Conan takes on Serena in Wii Tennis
What should you do when you have a former World Number 1 ranked tennis player on your late night talk show? Challenge her to Wii Tennis, of course! That's what Conan O'Brien decided to do last night when he had Serena Williams on as a guest. We caution the little ones to avoid direct eye contact with O'Brien's scantily-clad body, as the sheer paleness reflects light and can blind you. Look closely and you'll see that the production team made Miis of the host and guest.
We won't give away the final score, but it was a close game. Video embedded after the break.
[Thanks, Sam]

i love everything about him.

Hysterical. I should've brought my sunglasses.
Kevin @ Feb 2nd 2007 10:35AM
Awesome video, I love how the way Conan is all hype up. Yet, if you look carefully, they aren't Wii Straped. The way Conan was swinging away, he could have killed someone. Conan was more passionate about it than Serena and still lost, lol. Keep these Wii gameplay footage coming.
Odowla @ Feb 2nd 2007 3:08PM
Conan is the funniest guy with a talk show.
Szu @ Feb 2nd 2007 10:39AM
OMG, Conan is actually whiter than the shirt that he was wearing.
KidRichard @ Feb 3rd 2007 11:55AM
I love it. I never get tired of Conan.
DrJay @ Feb 2nd 2007 10:43AM
Colbert then Dr. Phil now Conan o'Brien...
Is there no stopping the Wii?
All this mainstream media exposure will make it harder to find!
Szu @ Feb 2nd 2007 10:51AM
@3
Um, Conan won.
faboo @ Feb 2nd 2007 10:52AM
they forgot to put the straps on... it would have been even more funny if Conan accidently let go of the remote.
Jeff @ Feb 2nd 2007 10:42AM
It's like the kind of thing they do on a Japanese talk show. Wish we had more of this kind of thing here. (I used to watch Conan and I know he does lots of little skits, but it's rare to see hosts actually challenging their guests to games or physical tasks in the name of comedy here.)
Grunge @ Feb 2nd 2007 10:42AM
Okay, I see what's happening here. Nintendo is hogging all of the good press. And why? What do they gain through the use of their good press siphon? They don't even have any on the shelves!
Grunge @ Feb 2nd 2007 10:46AM
"All this mainstream media exposure will make it harder to find!"
Harder than impossible??
Luis Chamorro @ Feb 2nd 2007 10:48AM
Now that was some funny stuff...except the stripping part (AAHHHHH!!!!!!).
silkylove @ Feb 2nd 2007 10:55AM
lol. This should be good for another million Wii sales. If Nintendo is smart they'll sponsor Williams and a few other known tennis players:)
Dadidito @ Feb 2nd 2007 10:55AM
Nintendo must have sacrificed many gamecubes at the alter of the gaming gods. NOTHING goes wrong for them on the WII. This is the best advertising possible. Can not get any better than this. Thinking of becoming another Wii360 fanboy. (Love my 360)As if I could find one...
faboo @ Feb 2nd 2007 11:20AM
@7 don't forget, Ellen Degeneres. she gave away a Wii before it was even sold to the general public. she gave it to some teenager who was blind and used echolocation to navigate.

Conan? What there's no Wii Skiing?
GhaleonQ @ Feb 2nd 2007 11:18AM
Avenge Hingis and Sharapova, Conan! Avenge them!
Farseer @ Feb 2nd 2007 11:18AM
Did you see those dangling wrist straps? They were promoting irresponsible Wii usage! Somebody needs to sue someone over this.
fox619_master @ Feb 2nd 2007 12:26PM
OMG. I live in England and we get barely any sunlight and im darker than him, but im from the med so maybe that helps
WaffleTron @ Feb 2nd 2007 12:57PM
and then of course, South Park was promoting it a week before it was even out.
John @ Feb 2nd 2007 1:26PM
I saw that on Conan last night, I thought it was awsome and told a bunch of friends to tune to the channel to watch seriena get her ass kicked haha lol.
Slaziman @ Feb 2nd 2007 1:17PM
I would've kicked both those losers asses.
koheed @ Feb 2nd 2007 1:19PM
I saw this last night and laughed my ass off. Although, I was a bit disappointed with the Conan Mii.
hoos30 @ Feb 2nd 2007 1:36PM
I've been a Wii skeptic and will remain a Wii skeptic, but aside from the asinine Friendcodes, Nintendo has done everything exactly right for the past 2 to 3 years.
Revo @ Feb 2nd 2007 1:40PM
@ Grunge
You're making it sound like the Wii shortages are due to low supply when they're actually due to high demand. And it sells hundreds of thousands a month, so "impossible" is a bit of an overstatement, I'd say.
jollydwarf @ Feb 2nd 2007 1:44PM
South Park, The Colbert Report, and now this...good to see that Nintendo is still using this sort of thinly-veiled guerrilla marketing to keep the 'upwardly-mobile', Scrubs-watching crowd interested, well after the holidays.
Please don't tell me that Nintendo isn't 'in' on these stunts.
idioteraser @ Feb 2nd 2007 1:56PM
If I recall Nintendo said they had nothing to do with South Park putting the Wii in the show.
If they had paid or did some kind of deal it would be a matter of record which no one has found. No such guerrilla marketing on the tv.
Instead it was getting soccor moms with blogs to attend wii parties to generate buzz.
Freddy @ Feb 2nd 2007 1:55PM
Serena swings at 125mph, she could have killed some one.
MoonfirePewPEwPEw @ Feb 2nd 2007 2:08PM
"Please don't tell me that Nintendo isn't 'in' on these stunts."
And Sony is using unethical business tactics to help win them the format war, companies do what they can to see that they make money. What is your damn point?
silkylove @ Feb 2nd 2007 2:23PM
"Please don't tell me that Nintendo isn't 'in' on these stunts."
I doubt it.
In other news:
"All I want for Christmas is my PSP" lol

Michael @ Feb 2nd 2007 2:38PM
As somebody on the Youtube comments already mentioned, the reason Serena lost was because she underestimated Wii sports. She never once tried making a backhanded swing, so it's no wonder her swings weren't registering on time.
Jim @ Feb 2nd 2007 2:54PM
Funny.
BUT they didn't wear the safety thingies (and could have smashed the camera). ^^
Ben @ Feb 2nd 2007 2:58PM
Who cares if Nintendo is in on it or not? Has anyone ever watched House, MD? Do you think that it's any coincidence that he plays a game boy all the time, and curiously started playing the DS in the first season of the show right after the DS came out? The difference between Nintendo and Sony is that they don't try to do it in a disingenuous manner like the whole "All I want for Xmas is a PSP." They aren't artificially creating websites with paid actors claiming to be real people, and unnaturally trying to spread it viral over the internet. They are simply placing products and showing how they work. What is wrong with getting people on board with a product by showing it actually being used in a fun and effective manner? Nothing, and Nintendo is not trying to do anything but that. If they are wrong for showing a great product actually functioning in the real world, without any heavy-handed "this is what all the cool people want" BS, then I'd hate for them to be right.
Shagittarius @ Feb 2nd 2007 3:34PM
All this fuss over a game with significantly less gameplay than NES tennis.
People really are clueless...

Can't wait until the comedic genius replaces that clown Leno
StMadnes @ Feb 5th 2007 4:55PM
Conan's so dayum funny with his 'Governator' interviews.
But Serena.. OMG!! I'd have Serena for breakfast, lunch and dinner.. 3X a day! Make me your slave, Serena!!
dsteptoe @ Feb 3rd 2007 5:12PM
What I want to know is... where did he get the second Wii-mote? LOL. Those things are hard to find around here...
LivinaLieTimmah @ Feb 3rd 2007 1:13AM
@Ben
In the new 2/1/07 episode, Dr. House was actually playing a PSP while talking to a patient. Yes. I almost fell off the floor. He had been Gameboy/DS'ing it for quite a while.....until now.
Just sayin'........
Eugene @ Feb 3rd 2007 8:38AM
@ ben & LivinaLieTimmah
Its not THAT big a deal, hes used a PSP a number of times throughout the season...
