Jade Empire: Special Edition goes gold
The "Special Edition" part referring to the PC (and potentially politically correct) version of BioWare's KOTOR-but-with-Kung-Fu epic, Jade Empire. The 2K-published RPG, which now boasts higher resolutions, improved AI, an extra difficulty level, an art book and a poster, has officially gone gold and should be in North American stores by February 27th. Europe will receive the game a few days later on March 2nd. Of course, no Jade Empire press release is complete without referencing IGN's frothing demand for the 2005 Xbox release. It scored a 9.9, you know.

So what do the people who played it on the X-Box get? The people who figured out that you could basically solve the whole game with the basic punch and kick attack that meant all the upgrades were basically worthless?

Why is there a link to Ikaruga in the article?

"The North American box cover for the Gamecube version contains the infamous IGN quote, "Our frothing demand for this game increases." which has become synonymous for asinine game journalism on prominent internet discussion groups."
He's referencing it might help if you actually clicked the link and you know...read.

9.9. Yeah right. I enjoyed it, i think. I might have just been bored, I don't particularly remember anything from the game, other than the stupid ending.

Actually, when it comes to the cover, I've always kind of wondered why Lucy Thai is on it.
I mean, nothing against Lucy (Luci). She's a very attractive woman, but why her?

I want to know why it took them 2 years to get this to the PC! I mean seriously. I didn't even own an Xbox when this game came out but I bought the game anyway and played it on a friend's machine. I thought that this game was another great addition to Bioware's line-up. And while yes it does seem to have elements of Kotor in it I think that the general feel of it was a little more fun.
They should re-release it with the changes to the 360. I'd buy it again. (It would get cast aside for Mass Effect though...)
My goodness! I just realized I'm a Bioware fanboy.
Excuse me, I have merchandise to go purchase.

this was a good game. certainly not a great game, or a fantastic game.
it wasn't nearly as deep as KOTOR or KOTOR II, and I think that the game suffered for it. You couldn't upgrade your character much, each type of character you choose really didn't seem very different from one choice to the next, and although it looked sharp, it really wasn't different then anything else we've seen before.
I enjoyed it (somewhat), but sold it back to my local game store as soon as I had finished it.
If the RPG elements were a little deeper, and you had a ton more control over how your character progressed (IE more customization) I think this would've been much better.
but yeah, its all magic effect-punch-punch-kick, then you win. nothing to it.

I am not sure if this is true or not most likely it is not but I heard this was the game that Bioware was making for the PS3. If so I think thats cool. Plus this time it would sell more in Japan because more people would own a PS3 over the Xbox when this game first came out.
toppocketman @ Feb 7th 2007 1:49PM
How much is this going to cost? I loved the Xbox version and would love to get my hands on the PC one as well, but I am not going to shell out more then twenty bucks for a two year old game.

Why was this game so popular? It's almost like playing Kotor 1.5, only with a badly done "Asian" theme. The whole "open palm"/"closed fist" routine was poorly executed. Although they tell you it's not "good" vs. "evil", your choices are pretty unambigious. Only this time, the "evil" choices sometimes try to use "what doesn't kill them will make them stronger" as a lame justification. I mean, seriously, does ANYONE think by flooding that town that there'll even BE survivors to become "stronger"?
gLitterbug @ Feb 7th 2007 1:50PM
Can anyone confirm the included artbook and poster for the game for Europe? No store has that listed with the game and depending on if that artbook is included and how it looks like (small dvd booklet or decent book) it will affect my buying decision. Thanks.

Because she's asian and has boobs. It's like a Fanboy's wet dream!

Like both KOTOR and this game, they both screamed for more depth. Had these games been deeply layered and dynamic, they would've been masterpieces.

When Brian Doyle Murray voices a Chinaman, the whole "willing suspension of disbelief" thing goes right out the window.
That, and I like my RPG's to offer regions to explore, not levels.
Matt @ Feb 12th 2007 1:02PM
Pocketmann, I believe the cost of the game is $39.99...can't wait
