Uncharted: Drake's Fortune images leak, Naughty Dog's latest exposed

Play France went digging into Naughty Dog background modeler Rob Adams' online resume and turned up some new images from the studio's upcoming adventure game, now (unofficially) confirmed to carry the uninspired title Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. A trademark and logo for that name turned up earlier this week and were quickly tied to the Naughty Dog project; an E3 trailer for the game alluded to infamous English navigator Sir Francis Drake's lost treasure. Predictably, Sony has responded with: "We don't comment on rumors and speculation. Nothing has been announced." Not sure this classifies as rumor and speculation any longer...

Just so you guys know, these images are from a build of the game that is at least 5 months old. Someone on the GAF forums looked into some info on the images and noticed that they were last modified in photoshop 5 months ago. The game probably looks a lot better right now than it does in these screens. (which look amazing)
mushiking @ Feb 7th 2007 9:41PM
a ps3 exclusive that looks really good? an by Naughty Dog? let's wait and see how people spin this.
seriously though, Sony needs promote more titles. this is what people wanna see for 600 dollars.
Baby21 @ Feb 7th 2007 9:48PM

This game blow Crysis away.

Bill @ Feb 7th 2007 9:51PM
I dont believe it really looks this good WHILE RUNNING ON THE PS3.
In other words this is the equivalent of concept art until proven otherwise.
Rubang B @ Feb 7th 2007 10:00PM
What? Why's everything green in that picture? We all know that everything in the real world is brown, with a dash of gray.
Bill @ Feb 7th 2007 10:01PM
Oh shit, here come the Sony fanboys like baby 21, complete with misleading pictures (you had to pick the worst possible picture of Crysis you possibly could, didn't you? (And yet it still looks better than Drake).
Anybody who thinks Crysis when it's done wont mop the floor with this game is a deluded Sony fanboy. Then again it takes a deluded Sony fanboy to believe that the PS3 with 512MB of Ram can top a PC that will have 2-4 gigs of RAM when Crysis ships. Or the fact that the RSX in PS3 has a PC equivilant that is already an old card (it's a 7800GTX).
Sigh, delusions..
Anyways, the PS3 has yet to prove itself in my eyes as capable of even matching the 360, let alone exceeding it in great measure, otherwise why are there already mountains of multi-platform games that are struggling to keep up with the 360 version?
Sure, maybe one day it will exceed the 360, but it certainly hasn't proved it so far.
And again, this scene is concept art until I see it running on a PS3. Even then, it's not that impressive, as we only see one chracter, no action, etc. Where Crysis has proved itself with tons of videos with awesome physics.
Another giveaway that the shot is likely concept is the AA..I dont notice any jaggies, and the PS3 is a jaggie-prone machine due to it's basic design. So I'm not sure how they suddenly shoe-horned 16XAA into it's meager bandwidth for these shots..but call me skeptical.
Baby21 @ Feb 7th 2007 10:09PM
lol sweet, Who said am sony fanboy.
uh_oh @ Feb 7th 2007 10:10PM
So this is the 600 dollar reason?

Maybe not this moment, but it sounds like it will be on my list.

#3 Baby 21, i think you are right, definaty better than Crysis
http://www.playfrance.com/image6184-ps3-naughty-dog-project.html
also here is another crappy Crysis screen for you to compare, http://media.pc.ign.com/media/694/694190/img_3533357.html
and Crysis also fogs up the everything 100 meters in front of you because it doesn't have the Cell processor to give it the power it needs to show you as far are you naked eye could probable see,

Look at the right bottom corner, it have "pause" GUI on it.
hmm, it sounds safe to say it is possible in game screenshot.
the_insider @ Feb 7th 2007 10:53PM
Yeah, it certainly doesn't look bad, but there isn't really anything special in these shots either. At least not special enough to get me excited in any way or form.

can you people not bitch about something for once in your miserable, hate filled lives? or are you physically, mentally, and emotionally incapable of admiting when there is something positive to report for Sony and the Playstation 3?
it's already been said numerous times by Naughty Dog (a company who is known to never BS when it comes to their game's PR), that the trailer they showed way back when was actually running in real time, on the engine they built for the Playstation 3. from scratch.
this game looks amazing, but nothing out of the realm of Next Gen possibility.
also, what more will it take for some of you guys to admit that the Playstation 3, at the least, is on equal footing with the 360?
look at Fight Night Round 3 for example. this is a multi-platform game, and yet it still looked great on the Playstation 3, better than the 360 version (though the extra development time also helped).
also, look at games like Motorstorm. that game looks amazing, and is shaping up to be close to the target renders.
look at Heavy Rain. i saw the demo running in real time on the Playstation 3 while i was E3 last year. it looked amazing, and from a short distance, i thought it was actual real footage, until i got up close.
yes, it's a demo, but it clearly shows what the PS3 can do visually.
look at Lair, look at White Knight Story, look at Ninja Gaiden Sigma, look at Metal Gear Solid 4, god, i can go on and on. how is the PS3 not equal to the 360? seriously, does your hatred for Sony really run that deep?
the console has been out for nearly 3 months, and considering that developers have only had final dev kits for 7 months (final dev kits were shipped around June/July 2006), i'm impressed with what the PS3 can do so far.
and if ign is to be believed, Oblivion is looking and running comparably, if not better than the 360 version. and on technology that is a bitch to develop for, and with 512MB of RAM split between graphics and processing.
what does this tell you? honestly?
that the PS3 is a very capable system. and if it can run Unreal 3, and the engine that supports it practically perfectly, there's no reason to think it couldn't run Gears of War.
you guys seriously need to let this fanboy BS go. really. both consoles are worth your time an money, it took the 360 six months to a year to get there (Oblivion was the first truly good game to come out for it, and it came out practically 6 months after the 360 release, with Gears of War not appearing until a full year later), i expect the same trend to continue for the PS3, though, at the 5 month mark, we'll be treated to Virtua Fighter 5, Motorstorm, Oblivion, F.E.A.R, and quite a few more. Not counting excellent multi-platform games.
by the end of this year, the Playstation 3 will have proven it's worth, just like the 360 did. give it a rest already, joystiq (and some of it's ignorant, overzealous readers).
MoonfirePewPEwPEw @ Feb 7th 2007 11:19PM

Yea, keep telling yourself that. We haven't heard that before this generation.....

Argeed with figboy.
Many people can be crazy sometime or
someone who spent too much wank on one system, like someone just called me as sony fanboy even I said it is look good plants. Not even I said it is
better than Crysis in whole game.
It is such of shame that people won't let others to say good things on any link with SONY.
I can be pretty tried with them, but same time It can be funny to show who really are.
If you fed up with all of untrue negative comments.

mushiking @ Feb 7th 2007 11:43PM
i know you're a troll Moonfire, but are you an idiot as well?
the game is from Naughty Dog, what reason do they have to lie about anything? they're the company behind many of sony's major franchises. the developer even said the e3 demo ,which looks worse than the new shots; is running in real time. these pictures aren't promo shots, they were LEAKED from a guy who worked on the game.
Jurgen @ Feb 7th 2007 11:51PM
Naughty Dog's probably the most honest and skilled development company Sony's got in its corner. So it's highly unlikely that these are fake.
If I remember way back, Gabe "The PS3 is a massive failure" Newell said on an episode of the long-gone G4TV.com that Naughty Dog out of all the developers has the best grasp of the system's abilities.
I'm really looking forward to seeing more of this game in the future.
Bangbang... @ Feb 7th 2007 11:55PM
"i expect the same trend to continue for the PS3, though, at the 5 month mark, we'll be treated to Virtua Fighter 5, Motorstorm, Oblivion, F.E.A.R, and quite a few more. Not counting excellent multi-platform games."
Im not trying to discredit you, but Virtua Figher 5, Oblivion, and F.E.A.R are multi platfrom games. the only reason i mention it is because your trying to make it sound like the 360 went 6 months without any games.
However, the truth is that the 360 has got at least 1 new game every month after its release with very few exceptions(I think only one game was released during may june and july time frame). Fight Night 3, GRAW, DOA4 and Oblivion were all released within the first 120 days of the consoles launch.
Im sure the ps3 will prove its worth by the end of the year, but right now its just a glorified blu ray player.
Dave @ Feb 8th 2007 3:15AM
It looks good yes... but Assassins Creed and others already look better... i can see blurry textures etc...
It is just missing SOMETHING to me... and i'm not bagging it out, but probably the thing that is missing is motion and seeing how everything animates, as it looks kinda stiff at the moment.
And people who say PS3 isn't more powerful than Xbox360 are DELUSIONAL!
MoonfirePewPEwPEw @ Feb 8th 2007 3:28AM
"And people who say PS3 isn't more powerful than Xbox360 are DELUSIONAL!"
The PS3 is a horrible thought out, and planned gaming system. Sony did not engineer the PS3 from the ground up to optimize its gaming potential, and it shows. Sony got overconfident on the Cell's performance capabilities, and at the last minute went to NVidia to put an enhance consumer gpu in it, which of course was not optimized for the Cell, and speaking about the Cell, it too is not a component that was optimized for gaming.
When will people learn that the PS3 is just Sony's way of cost reducing the Cell and Blu-ray? It is just a second rate gaming system with unneeded higher cost components, infested with too many bottlenecks that even its PROs turns into CONs.
AndreasH @ Feb 8th 2007 4:56AM
Im actually not going to comment on this particular news story, I´m just going to paint you a picture (pun intended): Let´s say a console company wanted to advertise a game that could sell more consoles then their competitor, but they know that the actual in game graphics leaves everyone wanting for more. In the past companies tried to get away with releasing pre renders as in game screenshots and movies, but eventually they got cought and recieved a ton of negative buzz on the Internet. There is a lesson to be learned here, but lets face it, the general public has no clue about the difference of actual in game versus pre rendered pictures. There is a lot to gain from that, but how can a company do this without catching hell from their fan base? Well suppose that a small subsidiary company "accidentally" release a couple of images and / or movies depicting a game, along side a title, then the company actually don't have to comment wether this is in game or not. What I am saying is that you CAN make images look and feel as if they were in game when they are infact pre renders.
Imagine the possibilities of this kind of marketing campaign. A company can "accidentally" release a movie of a first person shooter with next-next-gen graphics shot in a way that it is hinting that it is an in game demonstration and without any accountability at all. The effect of such a campaign could be more sold consoles for that particular company. And when the game is released, it doesnt matter that graphics doesnt match the first set of screenshots, everyone already have the console. Nobody can claim they were cheated into buying a xxx$ console since the company never actually said it was in game.
Now remember boys and girls, I havent actually mentioned a specific company, and this is just a theory.
DrXym @ Feb 8th 2007 6:56AM
@6, titles such as Resistance, Motorstorm, VF5, Oblivion should demonstrate that the PS3 is more than capable of matching the 360. And exceeding it if programmed properly rather than getting some hand-me-down port.
Rico @ Feb 8th 2007 7:55AM
Playfrance appear to have taken the images down.
Mikeo @ Feb 8th 2007 8:29AM
Moonfire:
Way to comment on people's comprehension when you can't even punctuate correctly.
And apparently, you're also idiotically annoying taking potshots at everything besides your oh-so-beloved Wii. Nothing can go wrong on that, eh? How about a CONSUMER PowerG4 and a old Gamecube Chip thrown into your 250 ripoff system?
With about only 5 games that are really worth getting this year that spent OVER 8 months of good development time?
Get a life. Or the basic common sense to look up something if you wanna argue about it. Or an IQ better than 35.

Talk about over-reacting. It is a screen of a dude standing in a static jungle that has nothing going on. It looks nice. This picture is very old, as well. It is nice to know what Naughty Dog is working on and this could shape up to be a nice game. I bet the title gets changed, though.
People are trying to turn this into a "look, see, PS3 graphics are/aren't better than 360." God, give it a rest. Each system will have about the same graphics. They were each made at the same time and have graphics that look practically the same.
Right now, Gears of War is the most impressive game out there graphically. Within a year, the PS3 will top it with something. The 360 will also top it with something and people will bitch and be gay for the next 4 years. Let it go.
Each system has slightly different capabilities. But at this point you are an idiot to think they are significantly different. Just look at the damn games. When Xbox dropped, it was clearly superior to PS2 out of the gate...And they still had about the same power each!! This time around, it is debateable which is slightly better. Ugghhh. And since when to Sony fanboys even care about their system's graphical prowess? The PS2 was the weakest last gen and had the best games, making it better.
Okay, I'll end the rant. But can we please just put off the graphics crap until Sony releases a game that can be argued looks better than all of 360's shit?
Noshino @ Feb 8th 2007 11:18AM
"34. @Noshino
I own all 3 systems you pathetic excuse for a human
man i wouldn't be surprised if the whole SDF had over 20 accounts here"
I'm sorry, but I didn't say anything rude about the systems, but yes, he acted as a fanboy, the way he commented about sony fans and the way he defended the wii, which does happen to have the ngc chip.
"35. @Noshino

This is quit amusing! I never met so many people that argue about games/systems. I just want to play some good games. I personally don't care which system is better. I admit, I don't like Sony as a company. I don't think they give a rip about gamers; it seems that they just want to make money from BR technology. Oh well, Bring on Captain Scott Mitchell in GRAW 2 for the win (in March)....

I lold when at the people that said it looks better then crysis.
If you really think that go get glasses and see if that helps if it dosen't gouge your eyes out with a spork, NOW!!
Seriously if you think it looks crappy you probably saw a Dx 9 shot in a bad looking area. This game the cliff dosent seem to have many polygons the leavs on the tree are horrible looking and it looks like some textures are a bit blurry. I know this game is not done yet and those screens might be old but I mean gears of war still looks better then this.
Some people also said that gears of war would be possible on the ps3. The thing is it is but there would not be as seemless loading time it would actually have to take time to load. It's coming from Epic and they are develpoing for both platforms.
Myke @ Feb 8th 2007 12:23PM
Is this the game that everyone was speculating to be a next-gen version of Pitfall? These screens look awfully familiar.
Vidikron @ Feb 8th 2007 1:52PM
First off, quit comparing this game to Crysis. Seriously, WTF people? Wow... they both have jungle scenes. I'm guess that's as far as the similarities go. FarCry was overrsted anyway. IMO, Crysis will end up being a graphically spectacular yet completely average FPS. But I guess that's a different topic.
Naughty Dog is a great developer and has always managed to squeeze some of the best graphics our of past Sony systems. I really have no reason to expect this to change this generation. I can't wait for this game.
