Darwinia upgrades for Vista
Introversion, the little game maker whose project Darwinia garnered them cult status, has just released an enhanced version specifically for Windows Vista. The upgrade has been in the making since June 2006, according to Introversion co-founder Chris Delay. Upgrades include:- Shift from OpenGL to DirectX, which enable enhanced visuals such as "screen warping explosion effects, reflective water, and Darwinian soul 'auras.'"
- Support for the Xbox 360 controller
- Three new levels: Jailbreak, Stronghold and Doomsday
- Other Vista-centric compatibility features
Introversion is currently working on a double secret title codenamed Subversion.

What about us lowly XP users? Are we getting upgrades too, or what?

I hope this is a sign that Darwinia will show up on Xbox Live Arcade sometime soon.

Have you played it? Didn't think so. Great little indie game that, i should note, is on sale at Target for, like, $10. Schweet, if you ask me/

Apparently they missed the newsletter that stated that OpenGL has already had the capability to do these things? Either way, it's a sad day when an indie firm gets paid to switch.

this game has a nice graphical style but it really wasn't that fun. the gameplay was too slow for my tastes.

Update? All I see is:
- Convert to Direct X
- Map controls to Xbox 360 controller
Agenda:
- Port to Vista
- Port to XBLA
And as Korova said earlier, "Does anyone care at all?"

Yeah, I do.
And if you ever took a break from playing The Sims 2, you'd realize that there are good games out there, such as Darwinia.

I'm pretty sure they added those things when switching to DirectX because they could do it without sacrificing frame rate/without much optimization.
