Tiny LCD built into a 360 ... why?
19
Ever wanted your Xbox 360 to be a portable gaming system? We hope you said no otherwise you'll actually think about purchasing one of those 360s showcased in the video above. We present to you a Xbox 360 with one tiny LCD built into the side. Think PSP without the ability to hold it in your hands ... yup, just like that. It may be be cool in theory, but we aren't finding any practical reasons for this mod. Unless you're in a pinch for a display and need a quick gaming fix to feed your addiction. And excuse the lovely Metallica music in the video, though they may have chose it because this mod may be sad but true. Okay seriously, what's your opinion? Would you pay extra for this LCD option on the side of your gaming console and why?
[Thanks, Machiavelli 420]

I wouldn't buy a 360 pre-modded but I might do this myself...after my warranty runs out that is. If I did I would never use it, it would just be for bragging rights.

I think it would be a lot more useful if it could be used like the 'SlideShow' feature in some of the new Windows Vista laptops, so it could show, say, the progress of a movie download when you play a game on your TV. For that to be useful though, the screen would really have to be on the front of the system.
Still, it's an interesting mod.

like the 360 doesn't have enough heat sources =P as hammer said thought it would be useful to display downloads.

The Xbox 360 is more than a gaming console. I can see this being useful when the 360 is used as an HTPC/Media Center Extender. I had an old Philips Streamium that had this on the front, and it was nice being able to navigate your music without the TV on. Or, as Hammer suggested above, showing the time left on music/video without having to bring up the on-screen menu.
So no, it's not completely useless - it would be a nice feature, but I don't think I could justify paying too much extra for it.
But yes, it's of limited use - it's

I'm currently on a trip to LA without an available monitor OR TV for the 360 I brought along. That LCD would be mighty handy about now...

It's cool only for it's looks while playing on a real screen (at the same time) and it is different. How about the same thing but a black console instead?

Oh god the music! I can't stand it!
Why do almost all Youtube videos have stupidly-slow text fading in/out with god-awful rock background music? I'd rather the creator just explained how he did this rather than Kid Rock pummeling my ears.

That's not Kid Rock, but the venerable Metallica.

let's see someone try to beat Insane Raam on that POS...guarantee it can't be done. Worthless mod. What a waste of a 360.

This is absolutly pathetic, why go to the effort of doing that. There is no use for this what so ever, neither is it worth bragging about. What a waste.
