Konami announces Dance Dance Revolution: Hottest Party for Wii
35
Perhaps Seizure Party would have been a more appropriate subtitle, as Konami's latest Dance Dance Revolution game will require the simultaneous use of three peripherals: a dance mat, a Wii remote and a Wii nunchuck. The Bemani developer has announced that their decidedly groovy franchise will pay a visit to the Wii, with Dance Dance Revolution: Hottest Party releasing sometime before 2007 keels over from pure exhaustion.
The game will feature all the modes series fans are familiar with, though we expect they really mean it with Workout Mode this time. Konami also encourages players to invite up to three friends for fantastic and potentially dangerous multiplayer stomping, flailing and gyrating. Remember, it's not embarassing if you enjoy it.

That pad better be wireless. And using the hand things better be optional.

Man, I have the feeling this might be even worse than the Eye Toy functionality on the last couple PS2 DDR releases.
Still, if the music is good enough and there is still a mdoe that just uses a pad, I'll end up enjoying it.

Holy shit. That's the first interesting DDR game in a while. I really wanna be using my hands in that, as that's what you do when you dance in reality, use your upper half.

idk,
There was a DDR for PS2 that used EyeToy to pretty much the same extent, and it fairly sucked
Sometimes Wii Remote simply can't improve the action (SORA, developers of Brawl, realize this), and this is a good example of motion for the sake of motion...

I KNEW THIS WAS GONNA HAPPEN. I swear, the day the controller was revealed I was like, "They're totally gonna make a DDR with arm-flail action."
I'm totally getting this.

Is it just me, or does he say "my GUY'S in the next room" instead of "my Girl's" at 48 seconds?

Last I checked Mr. Kahn, the fact that the Wii controls wouldn't help SSBB was the FIRST thing the developers noted. Duh.
And the Eyetoy was terrible, which is why it didn't work. Maybe with the Eyetoy2 but not the original.

How does that have anything to do with a seizure? Or are you just mocking people who have epilepsy? Because it's soooooo hilarious when people have seizure. Nothing funnier than someone's life at risk. What a hoot.

Eyetoy functioned in 2 dimensions. The Wiimote sensing motion in 3 dimensions, giving a more natural feeling to gaming.

Well, more natural in the way of motion sensing.

He meant that the ridiculous amount of input shown or needed would probably induce or resemble a seizure.

Here's a free clue: ANY video game you play makes you look like a total idiot. Anyone saying otherwise is in denial.

According to IGN the game is actually pretty good. And yes, it does use Mario Mix pads.

Have fun using your Mario Mix pads when the pad slips and your Wii comes flying off your cabinet. :-) I have contacted BNS about any planned availability for Wii compatible pads.

@11/Artimus
As someone who suffers from epilepsy, I personally laughed at it. Now when I'm having a fit, someone can just slip me a wiimote and leave me for 10 minutes watching me rack up the scores XD .
This looks like an interesting idea, but I think with the arm movements less will be more, the last thing we need is even faster and less cordinated movement that wii sports. Someone will end up gettings killed.

How would the input work with the Wiimote and Nunchuk? And is it just me or is it somewhat weird that it shows it as a Beginner song, yet plays like a Standard or somewhat Heavy?

What i meant was that the whole concept of both stomping on the mat and moving your arms at the same time just doesn't slice it (even though EyeToy was worse than the Wiimote, the concept is the same: Bad)
A bettter rythm game for the Wiimote would be Samba Di Amigo
Why won't Sonic Team get off thier asses and make that?

I hope this actually requires some skill, unlike the DDR Mario Mix. That was pathetic.
Also, the pads are not wireless; they make use of the Gamecube ports. In fact your Mario DDR pads will work, and that is what the IGN boys used when they tried this. The idea is that you can use four pads, and four remotes all at one time.

The difficulty setting on DDR are crazy.. i never figured them out.. and never really could make the step up from beginner. Beginner was easy, the next level up needed 7 feet (with nunchuck attachments!)

how can anyone compare the eyetoy to the wiimote? the wiimote is superior in every way possible. i'm sure this game will be the best ddr game to date. dancing should be using the whole body; thats why its called dancing. this is the way ddr was meant to be played, and was a natural evolution of ddr. and yes, you can use your mario ddr mats. everyone should read the hands-on ddr wii article from ign. the 4 player coop will absolutely be brilliant. here's hoping a wireless nunchuk will be released before this game......

Well, all I can say is that if that's what the "beginner" mode is like, this game is looking mighty attractive-wiimotes or no wiimotes.
