Bigger 360 Mem Unit resurfaces, forced back down
GameStop has quietly removed the "Microsoft Xbox 360 Memory Card 512 MB" item from its website, after offering up the upgraded Memory Unit for pre-order yesterday. With news that Xbox Live Arcade titles will soon exceed the prior 50MB limit, come expectations for a new Memory Unit model -- an upgrade from 64MB to 256MB was seemingly confirmed last spring.Either GameStop was acting on a whim, or Microsoft now plans to bump the new MU up to 512MB which, according to the retailer's initial listing could be released as early as March 1 andlikely priced at $49.99. Could that date (early March) also be a clue as to when we can expect Symphony of the Night on XBLA? Don't count on it. But the throwback Castlevania is "approaching."

Where is the throwback Castlevania for the PSP?!? I am dying to play one and i hope that either the PSP will get its own version or maybe they will release the old PS1 game through the Sony Store for play on the PSP and PS3(eventualy).

MS should include this with the Core Version of the 360. It may just warrant the purchase of the Core.
Digi Smalls @ Feb 1st 2007 4:36PM
the Core needs to include the 20gig HD and the premium a 60gig.
RIGHT NOW. while Sony is in the corner. MS is zzzzzzing.

Seriously, I don't see why XBLA has anything to do with a memory card. Don't ruin everyone else's experience because some people think that not buying a premium, saving $100 on the core and then spending another $50 on a memory card is a good idea. Dolts.
For LESS than the price of a new game you could never have to deal with memory saves again.. AND you get a wireless controller. Who wouldn't want that?

I like how people think that Sony somehow has some huge advantage with 60GB vs the 360's 20GB. Seems to me that if you're going to start downloading HD content and games onto the hard drive, that both 20GB AND 60GB are complete crap. You need at least 120GB+ in order to not worry about space, and even that is small with todays prices.

I suggest a MU with no built in memory but a slot for a standard (i.e. SD) flash memory card.
360v2 should support standard flash cards like the Wii/PS3.
Digi Smalls @ Feb 1st 2007 5:18PM
60gig is more than enough for demos, and would just bring 360 to near numerical parity with the more expensive PS3.
120gig with 3 free downloadable movies (since that's its best application)would be the aftermarket accessory.
remember, the 360 ostensibly is a gaming system first, media center/movie player second (and optionally). in sharp contrast to Sony.

Releasing a firmware update to allow generic 2.5" hard drives to be installed, or allowing USB hard drives to be used for saving data would be the real best accessory Microsoft could offer. For free.

I'd prefer if it didn't support other memory because that will just make things easier for the loser Hackers...

Yeah right - i suggest you look up what Bill Gates said before CES and again only this week.. With Vista now out and 10mil 360s in homes - it won't be long now before it's the other way around

What exactly do you need a memory card for when you have a disk drive? Is that to take stuff to a friends?
dsub @ Feb 1st 2007 6:38PM
it exists. you can pre-order it in stores. we've had it in our systems at the EB Games I work at for quite a while now.

There is a benefit to having both a HD and a memory unit. Some games may only allow for one save, such as Dead Rising. Having both, allows for multiple saves. Technically each are portable, but I guess the memory unit is a little easier to transport, if you want to bring your Live account or whatnot over a friend's house.
I do agree though that the Core should be repackaged to come with a 20GB HD and the Premium should have (at least) at 60GB HD. Why the Core came without a hard drive when the original Xbox included a hard drive is beyond me.
Nushio @ Feb 1st 2007 8:13PM
Microsoft should just allow USBs as their input and just forget about memory cards altogether... Even the Nintendo Cash Cows allow for SD cards...

@10 Sorry jake, some of us HAVE friends. I know it's hard for you to understand, but some Xbox gamers do like... Socialise AND play Xbox, sometimes both at the same time. So yeah, portability of saves is always a good thing to have.
