BUBBA @ Feb 3rd 2007 6:36PM
um...in the video it looks more like Renji's bankai.
Michael R. @ Feb 3rd 2007 6:44PM
I loved the Fanboys comic this week. Although it's probably funnier to those of us who run our own regularly updated comic(s). But then again, that's who it's most likely intended for. So it all works out.
Dig @ Feb 3rd 2007 6:59PM
Nice Joystiq plug F@NBOY$
cheesebanana @ Feb 3rd 2007 7:08PM
@1 Yeh but ichigo's bankai wouldn't have worked with that joke :D
Anyhoo nice video. Reflects just what crap anime is really sometimes...Still frames with animated mouths...and lots of panning :D
I like penny arcade myself. No matter how much i love mario party....its so very very true.
Rahul @ Feb 3rd 2007 7:35PM
I'm just wondering, is the creator of VG Cats, Scott Ramsoomair Indian or what? I think by the last name, he sounds Indian?
fightinfilipino @ Feb 3rd 2007 7:37PM
here's one thing that i hope all joystiq'ers can agree: Ctrl-Alt-Del SUCKS.
Huricos @ Feb 3rd 2007 7:43PM
@6: Certainly these last 2 years.
My vote goes to PA, not because they're the biggest and the most popular, but because this comic was teh funneh.
sheppy @ Feb 3rd 2007 8:02PM
I haven't played Mario Party since the first one. Mainly because everything I thought was broken, remains so to this day according to the friends I have that DO play Mario Party. And, and somehow, virtual dice seems so very, very wrong.
Ninegauger @ Feb 3rd 2007 8:05PM
I didn't Penny Arcade was going to win with that one, but it's definitely the funniest.
Scott @ Feb 3rd 2007 8:07PM
Who to vote for?
The regulars were good as usual, and then Tip of The Sword had the clever Zelda parody, Quantz was funny as always, and you even got Real Life in there. Penny Arcade, I suppose. Mario Party truthness.I'm in with the in crowd.
Yeah, the F@NB0Y$ strip was more for the people that make gaming comics than anyone else. We're all topical little whores. :P
BPM @ Feb 3rd 2007 8:12PM
My vote goes to Qwantz. That's all I have to say.
Shmil @ Feb 4th 2007 1:23PM
CAD hasn't been funny for years, it was about the time that Tim stopped doing comics on video games and focused on his crappy predictable characters
Brian @ Feb 3rd 2007 8:37PM
Bless all of you who mentioned that CAD is a godawful comic. I got into it through this site and a few of the comics were funny, but then he got into that interminable and numbingly dull storyline about his girlfriend/fiancee joining the gaming league along with meeting her parents. It's like all the dreadful writing of an old media strip with the full knowledge that the Net is supposed to be the antidote to that garbage.
Donald @ Feb 3rd 2007 8:40PM
Fanboys: It's funny because it's true.
I don't have a comic, but I did half my university papers that way.
"TO GOOGLE!"
theLoneYoshi @ Feb 3rd 2007 8:41PM
Heh, funny how I just looked at that webcomic yesterday and I remembered that episode of Bleach. Greatest Episode Ever! *Sigh*... then the series went downhill after the Soul Society story arc...
Anonymous @ Feb 3rd 2007 9:11PM
After the Soul Society arc, Bleach went to filler (episodes that are from material not in the manga) just like Naruto did for years. Bleach has just (as of 3 or so episodes ago) come off the filler, and I think Naruto is about to aswell (After a much longer amount of time compared to Bleach).
This episode of Bleach was amazing, I don't see how making a parody of it is in any way funny. Sometimes VG cats is hilarious, and sometimes they take some material, make a joke out of it where there really is none to be made, and then unleash it upon the masses, knowing that there will be enough people that don't understand and laugh because of it. Their humour is low-brow at best.
And I think the video was somewhat of a good idea, but there really wasn't enough material in that one page comic to make a video, especially not one that lasted as long as this one did.
awa64 @ Feb 3rd 2007 10:36PM
Weird that the two funniest comics this week (PA and Fanboys) both referenced Mario Party 8.
Sonyfanboyssuck (ROFL SUCH A CLEVER NAME!!!111oneone!!!1) @ Feb 3rd 2007 11:45PM
@ #5
He's Canadian. Trust me on this one.
-------
What was the second to last webcomic about? It was neither amusing or funny.
I wasn't sure who to vote for between Penny Arcade and Fanboys. In the end, I went with Fanboys though, because they're had an all-star lineup this past week.
Also, Joystiq, please stop posting comics that are in the middle of a story arc. Because people don't understand it unless they've read the whole arc, which leads to: "[Insert comic name here] 1S T3|-| S|_|X0rZ ROFLAMO!1!!!1ONE!!1!"
Adam @ Feb 4th 2007 3:59AM
Wow. Sort of a lackluster showing this week, eh? Tip of the Sword and Penny Arcade were really the only two that made me even giggle. Fanboys one just refused to load, though. Hrm.
I voted for TotS, just because I know they could use the help trying to topple the PA giant. Not that I have anything against PA.
And yes, #6: CAD's been really lackluster as of late. Of course, that tends to always happen around Winter-Een-Mas. I think the reason CAD doesn't tend to be funnier more often is because it focuses a lot more on its characters than it does the gaming industry. It's not necessarily bad, it's just not as funny, generally speaking.
FinalDelerium @ Feb 4th 2007 5:54AM
I dont mind CAD, but then i enjoy character driven stories.
But this week it's definitely Dinosaur Comics. Ryan North is an absolutely brilliant writer, to be able to come up with some absolute gems week after week.
Flynn @ Feb 4th 2007 11:19AM
Not that I'm bashing Bleach, because it's one of the only anime left that I actually enjoyed, but that video held my attention five seconds longer than 99.9% of most anime these days. -sigh-
Otherwise, I'm voting for Penny Arcade. I enjoy Mario Party a ton, it's great, but it still amuses me to see somebody making fun of it.
Infradead @ Feb 4th 2007 11:31AM
Uh... hello? Rat-flail Soul Slayer? How fucking ingenious is that?
Didn't vote for VG cats though, mine went to the "You suck at life" accheivement. PA are usually funnier than that. Oh, and screw everyone who hates CAD by the way.
Nick @ Feb 4th 2007 11:47AM
@16
"I don't see how making a parody of it is in any way funny"
Because we all know that anime is God's gift to mankind and must be faithfully worshipped. Traitors who dare poke fun at it must be burned alive, right? Geez, you anime/Japan fanboys need to chill. I like and watch anime myself but c'mon, there need to be limits.
Captain Tastey @ Feb 4th 2007 12:01PM
CAD sucks as usual. Tim can't draw and he can't write.
Penny Arcade is great cuz I got Vista Home Basic and it's funny because it's true.
Fanboys is funny for it's little poke towards other gaming comics as well as itself.
PA gets my vote.
Captain Tastey @ Feb 4th 2007 12:06PM
Oh silly me, I voted for PA for their Vista Comic and not their Mario Party one... the Mario Party one is great too so I can still stand by my vote for PA. Coolness.
Maxathon @ Feb 4th 2007 1:05PM
Am I really in the minority amongst gamers in finding most anime really, really inane and boring? This stupid little cartoon included?
Aside from Akira, Neon Genesis Evangelion (which was pretty borderline at times in terms of taste and cultural relevance for me, but too smart to dismiss) and Ghost in the Shell, I just don't enjoy it.
Maybe it's because I'm 25 and grew up more with American cartoons...
Matt @ Feb 4th 2007 4:15PM
EXCUSE ME BUT THE MOST RECENT XKCD WAS GAMING THEMED AND WAS ALSO MORE HILARIOUS THAN ALL OF THOSE, KTHX.
Yeah. http://xkcd.com/
That's my vote.
Phil @ Feb 5th 2007 12:11PM
"through clever panning -- make it a compelling anime. It's either a testament to clever camera work or a sad note on cartoons."
To consider that clip an "animated" work is an insult to anyone who really knows how to animate.
Mossflower @ Feb 4th 2007 11:05PM
Why is this so amazing? Animes are just mangas with voice acting. That's why they're so awesome.
Steve @ Feb 5th 2007 9:40AM
This is why I hate anime. It's cheap, ugly, and apparently only requires one new actual frame of content every few seconds.
Give me Disney anyday.
Flynn @ Feb 5th 2007 10:12AM
@29...Oh yeah I know.
I miss the beautiful fluid animation of the cartoons of my youth.
karmaghost @ Feb 5th 2007 12:16PM
Nice to see dinosaur comics in the mix, but the link to the .png file eliminates the proper alternate text, which is actually kind of a 7th panel in his comics. The link to the original comic is http://www.qwantz.com/index.pl?comic=927
and for the lazy, the alternate text/misc properties is:
