Capcom demos playable Flash version of Phoenix Wright 4
Capcom has come up with a great lunchtime distraction for the bored-at-work: a playable preview version of Gyakuten Saiban 4 in Flash. The DS version of what we'd call Phoenix Wright 4 is still a couple of months away from its Japanese release, so we can only applaud Capcom's generosity here. GUILTY: the dialogue in this demo will be largely incomprehensible to most Western players, as its script is written entirely in Japanese. NOT GUILTY: the music is sublime and manages to convey (without lyrics) how the trial is progressing; this is also the first time we've seen Odoroki-kun (captured here) at the bar. Cheers!

I was playing with it a couple of hours ago and the new soundtrack is still in my head. Nice.

Ace Attorney 4, surely...

You know, given the fact that the last two Phoenix Wright releases in Japan were bilingual Japanese/English releases, and Capcom got big kudos for that, I have to imagine they're going to get a translator working on this Flash game as quick as possible - they probably know full well how well this will go over in English.
We're about one more Phoenix Wright release in the States from seeing him appear as a character in a future Versus fighting game.

32_Footsteps:
The most likely reason the DS remakes of Gyakuten Saiban 1 and 2 had an English language option is an incentive to the owners of the GBA originals to get the DS remakes.
Since GS4 is a DS original, there's a slim chance they'd delay the Japanese release to add English to it (especially since Gyakuten Saiban 3, considered the high point of the series so far, does not have an English version yet).
Plus, there's no way this'd be called Phoenix Wright 4. Although Wright is in the game, he isn't the star (Housuke Odoroki is), therefore, it'd likely be named after him, as well as the "Ace Attorney" line, to keep it marketable with the existing games in the series.
And, just for a bit of trivia (for those who don't know it already):
"Gyakuten Saiban" is Japanese for "Turnabout Courtroom." The DS remake of the first game was called "Gyakuten Saiban: Yomigaeru Gyakuten," which means "Turnabout Courtroom: Revival Turnabout." The DS remake of the second game is simply called "Gyakuten Saiban II," since it adds nothing over the GBA original (aside from the new, DS interface).

Capcom have stated the game is mono-lingual in Japanese only at release in a few months time. Sucks for us, I suppose. We're also uncertian if we'll ever see Gyakuten Saiban 3 onto the DS either. Depends how well Phoenix Wright 2 sells, so go buy it guys! >=(

Anyone know why Phoenix doesn't return for GS4? I'm sure it's been brought up before, but I guess I wasn't paying attention.

Okay, I don't get.
Can someone explain to me exactly what series is about? I've been lost with this franchise since its inception. What kind of game is it and what makes it so great?

Very poor translation: the man in the attack in the first scene is going "Aaaaaaaaa!", and outside the courtroom, the blonde guy says "Ah. Good morning."
That's the limit of my Japanese skills...
some person @ Feb 1st 2007 3:38PM
Phoenix Wright 4 already? What happened to 3?
SlyEcho @ Feb 1st 2007 4:22PM
Spoiler:
First client is Phoenix Wright himself.

Some Person (#7), The Phoenix Wright series started off as the Japan-only Gyakuten Saiban series in Japan. There were three GBA games made. Then the first two DS games were remakes of the GBA games, as well as being the series' first entries into the English market.
SynikaL (#8), the series is about a defense attorney (Phoenix in the first three games, and Odoroki in the fourth game) who is able to turnabout a case, no matter how big the odds are stacked against him.
The games have brilliant writing, flawlessly switching between drama and comedy, and does have its fare share of cultural references and punny names (the same is true for the Japanese versions).
Love them or hate them, nearly all of the characters of the games are memorable.
The gameplay is very reminiscent of old, text-based adventure games. You go around to various landmarks, looking for evidence relevant to the case, as well as asking people for clues. Then in the courtroom, you cross-examine witnesses. Pressing them for more details, or presenting contradictory evidence.
Phoenix Wright is a tough game to like just from reading about it. You really have to play it to get it.

Blah. Stupid double post. X_x
Sensai @ Feb 1st 2007 4:59PM
TRI-TRI-TRIPLE POST!?!
So, 1 and 2 were Japanese GBA games, released later as Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney 1 and 2...
Where the hell is the third one? It's obviously been released in Japan (as they're a few months from the 4th one), so how long until it gets over here?
Sensai @ Feb 1st 2007 5:35PM
Are we sure he doesn't? I mean, maybe the first trial (the tutorial) is just someone else?
I'm just hoping...I really enjoy Phoenix, and I don't think I'd get the game (oh who am I kidding?) if it were anyone else. I want the same characters as always.
And Phoenix Wright 3 was also for the GBA, only for Japan like the first 2. There are currently no plans for it to be ported to a DS game.
