It's one thing for a new console to have backwards compatibility issues. It's another for it to have self-compatibility issues.

You may not feel that the fixes to the Blu-Ray side are important, but when you have professional magazines calling the PS3 the best Blu-Ray player on the market, Sony is taking their BD playback seriously.

I stopped using my Samsung BDP-1000 because of the PS3 and have been very happy with the quality of the video. Any firmware updates which fixes BD issues is a good firmware in my book.

Wow! Now the PS3 can play more PS3 games! And there's so many wonderful gems to choose from!

/ and the support has just been expanded? Does that mean that it still can't play some P_S_3 games?

WoW Slaziman
Did that just get "copy and pasted" from the MS FUD manual, cause you left the 24 in front of "your" comment. It doesn't really make it look like your comment at all.

Well, well. At least Sony firmware updates don't brick hundreds of thousands of consoles nor do they suffer from overheating problems that cause your console to blink three red lights.

Sony has their $hit together. Microsoft still hasn't properly taken care of the hundreds of thousands of bricked/overheated consoles.

It's actually scary how Sony is just coming in and taking the whole scene over (network play and all!!!) and MS can do nothing but scale back their shipments because of the onslaught of PS3's that people continue to buy in light of all the str8 hating and bullshyte propaganda being spread all over the place by god knows who.

Bring on the updates; Sony is doing it right and yall just need to take a back seat and let the market leader set the precedent for all to follow (as they did with the ps1 and ps2)

The "Support for PLAYSTATION®3 format software titles has been expanded." probably can be seen as how it is on PSP, newer titles requiring 1.51+ ps3s to be able to boot.

I guess someone took his comment off because I don't see it and I guess that's a good thing. Anyway, Sony wouldn't admit that they had a bug in any of thier updates because they want you to believe that MS is the only company that would do that. Just my guess. Hopefully they got the bug fixed.

Could it be that PS3 games might go the psp way and not play unless you have the latest firmware updates?

how big is the homebrew community on PS3 right now?

Do you have to have a high speed internet connection in order to get these updates?

If so there must be some people getting screwed. There have been so many updates already and sure there are still ment to come.

Thank you JesseJames. What a time-saver you are. I don't even have to go to GameFAQs today to get my internet fix for dumbest post of the day.

Thanks again.

Crap. Another update to download before I get to jump into some h4rc0r3 Resistance 40 player action.

Is it the same on the 360 where the system won't let you do ANYTHING net related untill you install their update?

At least the updates tend to be 2-4 seconds automatic as opposed to a cross your fingers approach. And so far most of the people with bricked systems have hacks which is part of the point of the updates. Its to deter cheating. I do feel sorry for the few that don't hack their boxes and still get bricked.

Explanation may be confusin but the proper action was taken, other companies do the exact opposite by givin ppl slick explanations but failing to follow thru w/ proper action. Which is why I stick w/ Sony, I follow those that lead w/ action and not by their wordplay. Now some will say im being hypocritical b/c the machine had issues at launch yadda yadda yadda, but im a grown man and I know life is not perfect, its how u handle those moments when ur down that I look for.

Wow, you are lucky to get such fast downloads. mine take literally hours, and I have a cable modem. By the time they are done, I don't even feel like playing anymore.

What a bunch of ignorant bastards. It's obviously a typo and the compatibility fix is for PS or PS2 games. I agree with JesseJames, you've never heard of updates to the PS3 bricking systems and you don't hear about PS3's overheating either. I have a XBOX 360 and love playing Gears on it but facts are facts. I got the three blinking lights of death only three days after purchasing it, and it wasn't because of overheating either. I had just turned it on that day when it gave me the blinking red lights of death. I took it back to gamestop and had it replaced. Hopefully this will be my last one and I won't have to replace it several times like other people have. So far I haven't had any problems with my PS3 and I don't expect that I will either. How long has the 360 been on the market and they still have problems. Sony is keeping on top of things with the firmware updates, and I think that in it self says a lot about the kind of company that Sony is.

"Do you have to have a high speed internet connection in order to get these updates?"

No.

You can download the file at whatever speed you like.
You can also download the file to a memory card on your PC and take the card to your PS3 to do the update.

You know... as a guy on his fourth 360... this still has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

Yes, firmware updates are nice since they usually fix minor bugs or repair issues from the last update (ala 1.5). Most of the time, they are very minor stuff like fixing the flip pixel issue in BC... etc.

No, a firmware update cannot repair hardware issues. If your PS3 overheats, Firmware 2.02 isn't going to fix that.

Having said that, now that the flipped pixel issue is fixed, but even without upscaling, having four player Twisted Metal Black with little, if any, slowdown is quite nice. Try it sometime. PS3 actually improves the performance of your PS2 games...

Better to have lots of updates than not enough. As they have (mostly) all enhanced a machine I was happy to have in the first place, I welcome them.

I can't wait for some games to come that push the PS3 to its full capabilities. Only then can we truly compare it to the other machines on the market.

As far as Blu-ray playback goes, I'm glad it's in there. MI3 on Blu-ray was awesome, and I would not have spent $1,000 on a standalone player (or $500 on an HD-DVD player for that matter).

I doubt it's a typo, it's probably truly an update to make some PS3 games work better.

For those who would ridicule the idea of PS3 having problems running PS3 games, don't forget about the Xbox 360 dashboard update that was released two months after launch to make it stop deleting Dead or Alive save games.

Bugs happen. I'm almost always glad to see them fixed.
