The game looks awesome, I can't wait. The Unreal Tournament games have always been excellent.
MoonfirePewPEwPEw @ Jan 31st 2007 12:10AM
Nice.
William @ Jan 31st 2007 12:13AM
Wait... To control deep space miner violence they make a freaking exhibition where u kill each other. How is that helping anything? And jesus if its in the future surely there are better ways to deal with it. They could have at least thought of a better plot....
Albo @ Jan 31st 2007 12:25AM
My God this looks awful. The bits of that which were actually gameplay footage looked so stale. The 90s were pretty fun, guys, but it's time to move on...
SSBR @ Jan 31st 2007 12:24AM
Gears of what?

rawker @ Jan 31st 2007 12:53AM
ya.. that story looks rather um lame, and y r they trying to put a real story in a UT game? the graphics look all right, but nothing spectacular, it looks better than the over used bloom in Gears.
Nick Simpson @ Jan 31st 2007 12:58AM
This is what you point to when people complain all games are are made up of blacks and browns and blur. I actually wouldn't have noticed its contrast to games like GoW if it weren't for the surprisingly dark environments. I don't remember previous UT games being so dark.
Tyler @ Jan 31st 2007 1:46AM
@2&6
Hi, you must be new to the unreal tournament series.....
smarterray @ Jan 31st 2007 2:09AM
2 & 6 make me feel old.
Also, I prefer the Quake series over the UT series. It is the purest dm/tdm/ctf I know. Also, Rocket Arena 3 was perfect for 1v1 and tdm.
Shibathedog @ Jan 31st 2007 8:07PM
Storyline? Who CARES!? Its Unreal Tournament, You run around and blow the shit out of everything! I am more of a Quake guy myself, and enjoyed the storyline for Quake 4. But at the same time i was okay with Quake 3 having pretty much no storyline. And im also very much looking forward to this game (and not the 800 dollars ill have to spend on a graphics card for it)
Dave @ Jan 31st 2007 2:39AM
Haha... how funny to people thinking the plot is lame... that's the same plot from the original UT game way back when.... except it was a chick that spoke it last time.
Looking forward to seeing how this game out, i'm an old school UT nut, but never got into 2004...
SymetriX @ Jan 31st 2007 2:41AM
Unreal Tournament 1 FTW! Colorful, great gameplay, and FUN.
There's even plenty of people *still* playing it:
http://archive.gamespy.com/stats/mods.asp?id=35&s=1
And it's no surprise that the top game is still CTF, I can't think of any game that has a better CTF than Unreal Tournament 1. And don't say UT 2004--the maps are so big I felt like I was playing Tribes!
Cristopher Boyer @ Jan 31st 2007 3:04AM
I miss UT1. That and vanilla Half Life DM, I had more fun playing than any other FPS games.
AzaMcWazza @ Jan 31st 2007 4:43PM
Yeah looks good. Now if they'd get their shit together and make a version of their engine for Wii then finally console players would start to understand what FPS are really like. Much better using the Wiimote than a stick.
PapaChabre @ Jan 31st 2007 8:07AM
Since when does plot matter in UT? They shouldn't even try. They should have said "In the future, everyone kills each other in arenas. Soo...get to it."
MrPolarBare @ Jan 31st 2007 8:49AM
Hmm, countdown to me buying a nVidia 8800... I don't know why I got somewhat excited over the trailer, but it just feels like it is time for me to dive into the fast-paced Unreal franchise again. It's been awhile since I put down 2004 (oh, and I had a little blurb with the Liandri conflict on Xbox), but now I am ready to dive back in. I was pleasantly surprised to see how well the new engine looked for GoW on the 360, so I am even more excited to see it on the PC with Unreal and it's adrenaline-like pace.
EezerGoode @ Jan 31st 2007 8:58AM
I agree with #9 on this one. Quake was so simple It made it fun with raw aiming and movement skill the only way in which to win. That and timing for the spawns. Too many hours wasted playing Quake 3, shame the uptake on quake 4 was so poor.
Back on topic, I think the game looks pretty good but it will probably hold my attention for as long as Halo 2 did. Not long :)
potato @ Jan 31st 2007 1:40PM
About the story: That's a reference back to the original story of UT, which granted wasn't much of one. The full explanation is that in the arena Liandri had the technology to download someone's consciousness away from the body a split second before they die, thus explaining respawns and ensuring nobody dies.
I don't think skirmishing deep-space miners would otherwise be so lucky.
But hey, it's UT, story, what?
William @ Jan 31st 2007 10:21AM
@8
Played UT2004. Didn't have a single player. Plus this really looks like its trying to make a plot. And the plot sounds retarded. So explain yourself.
Agent MOO @ Jan 31st 2007 10:34AM
UT 1 was great, I had a lot of fun playing it. The sequels, notsomuch
Crono @ Jan 31st 2007 10:40AM
William, dispite what you may have been lead to believe, but UT2004 wasn't the first UT in the series.
Dig back a few games/years.
JD @ Jan 31st 2007 11:34AM
I'm confused. Those looked like boss characters. Is UT3 turning into some kind of cooperative walk-thru type game?
I agree with the others. This looks awfully dark. The reason I liked UT over Quake was for the bright outdoor environments.
Leggo @ Jan 31st 2007 12:27PM
I've been a bigger fan of the Unreal Championship series, especially the last one. I like the futuristic Egyptian theme and the goth nanotech-reanimated Necris. What's up with that demon-looking Necris race? It's looking like a Quake 4 clone, which is sad. What's the point of putting Tournament in the title?
Tiberius Jones @ Jan 31st 2007 1:08PM
I've never been a HUGE Unreal guy, but damn, this game looks mighty pretty!!!
Anonymous @ Jan 31st 2007 2:09PM
I love it how Epic is "The studio that brought you Gears of War" now, and not "The studio that brought you every Unreal Tournament game you've been playing since your childhood". A couple of people above said that Gears of War had horrible graphics..how big of a Microsoft hater do you have to be to say "Gears of War has horrible graphics" with a straight face? The game has glorious graphics that would make even the most hardcore of gamers weep like little girls. Unreal Tournament III (Or 2007, screw the "III") will have similar graphics, more awesome guns, more varied maps, user created maps and mods, and everyone's favorite weapon.... THE LIGHTNING GUN! (Woooooooooot). So hate all you want, but this game is going to be huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge.
Though I might need to get an 8800GTX to be able to play it at 1080p XD
Crono @ Jan 31st 2007 2:28PM
I hate the lightning gun.
Give me a redeemer.
Josh @ Feb 1st 2007 4:43AM
Maybe I'm old because I know this?
EVERYONE THAT'S COMPLAINING ABOUT PLOT - If you ever played the original UT, it's what the lady says at the beginning. The game is a deathmatch game, not a story-based game. The "plot" is only played out in the beginning, the rest of the game is killing. If you want a plot, this isn't the game for you.
GEARS OF WAR GRAPHICS AREN'T GOOD - wtf are you smoking?
NO SINGLE PLAYER - This is a multiplayer deathmatch game people! Where have you all been?! "Unreal" is the single-player game with a story. "Unreal Tournament" has always been about multiplayer deathmatches, with people and/or bots.
I haven't played it much since UT1. Hopefully this one will be as much fun. Halo 2 (sorry halo haters) has held my attention since it came out.
