Tekken in PS3 Store this month
Tekken Dark Resurrection plops down in North America's PlayStation Store later this month, following its debut in Asia. Namco Bandai's downloadable fighter joins Sega's disc-based Virtua Fighter 5 in the waning weeks of February, as two high-profile franchises battle for PS3 owners' idle attention. While unconfirmed, expect Tekken to be offered in the $15-20 range; VF5's gonna go for the standard $60.1UP speculates that Namco Bandai could offer additional updates for Tekken -- like online multiplayer -- but the publisher has shot down rumors that the (initial) North American release was delayed to add new content. If you already nabbed the Asian version, no worries, you won't be missing out.

I am sure a port of a 2-3 year old PS2 game with 1080p textures will help save the PS3 from its impeding death kneel.
SILCOX @ Feb 6th 2007 9:43PM
Uhm impeding death kneel...sigh...fan boy at its best. Checking the next few months of releases shows me about 5-6 games worth bying for my tastes. Might not be your tastes, but thats not the point.
I have also watched a few Blue-Rays on it and can't go back to standard DVDs anymore. On a decent HDTV it does make a difference.
So just because the system doesn't seem to meet your needs, surely doesn't mean its on a death kneel...as you put it :)
It is a very nice solid system from what I have seen of it so far, and I have only had it a week. Its a launch anyway....takes awhile to get tons of games out.
David @ Feb 6th 2007 9:47PM
Damn... $20 for a port?!
Gavin @ Feb 6th 2007 10:03PM
"$20 for a port?!"
Yeah, but if it were a $50 port for the Wii, people would be bowing down as if it were the second coming of Christ.
Rubang B @ Feb 6th 2007 10:05PM
Damn straight we would. I've paid full price for every port on the Wii so far, and I won't stop! Keep 'em coming!
MoonfirePewPEwPEw @ Feb 6th 2007 10:18PM
"Uhm impeding death kneel...sigh...fan boy at its best. "
Refute my claims, or shut up with the fanboy comments...or is that all you can think up?
MoonfirePewPEwPEw @ Feb 6th 2007 10:20PM
"Yeah, but if it were a $50 port for the Wii, people would be bowing down as if it were the second coming of Christ."
The Wii community is against all of these shitty PS2 ports that are happening to it by EA and Ubisoft, don't act like they praise it.
Gavin @ Feb 6th 2007 10:23PM
"The Wii community is against all of these shitty PS2 ports that are happening to it by EA and Ubisoft, don't act like they praise it."
Hahahahaha...what fantasy world do you live in? Just look at the SSX game coming out for the Wii. People act like that game is something special and new, but it's only a bunch of old courses ported over.
SILCOX @ Feb 6th 2007 10:27PM
Sorry PewPew....I didn't correctly comment on your post.
Anyone with a shred of common sense knows that 1 single game be it full or arcade (PS3 or XBL) will never sell a system realistically.
So you were actually trolling...not being a fanboy.
Sorry :)
And to the Wii comments in general. The Wii is targeting a different group of people than the 360/PS3. No sense in bashing it. Granted I must say the ports do seem to suck, but I hear the original games are quite good.
Optimus Prime @ Feb 6th 2007 10:38PM
Aside from redsteel, ALL of UbiSoft's Wii launch games were last gen ports with tacked on wiimote controls.. and you guys had the pleasure of paying 50 bucks a pop. Zelda Tp is a port of a GC game. Cooking Mama and Trauma Centre are DS ports.
Welcome to 2007 and console launches, $20 for a 1080p port dont seem so bad after all, eh, pew?
Baby21 @ Feb 6th 2007 11:08PM
"And to the Wii comments in general. The Wii is targeting a different group of people than the 360/PS3."
Yeah, only full of group with low IQ, cannot learn the combo of controller's buttons.
bootsielon @ Feb 6th 2007 11:25PM
You know what's funny though? That this month PS3 will have more classic 3D fighting games than Xbox 360 has. Both Tekken AND virtua Fighter (that doesn't even count backwards compatibility). In a year and a third though, Xbox 360 only has DoA. And come on, DoA is not really a memorable franchise other than it having "tits". But hey, at least 360 has some live arcade ports of Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat, right? Too bad they are broken, otherwise that might have worked. lol. So much for kneeling, right pewpew?
Optimus Prime:
Correction, EVEN Red Steel is last gen game.
suicide @ Feb 6th 2007 11:39PM
The Picture? Marilyn Manson? ;P
jaysins @ Feb 6th 2007 11:41PM
@bootsielon
So what's wrong with tits... huh, got a problem with tits. Weirdo :) I like the DOA games but for sure the PS3 has more fighting games but the 360 isn't doing so bad in that regard. We get a few of the PS3 titles eventually so it's all good. And backwards compatibility doesn't count unless your a wii player because so far last gen games make up a nice chunk of your library ;). Jk wii lovers. $20 doesn't seem like that bad of a price if you've never played it as that's about the price new at a store. If you've already played it than whether it's worth it or not is up to you. Think it's to expensive don't buy it. Simple as that.
scott @ Feb 6th 2007 11:42PM
I actually have a completely offtopic question, but regards the ps3. Does ps3 play normal dvds? I wasn't sure.
Baby21 @ Feb 7th 2007 12:00AM
/\ I'm with the lamer.
Of course. How come PS3 can play PS2/PSX and dvd movie.
RDX @ Feb 7th 2007 12:00AM
Why the hell does it seem like every single Joystiq posting just morphs into a war zone for Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo loyals? This news has nothing to do with Wii or XBLA. There are plenty of other stories that you can bash a rival console and still have it be relevant to what Joystiq posted.
bootsielon @ Feb 7th 2007 12:00AM
jaysins:
Maybe you made a false assumption that I'm a man... Nah, I am a man, but If I wasn't why would that be weird? Although I have no problem with tits because I love them, I don't play SOLELY for tits. Of course virtua fighter and tekken would be enhanced with tits, but in the end it's gameplay (and to me, storyline) that matters. And I love Tekken's storyline and Virtua's gameplay.
And you know, although I also have a 360, I wish I wouldn't have bought it. It's a third rate product. The few extra exclusives you get aren't worth suffering the quality problems, and again, it's not like those exclusives are very diverse; they're the same old western RPG/GTAClone/FPS/RTS with Aliens/War in it. How about some flying originals such as Warhawk and Lair? How about an original storyline on FPS such as Killzone and Resistance? How about something *exclusive* that remotely resembles guitar hero and singstar (PS3 exclusive)? No? Boo. On the JRPG front things don't look bad, Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, but PS3 has FFXIII, Monster Hunter and White Knight Story, and let's be honest, who do you think that in the end will get more of those, PS3 or 360? On the action front, PS3 will get Ninja Gaiden Sigma (port, yet enhanced and with lots of extras), Devil May Cry (still exclusive), and Metal Gear Solid. All this year. And "If God of War 2 is succesful" in David Jaffe's words "there will be a third one". (You think it won't be?). The only action games for Xbox 360 that I can think off (and that are not SHOOTERS) are the Too Human trilogy, and so far it is a slideshow. Assasin's Creed is in both. Third Person Shooters are great on 360, Lost Planet is great, and Gears has excellent graphics (although it's too short), but PS3 has SOCOM, which has a big following. I also predict that PS3 will get more games from the makers of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus.
You can basically see the same original Xbox games pattern on Xbox 360, with a little extra japanese support, while on PS3 you still see a lot of originality, although it is faraway, and not as much of it is exclusive to Sony anymore. And frankly, as a hardcore gamer that likes variety and technology, I prefer PS3. Especially since 360's most anticipated games are of the same genre's of last gen: Western RPGs, FPS and RTS.
Wii is the wild card for VERY VERY original games, but that still has to be shown. The only thing that bothers me is that its most anticipated titles are again "Mario, Wario, Zelda, Metroid, Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, MArio Party, Mario does the laundry, Mario teaches genetical engineering with Pokey-Man, Fire Emblem" and so on, the typical Nintendo franchises. How about some originality for a change?
I so wish for Mac to enter the game consoles business again.
End of rant.
Baby21 @ Feb 7th 2007 12:08AM
Very well input!
"I so wish for Mac to enter the game consoles business again."
Nah it will be no good, I think SEGA is better.
bootsielon @ Feb 7th 2007 12:15AM
Baby, although it is off topic, I think Sega had enough of the console business. I just think Apple would do a lot better than Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft combined. And I'm not an Apple fanboy (hell, the only thing Apple I have is an iPod, and frankly, who doesn't?).
Apple makes stylish thinks, sometimes even better than Sony. Apple is original, which competes with Nintendo. And Apple is just a plain better software company than Nintendo. What else? Too bad their iPhone could have been better.
bootsielon @ Feb 7th 2007 12:15AM
I meant to say stylish things*, not thinks
bootsielon @ Feb 7th 2007 12:17AM
CRAP! I meant better software company than Microsoft! I'm so tired.
jmf @ Feb 7th 2007 12:32AM
This news just sold the PS3 for me :D My bday on Feb. 20th - I know what I'm getting.
I've been playing Tekken DR on PSP for the past two months on my friends PSP - had to return it because I didn't want to buy a PSP - now we can start fighting each other again on the console :D
Oh and to the morons who think Tekken DR is a PS2 port - plz stfu :D Tekken 5 and DR are different games - being that 5 is broken and DR is fixed - and completely revamped. If you can't tell the difference you should keep your mouth shut :D
Oh and DOA is barely a fighter - I doubt it can even compete with WWE Smackdown games as a fighter :X
Tekken DR and VF5 - we just need Soul Calibur and maybe a Bushido Blade 3 and we'll be set til Tekken 6 or Tekken Tag Tournament 2 arrives. Maybe another Vs. with Capcom?
Liquid @ Feb 7th 2007 12:49PM
Soul Calibur will be ps3 exclusive

Chill dude. The tits thing was suppose to be sarcastic and making lite of your comments not poking fun... everyone loves titties. I do you do, many girls do. It's all good and I wasn't calling you a nontitty lover. And where from the post did you get the idea that I was bashing the PS3. I said that it did have more fighters but the xbox 360 is getting a few as well. I was complementing both consoles lineup. I like both consoles, 360 is currently my console of choice by far because for me it has a way better game lineup thus far, better online service and more appealing games coming out later that look good to me. I'll no doubt get a PS3 when some appealing games drop same as I waited on the 360. Oh, there already is a flying game for the 360 called over G fighter, and we have Star Trek which is kinda maybe sort of a flying type game. Can't touch star trek man, photon torpedoes and all. Guitar Here is coming to the 360 as well and likely with online play. Battle Stations is pretty Unique as is Mass Effect as well as others. It's all opinion on what's good. Bash the 360 all you want but you'll be happy you bought won by the end of 07. Plenty of original titles and much more diverse genres coming to a console near you. Just as I will be happy when I get my PS3 probably later this year. I'm just waiting for it to hit it's stride.
Grunge @ Feb 7th 2007 5:43AM
First of all, for those of you who think that a "death knell" involves "kneeling", please get a dictionary or some sort of cultural education. The death knell was the sound of the bell that was struck to announce a death. Hence, if you heard a death knell, you knew that someone had died or was dying. Now you know, and you can't claim ignorance for next time. (Also, it's impending not impeding, because they are almost opposites.)
To the matter at hand:
@ SILCOX
It doesn't matter if you like it, it matters if the ubiquitous "they" like it. The console wars are not fought on a personal front, but on the stark battlegrounds of the public mind. To paraphrase Stalin, a single opinion is worthless; a million opinions decide the fates of gaming. What the druid was saying is that this title won't turn the tide of that war (because presumably the druid thinks that this war is being lost by Sony).
Also, I like titties.
Jake @ Feb 7th 2007 9:50AM
Bootsielen,
If you can sit and say nearly every 360 game sucks/will suck while every PS3 game will rock, you are a fanboy, not a true gamer. A true gamer likes good games, not a system. Fanboys like systems first and games second.
How can you call Warhawk an original flying game that PS3 owners can look forward to? And the 360 will get VF5, albeit a little late, and will be the only platform with online play enabled. Maybe you need to check your sources. And how can you not be a bit excited for Mass Effect, Bioshock, or Crackdown? They are original IP's by accomplished devs/publishers. You don't even mention the sequel to the second best selling shooter of all time. And how does Killzone2 and Resistance have such a unique storyline compared to Gears, Halo, or Lost Planet?
If I didn't know how your posts generally go I would think you were being sarcastic. Sadly, you are not. The PS3 has some great games coming up and I look forward to hopefully getting to play some of them. But, the 360 cannot be dismissed as a great platform. It has better games right now. The only things PS3 owners are looking forward to are sequels and unproven, untested games like Lair and Heavenly Sword. I always get more excited about new gaming experiences than rehashed sequels, but that's just me. Personally, I am more excited for Mass Effect and Bioshock than Halo3 and Fable2, even though they'll all kick ass.
jmf @ Feb 7th 2007 5:30PM
Lets not lose sight of whats actually being discussed here. This is about Tekken and the fact is Tekken has been a Sony exclusive since Namco decided to compete with Sega and their Virtua Fighter. So enough about 360, Mass Effect and Halo sequels. The plain fact is Tekken is on PS3 - which means Tekken players will be buying PS3s, for the most part.
