All right, we don't want to get too big of a head with all this positive PlayStation 3 news, so let's pop our own balloon and take a few slaps to the face from Electronic Arts. Well, it's not necessarily slaps directed right at Sony, but those jerks who bought the PS3 simply to turn around and sell them on eBay.EA VP Frank Gibeau said they were disappointed in the holiday PS3 sales -- game wise. Speaking over the phone (the best way to be honest), Gibeau blamed the poor game sales to the "eBay Effect", observing most early adopters bought the console simply to sell it at a higher price. Over January, the game/console tie-in ratio increased, he noted.
Can this be generalized a bit further and point some of the falterings of the PS3 on these scalpers? A low tie-in ratio for a new console is very dissuading for exclusive developers and causes others to either jump ship completely or eventually move onto a more popular console, porting over games later on. Leave your thoughts on the consequences felt by Sony and game developers resulting from this "eBay Effect".
