Manhunt 2 Wii box art more interesting than teaser

After yesterday's announcement stabbed us in the face with a shard of glass, we've had some time to get used to the idea that Rockstar's Manhunt series is making its new-gen debut on Nintendo's heretofore soft and cuddly Wii console (alongside current-gen PSP and PS2 releases). The mind is a scary place to get stuck, as we did last night while trying (unsuccessfully we might add) to fall asleep. You see, we were preoccupied with all the horribly grotesque ways we imagined killing people (virtually, of course!) with the Wiimote. Hallucinations set in around 3am and we saw (did we?) rows of bespectacled Canadian programmers sitting in a crowded conference room, surrounded by empty pizza boxes and whiteboards covered with poorly spelled ideas. Ideas like: stabbing, bludgeoning, cleaving, slitting, choking (with optional nunchuk assist), and nunchuck ... ing. There were other ideas scribbled out: purple nurpling, hugging, arm wrestling ...
If those visions of horror didn't whet your appetite, try Rockstar's Manhunt 2 teaser, embedded after the break. Yeah, our favorite part is when the announcer says "This product is not yet rated" too. Something tells us this one's not getting a T.

ROFL at "purple nurpling"!!
I'll have to watch the teaser when I get home.
LuckyChowmeinDude @ Feb 7th 2007 4:53PM
We all know is gonna get a M rating.
Chris @ Feb 7th 2007 4:54PM
lets hope it's better than the bore-fest that was Manhunt.

Regardless of whether you're interested in Manhunt 2 or not, it's nice to see Rockstar supporting the Wii. Hopefully this means we'll see Ping Pong and other titles, too.
Baby21 @ Feb 7th 2007 5:03PM
You know, there are also PSP and PS2 box art too.
So change the title :P
Virtua Fanboy @ Feb 7th 2007 5:04PM
Manhunt is gonna sell as well on the Wii as Viva Pinata is selling on Xbox 360. Two TOTALLY different demographics, know what I mean?
C. Grant @ Feb 7th 2007 5:05PM
2kings: you're right. I've changed it. And you're right, Baby21, but those covers aren't more interesting than the teaser!
ss @ Feb 7th 2007 5:05PM
Man, that trailer sucks ass.
And the fake shivering voice...
Ghey.
Richard Mitchell @ Feb 7th 2007 5:07PM
This may be the first Rockstar title I've been interested in since Table Tennis.
Baby21 @ Feb 7th 2007 5:14PM
Yeah rockstar's teaser never that good,

This is actually the preorder inlay art, meaning the art they put up at GameStop and the like to drive preorders. This most likely will not end up being the final box art.
Killtacular @ Feb 7th 2007 5:29PM
Wow, that VO was terrible... and that was half of the magic in the first game. Hope it's just placeholder dialog.
Fatass of Kickassness @ Feb 7th 2007 6:10PM
The funny thing is, too many retards are gonna say, "Oh this is dah port of PS2 version, its tha same, its last-gen" when they don't realize the games are being made by seperate studios.
Rubang B @ Feb 7th 2007 6:49PM
Yeah I'm worried about the voice work. Brian Cox MADE Manhunt. The first kid's voice didn't sound believable, and then that last voice sounded like that one crazy "game" guy from Red Steel.
Rubang B @ Feb 7th 2007 6:52PM
There is no last-gen or new/next-gen, and we can't even pinpoint the current gen, since a 6th generation system is the best seller in North America and a 7th generation system is the best seller everywhere else. Between the DS and the PS2 and the Wii we're kinda 6.5 gen right now.
evildoer @ Feb 7th 2007 7:42PM
sick.
cant wait.

Sepearte studios because they have to tuned down abit for Wii.
Like remove physis engine, gore effect etc...

"Sepearte studios because they have to tuned down abit for Wii.

You do know that the Wii is quite a bit more powerful than then PS2 and PSP, don't you? (Even the Gamecube was)
Why exactly would e.g physics engine need to be tuned down?
Baby21 @ Feb 7th 2007 9:57PM

Oh really, SO WOWOWOWOW!
rakka @ Feb 7th 2007 10:06PM
The name Baby21 suits you well...
Rob Accomando @ Feb 7th 2007 10:10PM
I don't think Baby21 knows what he/she is talking about.
How do you know they will "remove gore effects"? Wait and see.
The teaser was cool, imo. Can't wait to see what Manhunt 2 is like.
Baby21 @ Feb 7th 2007 11:44PM
I would love to see if there will be gore effect on Wii. I might buy one.
But I still got funny feeling it won't.
Baby21 @ Feb 7th 2007 11:46PM

Thanks :)

If it doesn't, then I'd be surprised... :( So much for Nintendo trying to lose the kiddy-only image.
I know now what you're saying about the blood/gore.
But what about the physics/graphics? Did you mean in your original post that the Wii version's physics wouldn't be on par with the PS2/PSPs versions? Or did I misunderstand..
Thx :)

To be honest, I don't know from now...
After I realise tonight from Wiki site show that, Wii is almost twice fast than gamecube.
I always thought Wii is weaker than all and some old systems since I owned Wii and I thought my PS2 games shows better all my 5 wii games.
Maybe it is because I have heard some Wii games have 480p problem with my new HDTV.
What I don't get it is why two different studios with one same game title. Therefore it more likely won't be same gameplay. But question what the different?

"To be honest, I don't know from now...

Glad you found out :D And Gamecube was more powerful than the PS2. (Xbox > GC > PS2)
"I always thought Wii is weaker than all and some old systems since I owned Wii and I thought my PS2 games shows better all my 5 wii games."
LOL, it's true that the Wii launch games aren't exactly good looking. However, give it some time, and we'll hopefully see great things. Look at Resident Evil 4 for Gamecube -- that was amazing. (PS2's RE4 graphics weren't as good, and the cutscenes were pre-rendered on GC for the PS2 version)
Also, devs have had plenty of time to get used to the PS2's hardware. If you look at the new gameplay movies of God of War 2... I believe it looks better that most of the PS3 games ;-)
"Maybe it is because I have heard some Wii games have 480p problem with my new HDTV."
I think more to do with them being launch titles.. wait a bit for future wii games and the graphics should improve.
"What I don't get it is why two different studios with one same game title. Therefore it more likely won't be same gameplay. But question what the different?"
The studio working on the PS2/PSP version is a newly formed. The one working on the Wii version has been around for sometime, more experienced I believe.
*Hopefully* the difference will be that the Wii version's graphics are better than the PS2's.
We just have to wait and see ;)
bmac @ Feb 8th 2007 8:20AM
The only thing that would make me nervous about putting out titles across those three platforms is, what if the wii version doesn't look signifigantly better? I know they are basically being built by two different groups, but you know there is going to be a comparison of the two console versions, and I wonder what the reaction will be if the wii doesn't show up the ps2 in every way possible? I'm hoping that the motion controls will work out for it, but they also have to differentiate it beyond that as well. I'm sure at least some of the art will have to be shared, unless they basically build two different games, and don't just port one to the other in some way.
Not saying that will happen, just something I thought about this morning.
spitNvenom @ Feb 8th 2007 10:41AM
There is no reason to tone this game down for the Wii. I would think they would Utilize the Parental Controls the Wii came with. I think the Wii added those to encourage more Mature games. I personally haven't bought a Nintendo System since the NES just because it didn't offer the type of games i liked but when the Wii came out, it was too revolutionary to pass up. I love it. Bring on the violence.
MattGamer @ Feb 8th 2007 10:42AM
Woo.. I ditto #18.
velocitystrike @ Feb 8th 2007 11:28AM
@ 10.
This is the only proper title since Table Tennis ¬¬
t_m @ Feb 9th 2007 8:05AM
I can't see why they'd turn down any gore for the Wii version.. infact they should probably turn them up.. get a lot more press and sales that way.
Frank @ Feb 12th 2007 9:05PM
Bring on some good graphics and violence. If the graphics aren't good, I'm not buying it.
Link182 @ Feb 27th 2007 9:17AM
I'm assuming that nobody is picking up on baby21's grammer and syntax? The same division of rockstar that made Canis Canem Edit is doing the Wii version are they not? Manhunt was such an excellent idea for a game, but was not without it's flaws. On a tangent, has anyone seen The running man? same idea. Anyway, What kind of fucking developer would remove the fucking gore from a gore-ridden game just because its on a fucking Nintendo console!? It's not fucking 1991 when nintendo's policy towards excessive gore, sexuality, swearing etc, resulted in a "sweaty" Mortal Kombat. I can't beleive that people on this blog would tolerate such stupidity.
Yours Sincerly
