOR IT.
